About this property

Private Log Lodge Nestled In Chippewa National Forest On Secluded Lake.

Nestled in the Chippewa National Forest 3 1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities and 5 minutes out of Remer is 17 acres with a handscribed log lodge on Upper Milton Lake waiting for you to come relax and enjoy nature. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise with eagles, osprey, herons, bitterns and many other songbirds calling it home. The North Country National Scenic Trail intersects the driveway lending access to miles of trails and wilderness where you’ll find wildflowers, berries, grouse, woodcock, deer, bear, and timber wolves. Whether you want to cast a line off the floating dock in everyone’s “secret” fishing lake, gather around the campfire watching the northern lights or sit cozily inside by the fireplace this Northwood’s retreat is the place for you.

Amenities: Come get away from it all.. The log lodge was built in the 1980’s by the owner and her husband with the logs taken from the land on which the house stands. The shoreline with its water lilies floating alongside the dock was left natural so all could enjoy the way nature intended it to be. New Screenhouse with lakeview being constructed!

The Lodge is 2 ½ story walkout with deck around the main level. The upper loft is a bedroom with a queen-size bed overlooking the living room and a panoramic view of the lake. The main floor has an open floor plan with kitchen, dining room and living room. The gas fireplace is ready with a flick of a switch. There is also a bedroom with twin beds and a full bath on this floor. A spiral staircase leads to the lower level that has a bedroom with queen-size bed, a family room with pull out couch, full bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room.

Down at the lake is a floating dock with a Otter Island Swim raft, along with a new aluminum paddle boat, 2 kayaks, and a 12 ft aluminum row boat.

Activities and Attractions: Birdwatching: Many of the most sought-after birds in North America can be found. These include the Great Gray Owl, Bald Eagle, Boreal Owl, Northern Goshawk, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Black-backed Woodpecker, Boreal Chickadee, Gray Jay, Connecticut Warbler, Yellow Rail, Herons, Bitterns and Swans. In the winter you can also see the Snowy Owl, Northern Hawk Owl, Northern Shrike, Gyrfalcon, and Snow Bunting, crossbills, redpolls and winter finches.

Fishing: Fish right on Milton or other area lakes, Graves, Sand, Thunder, Woman or Long Lake which are minutes away. Minnesota’s premier walleye lakes, Leech, Big Boy, Winnibigoshish are within a 40 miles radius.
Boating: Bring your canoe, kayak or motorboat for the many area lakes. Boy River, 10 miles away, is a canoe route; maps available through the Chippewa National Forest.
Photography: Whether its wildflowers, birds or wildlife you are sure to find many subjects to snap. DNR has been doing a wolf/ deer study just out our backdoor.

Fantastic Hunting and Birding Lodge: Northwoods Log Lodge is a prime area for bird watching, bird hunting and big game hunting. Special rates for hunters. Public land out your doorstep for 5 miles. Just the peaceful place we were looking for!
Our stay was wonderful. The cabin has anything you might need indoors. Additionally, access to SUP boards, kayaks, a paddle boat, a row boat, and a canoe made our trip. We also spent a lot of time on the floating dock with our dog floating, fishing, and bird watching. This cabin and lake has the seclusion and privacy that is getting harder to find in the Northwoods.

About the host

In 1980, my husband, Roger and I moved north to fulfill our dream of living in the north woods. We lived in a tepee until the end of Oct. while we attempted our first construction project of building the basement for our to be log home. We had many friends come and help. It took many years to complete the log house as we had minimal money and equipment. The logs are from the property and were all hand peeled by myself while pregnant! We basically lived off the land eating fish, venison, rabbit, and all organic garden produce. Sadly my husband, Roger, passed away in 2006 from cancer. I dam attempting to keep this piece of my heart so turned it into a vacation rental to cover the costs of owning it. I have since married a wonderful man, Ed, who also lost his wife to cancer. I had to move north to Squaw Lake as we run a 1000 hive apiary. We live in another beautiful home that Ed and his wife, Nancy, built. Keeping bees keeps us busy!

Why they chose this property

The beauty of the woods and privacy of the lake sold me on this land 41 years ago. You get a sense of calm from being in this area.

What makes this property unique

It is very private and the wildlife, wildflowers, and beauty abound in this area.
