Alba is a well-equipped holiday apartment for two people. Furnished in a fresh but traditional style, it consists of a kitchen-living area, bedroom and bathroom. The furnishing and walls are in natural, modern style. This is a really special apartment with extensive outside space for private use. Not only is there a convenient deck terrace outside the kitchen but also a garden with south facing panoramic terrace. The kitchen-living area has four ring gas hob, hood, electric oven, large fridge and dishwasher. There is a comfortable sofa. The bedroom is light and airy with a large wardrobe and a traditional barn window with beautiful views. The bathroom is contemporary with designer fittings and Italian stone tiles and has a shower unit and separate bathtub. The pretty window above the bathtub looks onto olive trees and distant hills.
Escape into rustic Chianti Rufina and enjoy the timeless pleasures of Tuscany - less than 30 minutes from Florence!
This small group of buildings was once part of the first line of defences of Renaissance Florence. Now on a working vineyard, they have been converted to create an attractive villa and apartments. Situated in a prestigious Florentine estate which produces an impressive Chianti, there is a panoramic hilltop castle within walking distance. Florence is an easy train ride away, saving the headache of city parking. For 2 people, you can choose between Cipresso, a mini apartment with kitchenette, or Alba and Vista, which both have full kitchens and separate bedroom. If you are travelling in a group of up to 4, select the tab for Villa, the converted barn with two spacious panoramic terraces, two double bedrooms and bathrooms. For larger groups, up to 7, select Antica & Cipresso. Alternatively, groups of up to 13 can rent the whole Borgo. All apartments have their own private terrace with views across the valley.
Approach Road: Please note that there is a 1km rough, farm road to approach the property. The surface of the road is in loose stone and not tarmac. Most of our guests arrive in small hire cars without problems. Ask us for more information if you are concerned.
I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of places to visit and eat throughout Tuscany. We are happy to share our knowledge with you and help you get the most out your holiday in this part of Italy. Can we offer you a glass of wine, spread out the map of Tuscany and help you draw up your itinerary?
Jane purchased this barn in 2005
Borgo di Sopra is a fabulous mix.
You truly feel away from it all, in the midst of a nature in a place of enormous beauty. There is lots of wildlife here, from deer to pheasants, hares, porcupines and all sorts of birdlife. Our apartments all look out onto the vineyards of the Castello di Nipozzano. These are cared for almost like a garden. It is wondeful to watch the passage of the seasons from winter when the vines are bare to summer when a tractor in the vineyard looks like a small boat on an ocean of green, to the autumn when the leaves turn gold. At the end of the day, everyday, the light softens and intensifies ........and it is always beautiful.
Yet, if you get in your car and drive our bumpy stone road and then the leafy country lane, in 6 minutes you find yourself in the bustling town of Pontassieve. Restaurants and shops, banks and the train station - it all feels a world away from our Borgo and yet it is so close.
At Borgo you can walk uphill to the lovely Castello di Nipozzano. There has been a castle here since 1000, and you can understand why. The position dominates the surrounding countryside. But there is also a handsome Villa from the 1700s. Its nonchalant aristocratic elegance, charms and intrigues you into wandering into the wine store, perhaps even into booking a tasting. It is worth it. The wines are impressive and the laid back, welcoming style is uniquely Tuscan.
All rates include bed and bath linens and final cleaning.
Air conditioning is available in this apartment. When opting to use aircon, electricity consumption is payable according to start/end meter readings applying the electricity supplier's own rates.
A 40% deposit is required to secure a booking, with the balance payable on or before arrival.
Great hosts, made to feel very welcome, peaceful relaxing location. Great connections from the local town into Florence by rail, very cheap too (7 euros return). Inside facilities excellent, good shower! Pleasant patio too with great views across the valley. Pisa was the best airport to fly into and easy to find the route out as well as on the return back a week later. Good base for visiting other towns as well. Cheap and easy to find parking at Sienna by the railway station (2 euros all day) with a bus from the station up to the town centre from there too. Maybe more stunning than the photo suggests opposite. Sure we will return again to use as a base.
Our accommodation was called Alba, which is a fully furnished flat, for a week, during the first week of October 2016. Fully heated with Air Conditioning (if required). Starting in the bedroom-at the back/side of the flat. . There was a large wardrobe, with lots of hanging space, double bed, and radiators, and additional bedding/pillows if required. The window at the end of the bed overlooked the vineyard, but the view was hampered by the bricks... not a problem. Fully fitted bathroom, with bath, shower, sink and toilet. Then up a step into the lounge/kitchen, which
has been furnished with TV, Settee, Bookcase, Fridge/freezer, Sink, Oven and Wi-fi. There is a patio outside, with a table and chairs and parasol is available. There are fresh herbs in the garden, with olive trees. A washing machine is available, along with an iron and ironing board.
We could not have asked for better hosts - Jane & Giampero know the area . There is a booklet/guide to the accommodation which also recommends various restaurants....for whatever type of food you fancy.
We walked round Pontassieve / Pelago which was most enjoyable.
As we were on a driving holiday we had a couple of days when we went to Pisa and Florence by train.
We drove to the station parked the car and then caught the train. It was fairly easy and cheap to buy tickets.
(The one drawback, is that the flat is quite a way out of town, so we could not walk into town have a meal and then walk back.)
