THE PERFECT BASE TO EXPLORE EDEN VALLEY AND BEYOND.

Our Homestead and three cottages provide totally private escapes that merge the beauty of stone with all the contemporary amenities and touches to make your stay remarkable.
The Kuchel family built our homestead and outbuildings in the 1860s and weve renovated it and added new rooms. Weve rebuilt the old Kuchel stone dairy to create two adjoining, fully self-contained cottages.

Weve also restored a very old stone building to create The Stables, the ultimate in pampering, with generous proportions, a private garden, cathedral skylights, luxury spa and cosy wood combustion fire.

Each is beautifully appointed with a blend of new and antique furniture, polished timber floors, textural stone and mini orb ceilings for added warmth and charm. All feature private parking and outdoor areas with heaters and BBQs. In short, everything you need to (big deep breath in and out ) really relax.

SUNSET COTTAGE (2 bedroom, 85m2) From $220/night.

Created from the old 1860 stone dairy, the two-bedroom Sunset Cottage features open plan living, dining and kitchen areas with French doors that open out into a paved outdoor entertaining area with tranquil country views.
With warm timber floors, antique and contemporary furniture, modern amenities and a full kitchen, its designed for your absolute comfort and privacy.
The bedrooms are at opposite ends of the cottage with each opening out via French doors to private landscaped gardens.

Amenities also include:
- 2 x Queen beds with 1000 thread sun-dried cotton sheets
- En suite and full sized bathroom with 2 person bath and deluxe towels
- Full kitchen with granite bench tops, freestanding oven, family sized refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave
- Air conditioning
- 3 x flat screen TVs
- BBQ area
- Private off-street parking for two vehicles.

Quote. Thank you for the wonderful stay at 1860. What an amazing property. Honestly we felt so relaxed and into holiday mode within hours of arriving. So peaceful sitting on the verandah. Debbie.

Quote. I would just like to say thank you for providing us with excellent accommodation. The cottages are exceptional and the little touches such as the fantastic breakfast, wine, port and chocolates were very nice. I hope we can come back and do it again some time. Jeb.

Quote. Thank you so much for your hospitality and for letting us stay at your beautiful cottages. We had a ball and wish we could have stayed longer... Sally and Kieran (and families).

There is so much to see and do in Eden Valley

There is so much to see and do in Eden Valley.

Our Wine & Dine Trails.
It was a tough task, but we thought someone should do it! So, through much trial and error, great hardships and long days tastings, weve compiled what we believe are the most distinctive wine and food experiences the Eden Valley and surrounds have to offer.

Our three local wine and food trails will take you through a combination of Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills boutique wineries, plus recommend places to eat and experience some very special local produce.

These are the unique wine experiences we prefer, and you wont find most of these wines in your local bottle shops.

To get on the trail, check the booklet in your cottage.

A taste of what to expect.
1860 Wine Country Cottages are in a special part of the world. Were just an hour from Adelaide, half an hour from the delights of the Barossa Valley, close to the unique historic towns of the Adelaide Hills and near to the stunning scenery offered up by the mighty Murray. Plus, theres also a thriving local Eden Valley wine industry to explore.

Heres a quick snapshot of whats on offer within a short distance from your stone cottage escape:

Eden Valley local wineries:

- Suffield Wines
- Partalunga Vineyard
- Edenmae Wines
- Baker Creek Vineyard
- Irvine Wines
- Fernfield Wines
- Glenerron Wines
- Henschke Wines
- Taste of Eden (tastings of boutique Eden Valley wines, particularly our famous rieslings)
- Yalumba
- Sorby Adams
- Thorn Clarke Cellar Door

Local attractions:

The Herbig tree. The first Australian home of Friedrich Herbig, who married his wife Caroline in 1858, and lived in this tree home with their first 2 children.

Local craft. Check out the handmade leather store, Rose-Anne Russell, in Springton and Winestains Handcrafts for leather & timber products in Williamstown.
A quick round. If golfs your bag, the Mount Pleasant 18 hole golf course is just 3km away from your cottage.
The 19th Hole. We have 3 pubs, 2 in Mt Pleasant and 1 in Springton if you feel like a refreshing ale, or a counter meal.
The Lookout. Head along the Springton Angaston Road to get a good view of the surrounding countryside. A small 4km return trip hillside walk starts from the Lookout if you feel like some fresh air.
Window-shopping. Head to Angaston (about 20 mins drive) for historic buildings, hip café culture, cheese makers, wine bars and lots of shops to peruse.
Take a walk. Discover the Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park nestled in the hills between Tanunda and Angaston. It provides two walking trails first the Stringybark loop for a taste of the parks natural landscape (2.5km) and Wallowa Hike (4.7km), for views of impressive outcrops and panorama of the ranges.
Spin your wheels. The approx. 900km long Mawson trail is known as South Australias pinnacle cross country mountain bike track. It winds through the Adelaide Hills, Eden and Barossa Valleys and runs close by 1860 Wine Country Cottages.

Beautiful little cottage
This little cottage is so beautiful in a picturesque location and very calming environment. My girlfriends and I had a delightful stay and would recommend 1860 cottages to others! It was beautifully kept and we were welcomed by the owners on arrival.
