Located on a Chianti Rufina vineyard with fabulous views in peaceful Tuscany
- English, Italian
I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of places to visit and eat throughout Tuscany. We are happy to share our knowledge with you and help you get the most out your holiday in this part of Italy. Can we offer you a glass of wine, spread out the map of Tuscany and help you draw up your itinerary?
Jane purchased this Bungalow in 2005
Why Jane chose Pelago
Borgo di Sopra is a fabulous mix. You truly feel away from it all, in the midst of a nature in a place of enormous beauty. There is lots of wildlife here, from deer to pheasants, hares, porcupines and all sorts of birdlife. Our apartments all look out onto the vineyards of the Castello di Nipozzano. These are cared for almost like a garden. It is wondeful to watch the passage of the seasons across them. Yet, if you get in your car and drive our bumpy stone road and then the leafy country lane, in 6 minutes you find yourself in the bustling town of Pontassieve. Restaurants and shops, banks and the train station - it all feels a world away from our Borgo and yet it is so close.
What makes this Bungalow unique
At Borgo you can walk uphill to the lovely Castello di Nipozzano. There has been a castle here since 1000, and you can understand why. The position dominates the surrounding countryside. But there is also a handsome Villa from the 1700s. Its low key aristocratic elegance, charms and intrigues you into wandering into the wine store, perhaps even into booking a tasting. It is worth it. The wines are impressive and the laid back, welcoming style is uniquely Tuscan.

Amazing time in Tuscany country!
My wife and I booked this amazing property for our first visit to Europe. It was fantastic! Beautiful landscapes of the Tuscany country side, easy access to all the major cities surrounding and Italian hospitality.
Perfect Tuscan holiday
We stayed in the ‘Vista’ property.
The first thing to say straight away, is that the hosts Jane and Giampiero are really welcoming and helpful. Jane’s communication with guests is exceptional and should not be underestimated. We made some alterations to our plans and Jane dealt with them with ease.
Good communication really became important on our arrival day. We took a flight which landed in the evening and we knew we would be arriving at the property fairly late. Due to flight delays and chaos at the car rental office, we set off from Florence airport much later than planned. We maintained contact with Jane and followed her (brilliant) directions to the house without any problems, but arrived very late and very tired. Jane met us and gave us a quick run through of everything. We had also taken advantage of Jane’s offer of getting groceries for us and we are so glad we did. It was Sunday the following day, we had plans and we knew we wouldn’t be able to get anything. If you are on a late or Sunday flight I would absolutely recommend you take up Jane’s offer!
We were due to go to the Moto GP the following morning at Mugello and had to take an early train. Jane very kindly offered to meet us early the next morning and show us to the station and where to park our car. She also helped getting the tickets. This was really helpful because we were still only just finding our feet from the night before!
Vista is a lovely property. We are fully in agreement with all the previous reviews about the views and the relaxing location. Simply stunning. We specifically chose Vista because it has a ‘full’ kitchen. We like to cook and it has everything you need. We had anticipated the rural position and the fact that in most cases you will need your car to visit restaurants etc. so we chose to eat lunch out using the car during the day and then prepare and eat dinner at home in the evening. We could enjoy a few glasses of delicious wine, sitting on the terrace, without worrying about driving. This is worth considering (unless you don’t drink of course!).
The property was spotlessly clean and the bed (which is huge), bed linen and towels are very good quality. Everything you need is in there, including a selection of wines from the local winery, which are available to buy (they are really good too).
Jasmine the dog and Peggy the cat are really friendly and funny and gave us a lot of entertainment!
Our accommodations were perfect with every little detail taken care of. The view over the vineyards and location of the property made for a restful and relaxing holiday. Our hosts were very gracious, helpful, kind and eager to help with advice, reservations or whatever we needed. We felt very much at home and the stay exceeded our expectations. Jane's suggestions for restaurants, walks, sightseeing, ice cream, supermarkets etc. were spot on. Thanks again for a lovely stay.
I am so glad you had the restful holiday with country walks that you were seeking. It was a great pleasure to welcome you here. Jasmine the dog, loved being spoilt by you too!
Lovely stay in the Tuscan countryside
Simple, but comfortable accommodation only a short drive from the nearest town of Pontassieve , with excellent rail links to Florence and Arezzo.
Very helpful and friendly owners who live on site and who will willingly help with directions, booking tickets and even shopping for supplies before you arrive. They couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Thank you.
Peaceful haven just outside Florence! Busy days in city and peaceful nights in the country with wonderful hosts Jane and Gianpiero! Would love to return!
An easy 5 star
A beautiful place to relax in the countryside of Tuscany, or use as a base camp as we did. It’s located just outside of Florence with easy rail access. Be warned, you will need a car. And you will need to follow the host instructions to the letter. Google will fail you with a false route. Our host were very knowledgeable, and provided a lot of useful information about our planned excursions. We stayed at “The Vista” which has an amazing view across the vineyards and valley below. The road is a dead end, so the only traffic will be from the host and people staying there. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who has severe mobility issues, there is a step over at the threshold, and a hill. Our host were great, providing us with fresh fruits and vegetables from their own trees and plants during our stay. And welcome advise on local food selections. Utilize the knowledge of the host to make the best of your day trips. Don’t just wing it, especially if you haven’t made a specific plan. They’re combined knowledge spreads well beyond the local area. There is an additional fee for excessive use of electricity. But this shouldn’t be an issue with anyone, except those that run the AC 24/7. The host are wonderful, and the location is well worth the cost. We plan to visit again in the future, and can’t wait to return to this great location.
David & Leigh
Dear Leigh and David, Thank you so much for your informative review. Your first hand advice on the value of pre-holiday research is spot-on. Hopefully we can help if guests need additional information or recommendations once they are here. We hope to see you again, Jane
The 2 main airports in Tuscany (Pisa and Florence) are easily accessible . Short breaks are feasible all year round! You'll know you have made an escape from routine, though, when you drive down the winding approach road. You pass through vineyards with a historic castle and our property above you in the distance. You are now in the Nipozzano estate of the noble Florentine family of Frescobaldi. From your apartment, a pleasant walk, with superb views, will take you up to the castle. There the wine is aged in the historic cellars and you can taste and buy all Frescobaldi wines. Numerous other panoramic walks dot the area (the historic monastery of Vallombrosa is not far either). For renaissance culture, we are near Florence and Arezzo. Regular trains from Pontassieve station (5 minutes away) to central Florence take only 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, designer outlet discounts from Gucci, YSL, Todds etc are to be found at the Mall, outside Leccio, 15 minutes away.
Other Activities: Wine tasting.
