About the property

River front 4 bedroom home ready for you, your family & friends! 2 Adult Kayaks

Welcome to our little slice of waterfront paradise nestled along the Rappahannock River, at the mouth of Piscataway Creek. Lands End Lodge is one of thirteen homes located in the area known to locals as Island Farm, each one with their own unique history and character. This “off the beaten path” get-away is sure to become a place where fond memories are made. Come enjoy “Rivah” life at its finest; if peace and quiet and total relaxation is what you crave, this is the place for you!

Life here is as laid back as it gets. Nap in the hammock, shaded by the mature maple trees. Take a provided beach chair out to the private pier and watch the osprey in their nest or simply take in the daily beauty of the Rivah. Old and young alike can cool off in the shallow waters just steps away. Relax and read on the front porch swing. Just imagine waking up in the master bedroom and walking out on the balcony to witness a perfect sunrise.

Lands End Lodge comfortably sleeps 12 on two levels which makes it the perfect choice for a family vacation or reunion or gathering of friends. The first floor bedroom and adjoining full bathroom is ideal for someone who may be challenged by stairs. The second floor has three bedrooms, including the master and two full bathrooms. TV’s are available in the living room (65 in with surround sound and Blu-ray player),as well as two of the bedrooms. This home was recently updated with brand new kitchen items (Pampered Chef cookware, glassware, flatware and dinnerware) as well as new bedding, sheets, and towels. In addition, the home boasts 11 ceiling fans! Other amenities include a gas grill, picnic table, fire pit with complimentary wood, 12 adirondack chairs, beach chairs, full size hammock and a chair swing. 2 Adult Kayaks! House freshly painted in March 2018.

At the Lodge, there is room for everyone to do what they like. Perhaps the cozy reading corner is where you will find yourself curled up in the comfy chair with the latest novel while you have unobstructed views of the Rivah. Gather with family and friends at the large farmhouse table (seating for 8) for a meal prepared in the fully equipped kitchen or maybe a card game at the smaller table in the breakfast nook with the skylights above is what will bring everyone together for some times of fun and laughter.

It’s only a short drive into town to partake of any of the local restaurants – Burgers, Italian, Mexican or Seafood – or to do your grocery shopping. Check out the lovely gift stores and antique shops. Take in Washington D.C. sights just 100 miles away. Play 18 holes at the Hobbs Hole Golf Course; drive an hour north up to historic Fredericksburg or George Washington’s birthplace; an hour and a half south you’ll find yourself in Williamsburg. Richmond is an hour to the west. Two theme parks, Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens are also easily accessible. This area is home to several wineries.

About Craig & Jeannie Harvey

Craig and Jeannie were both born in the D.C. area. Craig grew up in Virginia Beach and Jeannie in Maryland. Both of us have wonderful memories of times with friends and family vacationing where water views were plentiful. Craig's sister and brother both bought their retirement homes here in Tappahannock. After spending most of the summer of 2016 with them, we were convinced we also wanted a property here that we could enjoy, as well as offer to others via VRBO. When we are not in Virginia, we call Bradenton, Florida our home. We both love to travel. Craig loves reading and Jeannie dabbles in photography.

Why Craig & Jeannie Harvey chose Tappahannock

We know that folks have endless choices when it comes to a vacation and choosing a place to stay that will offer lasting memories for family and friends. Certainly there are many options along the East coast that have all the bells and whistles - but sometimes that also means all the traffic, congestion and commercialism. We trust Lands End Lodge can serve as an alternative for some. If you are looking for a place to relax to the max, with the charm of a cozy cabin-type feel, then we hope our little slice of paradise might fit the bill for you.

What makes this house unique

In our opinion, the views are the best that can be offered. Where else can you witness a sunrise from the front of the house, and then sunset across the field in the backyard? We plan to enjoy this home ourselves at times throughout the year, and so we have put the little touches into convenience and decorating that we hope others will be able to appreciate as well during their stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved the location, and the views were unparalleled. The host has great fold out chairs for lolling on the yard. The beds are clean and comfortable and plentiful. The house cozy and warm. Our first time at Tappahannock was lovely!

Wonderfully relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We stayed the week the week of August 4th. The weather was perfect, we could not have paid for better weather. Everything in the house was clean, comfortable and inviting. As a family who enjoys cooking, we were pleased to find a well appointed kitchen. Truly we could not have asked for more than this house provided. We are all truly grateful that we were able to use this property and plan to return next summer. Many thanks to the Harvey’s for providing a little slice of heaven for a family that needed some relaxation!

A well-prepared getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Had a good time at Lands End Lodge. The adults enjoyed the amenities and the kids enjoyed the shallow water. The house was provisioned with everything you might want for cooking and dining, and everyone had enough space to relax. Glad to have found it for the week celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary with 4 generations attending!

Lands End Lodge lives up to its name

  • 4 of 5

Property is very private. Other than the first weekend, we were the only folks present in the community. Great location. 45 minutes to Williamsburg; 20 minutes to Stratford Hall and Colonial Beach. My grandchildren enjoyed seeing osprey, deer, 2 foxes, and numerous turtles. Master suite is beyond spacious; my daughter and son-in-law were vocal in the comfort and size. The grandchildren enjoyed the other 2 upstairs bedrooms. Kitchen was well stocked and had a great floorplan. 2 suggestions for the owner. 1. Add directions to the welcome packet; the road is private and does not show up on GPS. It took several calls to the local rep to get final driving instructions. 2. Consider upgrading the first floor bedding. The mattress and box spring show their age. Otherwise, the property was as advertised. Security deposit promptly returned via direct deposit. Would recommend the property if asked.

The house was beautiful, could not ask for a more perfect house to stay at.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived the property was like home. It was completely ready and stocked for our enjoyment. The kayaks were great for our tenangers to play on. We loved the fire pit and roasted marshmallows by the water. The house had everything we could ask for plus more. Extra pillows and blankets, plenty of towels, dishes, glasses and pots and pans for our meals. The bedrooms were perfect for our families and the top balcony was beautiful looking over the water. You will not be disappointed with this property. Thank you for allowing our family to stay together and enjoy each other’s company. Will defiantly be back. Until next time, be safe.

Clean and cozy with beautiful view of sunrise over the water

  • 5 of 5

This property was ideal for our group of 10 women as it has 3 full baths. Another reason we picked this home was the absence of bunk beds. Most properties that sleep this many people include at least one set. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and dishes. We were impressed with how clean the house was. The setting is beautiful. Unfortunately it was a little cold to take advantage of most of the outdoor amenities. We will definitely consider this home again next year.

Tappahannock, located on the Rappahannock River, is the county seat and the oldest town in Essex County, Virginia, United States. It is older than Richmond, Fredericksburg and even Williamsburg. Captain John Smith landed here in 1608 but was driven back to his ship by the local Indians. Tappahannock is derived from an Indian name meaning “on the rise and fall of water.”
