'Cape Dreaming' is a three-bedroom holiday house located in Scenic Drive Cape Paterson which has been recently relocated and extensively renovated. As such it has a virtually new kitchen, laundry, bathroom and toilet and all interior and exterior surfaces have been redecorated.
With an open-plan living area comprising lounge, dining and kitchen all three bedrooms and the laundry / bathroom / toilet are reached directly from the main area. A large private deck area is located directly out the lounge room door.
Like many 'holiday homes' the house is compact. That said it provides more than sufficient functionality and comfort to participate and function as a family group or group of friends, and the upside is that cleaning takes no time! It provides the ideal base for taking time out to chill watching a movie or three, cooking up a storm or knocking back a beer or wine on the deck at the end of the day.
With three bedrooms, the main and second bedroom with queen size beds and the third with a double, a maximum of five to six people can be comfortably accommodated. The house is best suited to an older family group or adult friends as there are some external stairs and the house could not be considered overly 'child friendly', and may pose problems for families with toddlers or younger children. that said gates have been fitted to reduce risks.
Kitchen facilities include a modern oven and hotplates, dishwasher and full compliment of cooking implements and utensils and crockery and cutlery. The kitchen island bench also serves as a breakfast bar. The extendable dining table beside the kitchen seats six and the table on the patio seats eight.
The lounge features a large couch together with another chair. Opposite is a large LCD television, DVD player and stereo, with a second stereo in the master bedroom. We also now have available free WiFi for those that need or like to stay connected. Day and night block-out screens are fitted to the main lounge window-sliding door and master bedroom.
Externally there is a large deck featuring outdoor setting and BBQ with a newly buit open roof which offers extra comfort and protection from the elements. Two car parking bays are located at the front of the block and there is a large concrete at the rear of the house accessed down the driveway. The block slopes heavily toward the rear and the rear yard is accessed via stairs from the deck, the driveway or path on the other side of the house.
Cape Paterson - the jewel of the Bass Coast
Cape Paterson is located 145 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne and is either freeway or duel highway for the vast majority of its length, so access is a breeze. Importantly given Cape Paterson's small village dimensions the beach is never far away and a 10-15 walk will comfortably get you to the safe bay beach and rock swimming pool or either of the two main surf beaches. The shop and tavern is little over five minutes walk and there is a playground, at most a couple of minutes walk from the house.
Within 10 minutes drive are the rugged and isolated beaches at beautiful Harmer's Haven, or perhaps the trendy Inverloch or the range of naturally delightful hidden coves and bays along the Bunurong Coastal Drive (the Coast Road) between Cape and Inverloch. We recommend 'The Oaks' or 'Shack Bay' as great little beaches away from the more popular main beaches at Cape or Inverloch (though it is only the main surf and bay beaches at Cape and Inverloch that have lifesavers on duty during the peak periods over summer.
Further afield but still an easy day trip are the famous Penguins and Koalas at Phillip Island or the iconic beauty of Wilsons Promontory, the Island a short 30 minute drive and the 'Prom' an hour and a half or 100 kilometres away. Alternatively there are great beaches at Venus Bay, Walkerville and Shallow Inlet or if you feel like getting away from the ocean for a while try the delightfully eclectic Meeniyan, the natural beauty surrounding the village of Koonwarra, Leongatha or Foster. And an enjoyable few hours can be whiled away at the outdoor museum, 'Coal Creek', the jewel in the crown of Korumburra which is located a little over half an hours drive away in the beautiful Strzelecki hills.
Wonthaggi is a five minute drive away and provides a good range of retail and dining options as well as hospital and a range of other key services. A visit to Cape is not complete without a visit to the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine which provides a plethora of historic gems from the districts rich past as the provider of high grade coal for the railways, industry and the public from 1911 until operations ceased in 1968.
