And now for somewhere completeley different…
While retaining its rustic charm, La Cave aux Vins enjoys the amenities of modern living.
The gite is open plan, there are no doors (except the loo!), just character lintels & arches. From the bedroom a step & a door leads to the modern loo & wash basin. The shower is a large walk-in, with a screen door & gleaming thermostatic fittings and tiling.
The rustic cabinets house a modern kitchen comprising a microwave, fridge with frozen food compartment, quality cooker with 4 ring hob, grill, oven & a dishwasher.
A comfy sofa & simple pine table & chairs completes the rustic charm.
A flat screen TV with DVD & CD player enjoys UK satellite TV & radio & French freeview.
A few steps down to the shady terrasse is a table, chairs and bbq ready for those alfresco drinks & meals. Here you are surrounded by old stone walls of a ruin from which we have created the peaceful Mulberry Garden, a place to read, paint, sketch or just relax
Our stone cottages are perfect for couples wanting a quiet holiday with a luxury pool and comfortable facilities.
Conveniently situated for Avignon, Nimes, Arles, and Uzes. With the Cevennes and its hills and valleys close by, we are perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists, & there is horse riding in the vicinity.
There are colourful markets in Barjac, Les Vans & St Ambroix all within easy reach. Uzes market is particularly colourful and even has its own web site.
The Ardeche Gorges are 20 minutes drive away and great for canoeing, kayaking or just sightseeing.
A beautiful part of France!
Though our cottages are part of one ancient stone building, they are at different levels and aspects and are all different, having the ambience of an ancient stone hamlet.
There is a lovely courtyard separating our house from the accommodation and even a small spring running by the buildings.
Share our Mediterranean garden and our luxury salt system 13.7 metre pool with its poolside bar.
Pool Area.: The luxury pool is set in a sunny Mediterranean garden of oleander, olive trees and native herbs & flowers. Dimensions are 13.7 metres (about 45 feet) by 5.5 metres and it has Roman Steps descending into the shallow end. There is a gentle gradient from 1.2 metres at the shallow end to a deeper area of about 1.5 metres. The pool has a salt water system which is both kind to the skin and repulsive to wasps & other unwelcome guests. We have installed a heat-pump system which provides warm water in an efficient eco-friendly way.
Our sun loungers are textyline, a special fabric designed for pool use. Our chairs have a similar fabric, especially for your comfort between dips.
Our pool-side bar carries welcome cold beers, chilled rosé from the village cave co-operative, & soft drinks.
Mediterranean Garden.: Our garden is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers native to the environment and climate of Southern France. You will enjoy the scent of lavender, rosemary and other herbs around the garden and the colourful Laurier Rose or Oleander planted near the pool. Jasmine and honeysuckle are everywhere!
In the garden we have staged a picnic area with rustic table beneath the cherry trees. For relaxing among the olive trees moments there is a 'Ballancelle'. For those bursts of activity we have created a boulodrome and even installed lighting if you fancy a lazy evening game.
Our 'espace Wi-Fi' by the fish pond is a comfortable place for you to connect to the internet.
Places to Visit in The Area: The Ardeche Gorges are a 20 minute drive away. The road that winds along the top of the Gorge from the famous Vallon Pont D'Arc has many stopping places from which to enjoy the spectacular views. At Vallon there are many hire centres where canoes and two seater kayaks can be paddled along the river through the gorges. A truly magnificent experience.
Uzes is a medieval town with many attractions and a maze of alleys and narrow streets to explore. The famous tree lined Place Aux Herbes is host to a colourful and fascinating Provencal market.
Avignon and the Palais des Papes is an easy drive away as are the ancient Nimes & Arles with their Roman remains.
Visit the Pont du Gard to see the remains of the Roman aquaduct, which is a World Heritage Site, or experience one of the spectacles held there in June.
Nearby, the Cevennes is a place of wild beauty, with ancient chapels in stone villages tucked in among the forested hills and valleys. This region is a hikers paradise.
Following a teenage hitch-hiking trip round France some (OK, many!) years ago, I vowed I would return to the Ardèche!
I finally made it...hope you will love it too!
