Newly renovated 1 bedroom, peaceful, private close to nature

Newly built 1 bedroom/1 bathroom cottage in our old barn. This is a secluded property with direct access to the salt marsh on Grand Marsh Bay. This is an excellent area for kayaking or boarding. The cottage is within walking/biking distance to beautiful sand beaches, and the picturesque fishing villages of Prospect Harbor and Corea.

The bedroom has a firm queen size platform bed. The living area has a padded 6 foot built-in window seat and two comfortable mission style chairs and ottoman. There is WIFI signal in the yard, but not yet inside the barn. For relaxing entertainment there are books, games, a radio ,and a CD player. The bathroom has a full tub and shower combo. The kitchen has all the basic necessities and condiments, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, coffee maker, microwave, electric stove and fridge. There are 2 ceiling fans and gas heat.

Bring your bikes, kayaks and hiking shoes. You can kayak right from the property onto our salt marsh and out to the ocean. Acadia National Park at Schoodic, the quiet side of Acadia is a short 10 minute drive away. The park offers biking and hiking with breathtaking views of the rugged Downeast Maine coastline. Bar Harbor is a one hour drive, or you can go by ferry departing from nearby Winter Harbor.

Pets will be considered, but please note we have a cat and chickens on the property. This is an owner occupied property with a garden area and drive between the barn and our living quarters .

Why Carol chose Gouldsboro

We love this property and the surrounding area. Close to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but far enough to be in another world where you can go out on the salt marsh and maybe not see another person. Maybe an eagle chasing an Osprey carrying a fish, or be surprised when a seal pops up next to your kayak. The soothing sound of the Corea fog horn and the starlit skies lets you know you are far from a city and comfortably close to nature.

What makes this cottage unique

Peaceful, secluded, private, direct access to salt marsh and Dyke Brook. Great hiking and biking. Close to incredible DownEast Maine sights. A one hour drive or ferry ride to Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island. A day trip to beautiful Campobello Island in Canada is less than 2 hours away.

Impeccable cottage made us feel right at home in the Maine woods!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about staying in the Cottage in the Barn. It is newly finished by the owner and is done in a comfortable, relaxed and beautiful manner with attention to detail. It is located on 62 acres of wooded land, close to sweet little towns with plenty of charm, and right down the road to a private sandy beach. We took the ferry to Bar Harbor for the day and saw dolphins on the way. Our host, Carol, was wonderful--providing us with a sunhat (which we forgot to bring), folding chairs and towels for the beach, and lots of great tips on what to see.

Owner's Response: Well Kip, I must say that you win the prize! We truly enjoyed having you folks here. You saw all the sights and did all you could possibly do in the short time you were here. You left the cottage impeccably clean, and the wine and leftovers are greatly appreciated. We do hope to see you here again. Hope your journey home was a pleasant one. Best regards, Carol

Wonderful Place to Stay near Schoodic!

  • 5 of 5

My mom and I stayed at the Cottage in the Barn very comfortably for a week. The cottage itself was a peaceful and restful place to be. We enjoyed seeing the salt marsh at low/high tide. The beach nearby was also beautiful and was fun to explore and also made for a good morning walk. We spent quite a bit of time on the Schoodic peninsula and never experienced any crowds. Carol and John had lots of information on local points of interest, where to eat, where to shop, etc. Large Marge, the dog, greeted us quietly every time we returned to the cottage! Loved it here and highly recommend it!

Amazing and relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the cottage in the barn to much we didnt want to leave. It is so cozy and comfortable and the owners are great and helped us out with things to do and were very accomodating! They even left fresh eggs in the fridge from thier chickens! We spent most of our time hiking and exploring Schoonic peninsula which was a lot more quiet and less chaotic than bar harbor. Very relaxing trip. We can't wait to go back!

Owner's Response: Wow! Really appreciate your review. We enjoyed you and your terrific spirit when the water went off. We would absolutely love to have you come back next year. The walking stick is lovely, you didn’t have to do that though. Really hope to see you again. Have a wonderful summer. All the best, Carol

SCHOODIC PENINSULA IS THE REAL DOWNEAST YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS. IT IS QUIET AND BEAUTIFUL. WILD BERRIES IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER, AND APPLES IN THE FALL. CAMERAS ARE REQUIRED TO CAPTURE THE BEAUTY OF THE LOCAL FARMERS MARKETS AND FESTIVALS IN THE AREA. YOU MAY SEE MOOSE OR DEER IN THE YARD AND LOTS OF BIRD LIFE FLYING OVER THE MARSH. WE HAVE DAILY VISITS FROM EAGLES AND OSPREY AS THEY HUNT THEIR MEALS ON THE SALT MARSH.

THE EASIEST WAY TO VISIT BAR HARBOR AND AVOID THE TRAFFIC IS TO TAKE THE ONE HOUR RELAXING FERRY RIDE BETWEEN WINTER HARBOR AND DOWNTOWN BAR HARBOR. SEE THE HUGE CRUISE SHIPS AND SCHOONERS IN THE HARBOR AND POSSIBLY GET A GLANCE OF A WHALE OR SEAL ALONG THE WAY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DRIVE TO BAR HARBOR/ CADILAC MOUNTAIN, IT IS APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MILES BY ROAD AND TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR.