The Alba was very clean and well maintained. Yes, I would go back and would gladly recommend it to a friend.
We were late arriving so Jane emailed us a shopping list, which we sent back with our requirements. Our shopping was waiting for us when we arrived.
My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay at Borgo di Sopra and would recommend this property to anyone.
The 16th century barn conversion has been completed by Jane & her husband Giampiero to a very high standard and the apartment has all mod cons whilst retaining it's Tuscan character & charm.
The apartments are ideally placed if you want to explore Tuscany we visited Florence, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano during our stay and enjoyed returning each evening to the to Borgo di Sopra to enjoy the stunning views across the hillside and the tranquility of the surroundings. The only noise that will awaken you in the morning is that of birdsong or the red squirrels harvesting walnuts from the surrounding trees.
If you want a taste of Tuscany you will not find a more beautiful or comfortable place to do so. Jane & Giampiero are very welcoming and thoughtful hosts without being at all intrusive.
We were both very sad to depart and hope to return one day !
Jane, the owner, was extremely helpful in planning our stay the weeks before our holiday, even down to precise instructions on how to manage an Italian supermarket! Her details to get to the property were excellent and her welcome on arrival was great after many hours of travelling.
The property is in a stunning location and is equipped to a high standard with quality furnishings and fittings. There is air conditioning, wi fi, TV..... all the modern day essentials. The property is private - one of 4 - and yet there is no need to socialise unless you wish to.
Florence is 30 minutes away by train and very easy to access. Jane leaves a book of suggested places to visit and to eat. She booked a great restaurant for us on the top of a high hill - great!
We would recommend a stay here without any reservation.
There's always that slight "sight unseen" trepidation when renting a place you've seen only in pictures -- even if the pictures make it look really good. The payoff at Borgo is that everything about it so surpassed our imagination. The drive up and down a road that winds around a noble hillside vineyard is breathtaking. Then you arrive to find an oasis of comfort and mix of old and new world charm. Jane and GIampiero are not only gracious, welcoming and eager to please -- they're incredibly friendly and interesting people to get to know.We started out in the smaller Cipresso apartment, which was nice enough. But we quickly decided we wanted more privacy and view. Jane kindly accommodated our request, and we were beyond delighted with Alba, which offered spectacular views and a private deck. Grounds are beautiful; the apartment was spotlessly clean with Italian tile floors white walls and high, exposed wood beam ceilings. Nice furnishings -- appropriately country -- a comfortable bed w/ nice linens, quality fixtures in a spacious bathroom and high-end appliances in the kitchen. It was a place not only to come home to -- but to feel at home in. If you go in September, know that you'll become addicted to the fresh figs you can pick off a tree that spreads its branches, heavv with ripe fruit, over the yard about twenty steps away. Jane and Giampiero heartily encouraged us to enjoy the figs to our heart's content and we did -- with bread and cheese for breakfast, with prosciutto and wine for a light early evening snack. Grounds are also planted with rosemary and sage bushes. Lovely. Florence is a short and easy drive -- but an even easier train ride (recommended) from Pontassieve. There are, of course, many other areas of interest within driving distance. We so enjoyed our stay here and getting to know la famiglia. For these reasons and more, we give Borgo our highest recommendation!
I live in Hawaii so it takes a lot to impress me. And Borgo di Sopra does just that in every way. This is my second stay in 3 years and I will be back again. This trip I brought 7 smart, professional women with discriminating tastes and I was not sure how they would like the rural setting. Every one of us had a wonderful time and are already scheming how to get back to this wonderful place again.
The setting is beautiful. My friend opened the window in her bedroom overlooking the vineyards and hills and after 6 day traveling in other parts of Italy she said, "This is what Italy is supposed to look like!"
The units are all well maintained with historic touches and modern comforts. The beds are all very comfortable. The grounds are serene and inviting for hiking. And the family who lives on site is most accommodating. They will leave you your privacy if you want it. We wanted to get to know them better so we did socialize some. You could not ask for better hosts. They gave many good suggestions, help me in town when we got a flat tire and saved me with a small medical problem. If you like good Chianti have Jane arrange a tour of Frescobaldi winery up the hill. If you like white, try the delicious Pomino wine they offer. And if you are really lucky like we were, you might have a chance to arrange a cooking class and dinner with Antonella. So much fun and So delicious.
In 20 minute you can be in the center of Florence with all it has to offer. Or base yourself here for may day trips in the area. My only regret, is if the word gets out, Borgo will be too booked to stay again. Jane and Gianpiero are very special hosts.
The 2 main airports in Tuscany (Pisa and Florence) are easily accessible . Short breaks are feasible all year round! You'll know you have made an escape from routine, though, when you drive down the winding approach road. You pass through vineyards with a historic castle and our property above you in the distance. You are now in the Nipozzano estate of the noble Florentine family of Frescobaldi. From your apartment, a pleasant walk, with superb views, will take you up to the castle. There the wine is aged in the historic cellars and you can taste and buy all Frescobaldi wines. Numerous other panoramic walks dot the area (the historic monastery of Vallombrosa is not far either). For renaissance culture, we are near Florence and Arezzo. Regular trains from Pontassieve station (5 minutes away) to central Florence take only 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, designer outlet discounts from Gucci, YSL, Todds etc are to be found at the Mall, outside Leccio, 15 minutes away.
Other Activities: Wine tasting.