Phil North purchased this cottage in 2007
Well, of course the location is perfect for a visit to the region, and we also enjoy the benefits of the village...the friendly village baker is across the road. There are trails to hike and run from the gate. And we were seduced by the ancient stone buildings, also great views...did I mention the village wine...?
Our home is a little stone hamlet with a fabulous garden...we love it...and so do our guests, many return every year!
Lovely gite with great facilities, very comfortable and with a nice private patio terrace with a bbq. We really enjoyed the pool and garden. The cottage was very convenient for visiting the gorge Ardeche and for general sightseeing. Would recommend.

A wonderfully charming gite - full of character, clean and comfortable, with every facility. We had perfect hot and sunny weather, but didn't need the air conditioning on as the thick historic stone walls keep the gite cool enough for a great night's sleep. Ah, the diners we had in our secluded spot by the mulberry tree outside, washed down with delicious wine grown in the surrounding vineyards! There's so much to do in the area, and Phil and Tina are always ready to offer interesting new suggestions - although some days it was nice just to chill by the pool... Downsides? Hard to think of any really. This was our third time staying in the Cave aux Vins, and hopefully we'll be back for more!
Jederzeit empfehlenswert....
This is the third time we have stayed at Le Mas de La Source and it is just as good now as when it was new. Our "hosts", Phil and Tina North, do everything to make you feel at home, ensuring your holiday is total R&R. More like a self-catering 5* hotel, the quality of the entire property is unsurpassed. It is spotlessly clean, the bed linen pristine, and there is a "starter" pack for when you arrive. The pool is idyllic. However, we are wary of recommending it too highly in case there are no vacancies when we come to return - as we most certainly will, year on year!
We stayed for two weeks in the Cave aux Vins cottage during August and would thoroughly recommend it. The cottage was cosy and clean and had all facilities we needed, as we barbecued most nights on our gorgeous private little terrace area. We liked the fact each cottage was quiet and private but a boules area in the garden made getting to know our neighbours easy, should that be your thing. Phil and Tina were friendly hosts and were helpful in recommending local walks and towns to visit. The pool area was beautiful and peaceful with a very handy honesty bar policy! The village had a lovely boulangerie and a restaurant/bar for al fresco dining, but you definitely need a car to explore the local area and if you want to have more choice for dining, we would recommend the lovely town of Barjac, a 10 minute drive away with a large selection of restaurants. But do not rely on the Barjac taxi rank, it had closed early on the night we needed to get one- book in advance! Beautiful area and a lovely location, we hope to return to Le Mas de la Source one day.
Stunning house with a gorgeous garden in a picture-postcard pretty French village. We just loved it. The gite had everything we needed, and accommodated a baby comfortably in a little side room. The cave is also cool in summer -- a real bonus.
Enjoy the warmth and sunshine of Southern France, relax by our large pool and canoe or kayak the famous Gorges de l'Ardeche. Stay in one of our comfortable, character gites and you are well placed to enjoy a very special holiday. The Gorges de l'Ardeche are an easy 30 minute drive, Avignon and the Palais des Papes is nearby. The area enjoys many other interesting attractions and colourful markets.
Our village, Saint-Sauveur-de-Cruzieres has many old stone buildings and a small river flowing through its heart. Across the road from our Mas and gites is the boulangerie and we are a few steps from two bar - restaurants. We overlook the countryside with its vineyards and olive groves and dramatic hills in the near distance. Our climate is Mediterranean and we enjoy plenty of sunshine.
Our stone buildings resemble an old hamlet and are centred round its courtyards and a small spring that flows through the property, our colourful garden has lavender, olives, thyme, rosemary and the spectacular Oleander.
It would take many visits to see all the local attractions. There are grottos and caves to explore, plenty of castles and medieval villages and towns with their colourful markets to choose from.
The area is very popular with walkers & cyclists.
The Cevennes are a short drive away. Here, serious hikers can face challenging trails through the rugged and dramatic scenery.
The rivers Ardeche, Ceze, and Chassezac all have gorges to visit, swim or canoe through.
Other Activities: Canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, sightseeing, visiting markets & just relaxing!
