This penthouse on the popular beach complex of Las Gavilanes has 3 bedrooms, dual air conditioner, a very large terrace that looks out to the Atlantic ocean and Portugal, where you can watch the sun set. The apartment has secure parking in an allocated lot, the beach and restaurants are on your door step and a local rep is available in case of emergencies.
We were the first tenants to rent the apartment after Lee, the owner bought it. The property and location were so good we went back for a second time this year.
The apartment is stunning, very well appointed and fitted out. The views are fantastic, at any time of day. It gets very hot so the airconditioning was vital. As with the other fittings this was clearly a good quality system and easy to use. There are instruction manuals for all the appliances in the apartment.
The fact that the apartment is high up but served by lifts. This means that although you are about 2 minutes from the beach and restaurants it's also nice and quiet.
The complex is great and well maintained, the pool is excellent and the pool area kept very clean and tidy with enough sunbeds to cater for the number wishing to use the pool.
Although there is a bus service to the nearest town Ayamonte we hired a car as we flew into Faro in Portugal then drove down. It takes about 1¼ hours. Ideally you need a car to make the most Isla Canela but the rental, recommended by Lee, was very reasonable and the apartment comes with a secure parking space.
Ayamonte is a lovely little town with a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants, some around the square which is picturesque. It also has an internet cafe so you can get online if you need to. With a car you can also visit various places close to Isla Canela including a number of golf courses and the Marina which is about 1½ miles away but well worth a visit for the restaurants especially Outbacks the Australian restaurant.
There is a choice of supermarkets not far away but you need a car and a smaller one which is a five minute walk away.
Lee, could not be more helpful and attentive. We have rented apartments in the Spanish Islands on numerous occasions and never found a better owner. We felt that weekly rental price was fair and reasonable for the standard of accommodation.
I would recommend the local fish restaurant Espuma Del Mar which is less than 5 minutes walk away. If you like seafood you won't find better and it is reasonably priced.

After playing golf at Isla Canela G.C one of the most under-rated golf courses in the region where much work has been undertaken and the greens improved immensely, infact they now rival the much fancied championship courses in Portugal, we decided to stroll along the long beautiful sandy beach. Before long we had a superb collection of sea-shells ranging from the tiny coquineas which are highly prized by the local fishermen to large conch shapes. There must have been a large shoal of fish near to shore as the local fishing fleet were out in force.
That evening we decided to to pop across the road for a Chinese on the beach. Peking Duck was our first choice. If they awarded stars for Chinese restaurants then this one would have five stars plus.
After leaving the restaurant we went back to enjoy a glass of rioja on our large terrace. The sky was steaked as if half a dozen jets had honoured us with a fly past. The sun was low on the horizon when suddenly it just dropped out of the sky. It left behind a beautiful red glow against the vapour trail wisps way up in the sky.
This apartment has an amazing terrace with views over the beach,over Portugal, as well as the Spanish hills to the north. Never would we tire of these views.
Each day of our holiday was exciting, interesting, different and above all relaxing.

We wanted a quick break holiday during the September with our 9 year old daugther and her friend.Having stayed in Isla Canela previously we wanted to go back, we looked at returning to the hotel we had previously stayed at but the cost was increased so much that it was out of the question.
I then found this Penthouse Apartment, the pictures and details looked great so off we went. It was perfect, the kids
loved the Balcony its huge and has fantastic views, We had most of our meals out there.
The accomadation, is perfect very clean and furnished to a very good standard. The kids had their own room, so they were happy. The kids loved the independance of the apartment they, because were able to go to the pool on their own we could sit on the balcony and relax. The beach is just outside the gate to the complex, with a good choice of restuarants and shops. We would highly recommend this apartment for all ages you will not be disappointed, we will be going back very soon. Go and really enjoy yourself, with complete piece of mind
Me gustaría comentar mi estancia en este apartamento.
Situación de la propiedad y el apartamento como tal es extraordinario. Igual que en la descripción. A este respecto muy contentos, una nota de 5 estrellas, sin duda.
Nota negativa. Cuando llegamos el aire acondicionado del apartamento estaba roto. Avisamos a las personas que gestionan la propiedad y lo comprobaron. Buenas palabras...... y el día que nos fuimos, 14 de julio, seguía estropeado.
La televisión, no funciona. No sé si es problema de señal o del aparato , pero la televisión no se ve. Lo mismo, buenas palabras, buena disposición para solucionar el problema, pero nos fuimos y todavía la TV no funcionaba.
Hablamos con las personas de llevan la propiedad y les comentamos que ya que habíamos pagado, y no es barato, un apartamento con unas características determinadas, que incluían TV y aire acondicionado, y éstos no funcionaban, entendíamos razonable se nos devolviera una pequeña parte del alquiler, algo simbólico, 100 euros. Quedamos que hablarían con el propietario y que se pondrían en contacto con nosotros, y tres semanas más tarde, nada de nada. No es serio.
Espero que algún día el propietario tenga a bien ponerse en contacto con nosotros y darnos alguna explicación.
