Cozy country retreat
We had a lovely relaxing stay at Debra & Wayne's property. The cottage had a great atmosphere like a giant hotel room. Fully stocked kitchen and modern bathroom. Wood fire was cozy and already going when we arrived. There was a well stocked woodpile. Aircon was available but not needed with fireplace going. We enjoyed observing their farmyard friends from the cottage balcony. Good mobile reception with Optus and Telstra, Vodaphone not so good. The cottage is right next to owners but you still have your privacy. Awesome viewing of night sky with numerous observatories in the area. Some lovely day trips to be had - we enjoyed Pilligas Pottery. Our dog loved holidaying with us, this was the highlight and we are thankful he was allowed inside the cottage. It was the perfect getaway country retreat. Thank you.
We are so glad that you enjoyed your visit and that everything was ok
It was lovely to meet all of you and that beautiful white fluffy dog was so cute
Hope to see you again
Thank you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy
Cottage with character under a starry sky
Forget ‘same same’ Motel chains and stay at Coonandry. This clean, comfortable, open plan mud brick cottage with character, is only a short drive from Coonabarabran and its conveniences. Arriving at the property you drive a brief distance up a dirt road through lovely gum trees to the cottage and you feel you have escaped to a peaceful setting. It was nice to sit on the verandah overlooking Wayne and Debra’s paddock with their sheep, chooks and alpacas. Great for kids. In the day we hiked in the beautiful Warumbungle National Park, drove to the sandstone caves and checked out Siding Springs – with its amazing view out the back of the Warrumbungles. At night we were so lucky to have three clear nights and were wowed by the number of stars and the fabulous milky way. You can just step outside the cottage and look up. As everyone says Wayne and Debra who live next door are lovely people who greet you and then if you want, leave you to enjoy the cottage but are on hand if you need anything. Also, of note is Debra’s great communication from the time of booking.
One of our best ever
If ever you are looking for an extremely relaxing, quiet and laid back getaway, this probably is the place. I chanced upon this place quite by accident as we had spent quite a lot of time recently near the sea and wanted something different. So a home stay nestled near a national park in rural NSW was an easy choice. As luck would have it, this place was still available given the busy holiday weekend in Easter and it just turned out to be perfect. This cottage is equipped with all the modern amenities including a fully equipped kitchen. For a small family of 4 or a couple it is simply perfect. The hosts Debra and Wayne are extremely welcoming and will immediately make you feel at home. Apart from the relaxing atmosphere this place is so silent that you can literally hear a pin drop. The bonus that comes with this location is, it is the closest to the Warrumbungle National Park which has the Siding Spring Observatory that houses the country's largest optical telescopes. This national park is the only certified Dark Sky Park of Australia making it perfect for astro-gazing and star-gazing if you are into astronomy. Hence Coonabarabran has been named as the Astronomy Capital of Australia. Apart from star gazing and star trail photography the park offers numerous hikes and walking trails. We made the most of our stay packing all that we could do outdoors and coming back to this lovely cottage for a nice deep rest. Honestly there is nothing more you can ask for if you are staying here. It was a pity that we couldn't stay longer because of work commitments but we already have made plans to come back and stay here for some more star trail photography. Thank you Debra & Wayne once again.
