The cottage is open-plan and split-level. The fully equipped kitchen/dining area has 3 steps leading up to the cosy living room where there is a music system and TV. The TV can be turned either towards the living room or the kitchen.
There is also a small office and WIFI. The 2 bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house, one on the ground floor, the other, loft, bedroom on the first floor. Both have double beds and are very spacious. The loft bedroom has more than enough space for 2 single beds as well, if required.
The bathroom has a large bath, separate shower, basin and toilet.
The terrace has a bar/BBQ and outdoor fridge. The private, heated, salt-treated 9 x 4m pool, open from May to October weather permitting, and its’ terrace overlook several valleys and has fabulous views! Parasols abound and Palm and Banana trees offer natural shade.
The cottage is in a hamlet with just 2 other houses so very quiet and peaceful but is only 1 minute from the village and its’ shops plus 3 bar/restaurants all with indoor and outdoor dining facilities. There is also an Indonesian take-away!
Changeover day is Saturday but out of high season I can be very flexible on day and also length of stay e.g. 10 days would be possible.
I came to France 27 years ago after 10 years of travelling and opened a Country Hotel. I needed to put down roots and had always loved France – the hotel just sort of happened!
Dawn Clarke purchased this cottage in 1998
I 'fell on' this property by pure luck and you would understand why I bought if you saw it and the amazing views.17 years ago I moved 5kms across the valley into a ‘cottage in need of some renovation….’ Apparently it used to be the local bakery and bistro. After a few years of renovation [I still keep improving where and when I can] I decided to rent it out on a holiday basis– I missed the contact with different people who then, often, became friends.
Not many cottages sleeping so few have a private, exclusive-use pool. Mostly, cottages of this size have a pool shared with at least one other property and I keep my tarif very competitive so that it is affordable for a couple on their own.
Thank you for a lovely holiday. We love the cottage and found it a very relaxing place to be.
Although the weather could have been kinder, some of us were in the pool nearly every day! Thank you for taking the trouble to look up the local walks, which we very much enjoyed.
We had a lovely meal at La Boissiere and would also recommend Chez Sarlet in Terrasson. Excellent patisserie to be had in the village but even this was surpassed by the patisserie in Objat.
We found the people in the area very friendly and very understanding of our limited French!
This is our 3rd stay here, and we had a suburb holiday again. We felt relaxed as within 5 minutes of being there. 5 stars every time; thanks Dawn!
LaBriasse was the perfect location for our holiday The cottage is very peaceful and private with a lovely pool, which was well used in the beautiful weather. We loved the views from the pool across the Correze countryside.
Everything we required was provided, and we really appreciated the welcome pack . Dawn's cottage is comfortable and has character and we really liked exploring the locality and Ayen.
Our family of two adults, two kids and one dog stayed for a beautiful week in Dawn's cottage. It's great to stay somewhere with character rather than a sterile holiday let, and Dawn's cottage certainly didn't disappoint. From the enclosed garden that even our basset couldn't escape from, to the private pool, and the lovely airy bedrooms to the cosy lounge, we enjoyed everything on offer. Thanks for making us so welcome Dawn!
This was our second visit to La Briasse and to give it five stars was an easy decision to make. As has been said in so many previous reviews, this a charming cottage with a wonderful pool in a superb location. The owner has significantly upgraded the pool area by having slab paving installed. The cottage has all the facilities that you could possibly desire, and Dawn the owner is always willing to help and assists you during your stay should you need anything. This holiday let is extremely competitively priced, and you would be hard pressed to find anything better in this price range. We had a wonderful holiday, just like before and we feel that it is an injustice that Dawn's 100% five star rating has been spoilt.

We immediately followed the last reviewers visit. This being our second stay, the first being in September 2014. As you can see we award our stay 5 stars, and was an easy decision to make. The property is charming and cosy and has all the facilities you could possibly require. The owner has significantly improved the pool area with new slab paving. As has been said on numerous other reviews the property is in a lovely peaceful location. We had a superb holiday and no doubt will return. The owner is very helpful and will address any problems that you may have. This property is very competitively priced, and we have not seen any other property of this quality in this price range. It is an injustice that the 100 per cent 5 star record has been spoilt.
If you are looking for a very quiet and peaceful holiday residence in the Dordogne region with beautiful views that can be admired from the lovely swimming pool and garden area with the warm, light wind, whistling in the palm trees that are situated around the garden, then La Briasse is the ideal place. Pity though, we found the cottage to be a little on the disappointing side, it is need of some TLC. One of our main points is that the rear bedroom that faces south, really needs curtains and sun blinds on the large velux windows, plus all of the windows in the cottage need to have mosquito nets fitted to them. All in all we enjoyed our stay at La Braisse and would certainly return if the above points were addressed.
Ayen is a small village on the Correze/Dordogne border 20 kms north west of Brive-la-Gaillarde. The departement of the Lot is only 20 kms away. Locally many walks - not for the faint-hearted as this area has magnificent views hence hills and valleys! The list of tourist sites to visit is exhaustive with everything from the 2nd most visited tourist spot in France - Rocamadour; to Pompadour - home of the National Stud; Lascaux; listed villages; museuems, pavement cafes, fishing, lakes with sailing and water ski-ing etc. etc. etc. Fantastic bird watching. Night sky superb.
Other Activities: Bird watching. Night sky.
