Overview

About the property

First things first; there is so much to do, see and experience here that you best plan to stay for a few days. But we also understand the real world doesn't always allow that.

So starting with the house.

The Eyrie caters for it's up to 8 guests very comfortably, but remains wonderfully cosy for just 2. We feature original, local art throughout the house, mostly landscapes of the area, to further enhance the uniqueness of this special place. Every room features spectacular views, even the toilet!

The house is designed with 2 bedroom/bathroom areas. One, with 2 bedrooms (1 Queen bed and 2 Single beds) and on-suite, is off the lounge on the lower level, while the 2nd area is upstairs, again with 2 bedrooms (each with 1 Queen bed this time) and sharing a separate bathroom. Because we cater for from 1-8 people, we ask you only use the bedrooms you need. Check out the floor plan in the photos.

Living areas have split system heating and air-con + the real open fire with the wood box a metre away (more wood in the nearby woodshed). There are 2 lounge seating areas and dining in-between. Flat screen TV and full stereo with phone plug, CD & DVD are there of course. The tasteful kitchen, featuring beautiful blackwood benches and doors, has all the new facilities and equipment you need inc microwave, elec oven, gas cook-top, full fridge/freezer, large dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine, etc.

A fully equipped laundry sees out the in-house facilities. We don't have wifi available as we are too far from the antiquated local exchange, but there is good mobile reception from major telcos, so guests hotspot from their phones for internet.

There are 2 main outdoor areas, the large deck out sea-side has tables, chairs and that view! That view with the land below dropping steeply away over a rock retaining wall into a deep gully and then on out to the sea. The deck is accessed from the lower rooms.

The north facing spacious patio out the back, with the 6 burner BBQ/lid/side burner, picnic table and seats, gets the most sun and enjoys a protected and garden setting. Access is via a garden catwalk from the deck, the kitchen and laundry. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens.

Plenty of parking is available.

On a 27 acres, the property has a mix of forest and grazing land (we run some sheep here). There are many places to walk, enjoying the diverse views from the high grazing paddocks and then plunging into the forest along our forest stone pathway and viewing/absorbing our beautiful waterfall.

Check out the eucalypt trees along the driveway for koalas!

You'll have the whole house and surrounds to yourselves. You are invited to enjoy any or all of the property, especially the rainforest gullies with stone pathway and waterfall areas, a picnic spot, table and viewing seat. Take care with children and elderly on the waterfall path, it's sound but steep.

Excellent and varied land and seascape views are available from the sheep paddocks.

No other guests will be on the property. We have a separate house here and we are mostly available if you need something. But when not we'll leave you alone.

Warning: you'll find it hard to leave!

What to bring?

- Bring clothing for all conditions, the weather is variable, even in summer.

- A torch is handy.

- Shops/cafes with pretty much everything you need are 15 mins away.

The Area

If you haven't been in the area before it's a spectacular combination of coast and mountain. Great driving, diving, surfing, fishing, swimming (cold water!), beach lazing and rock hopping. Skenes Creek Surf beach is down the bottom of the hill, 5km by road and the calmer, Apollo Bay beach 3 km further; a favourite place for a morning walk along as the beach is 4km long.

As you no doubt know, The Gt Ocean Rd. is a fabulous asset of the area and a must explore option. The 12 Apostles are also hugely popular and about an hour away (but better you take the whole day to explore).

Then there's the Great Ocean Walk, a truly world class walk with all sections available as day walks , numerous inland walks in the National Park, inspiring waterfalls, great picnic areas, fabulous MTB single trails nearby if you're so inclined. Or road ride the Gt Ocean Road and the Skenes Creek hill if your fit!!

There's the outstanding Chris' Restaurant 2km down the hill and everything cosmopolitan available in Apollo Bay 15 mins away with numerous cafes and restaurants.

That's if you can drag yourself away from The Eyrie itself.

The Eyrie was our family home, but the chicks flew the nest, as they do and we don't need a 4br 2 bathroom house any more. So we have a smaller place, completely separate, on the farm from which we manage the land and property.

Beautiful location. Fabulous views

Andy was very welcoming and on hand when we arrived to explain the housekeeping. This was an idyllic location overlooking the water but set back in the forest with a beautiful bush walk in the grounds of the property. Would highly recommend this place. Views were even better than the photographs suggested.

Brilliant spot for a getaway!

The Eyrie is perched high over Apollo Bay, a perfect place to kick back and relax or use as a base to explore the area. Great amenities, open fire in winter, what more could you want? Andy has even set up a rainforest walk on the property. Highly recommended!

Loved it!

Stunning views!

Our group recently stayed at the Eyrie for a girls weekend away.

Location wise, you couldn't get any better. Amazing views, privacy and beautiful Apollo bay a short drive away, the coast line visible from the spacious deck out back.

The house itself was well equipped, clean and provided more than enough room for our group of 7. Some furnishings were perhaps a little out dated but a small detail that didn't take away from our stay at all.

We would happily return and recommend!

The extraordinary retreat with a view

We spent 4 wonderful days at the Eyrie. The house is absolutely charming, exsudes cosyness and space; the kitchen, made with beautiful wood, has everything you need to cook perfect meals, while looking through the huge windows at the ocean and rolling hills. The chimney is perfectly working (well needed when the temperature are low!) and it is a pleasure to relax in the comfy sofa. The bedrooms are fine (the heated cover makes it easy to go to bed), and we loved the glassed shower which allows views of the ocean and flowers of the garden. The owner, Andy, was always at hand when neeeded or to chat and give good advice; he also created a dreamy walk in the property, from an old eucalyptus forest to a secluded waterfall (with bench and small barbecue) through fields where gorgeous sheep are grazing. You feel people lived there and left life in the house. Last but not least, the house is close to Apollo Bay and all the wonders of the Otways and Great Ocean Road!
