Locality
Port Hughes is a popular tourist destination, with attractions including a Greg Norman designed links style golf course (9 holes presently), the beautiful beach of Cape Elizabeth (approx 2.5 miles long stretch of beautiful soft sand), the ever popular jetty, NEW boat ramp, tavern and general store.

The beach is regarded safe for swimming as it's protected by Cape Elizabeth with no sudden drop off's. This together with the beautiful scenery and local attractions draws many families on vacation from Adelaide and surrounding areas, generally no more than 2 hours’ drive.

Fishing is a very popular pastime in the area with the choice of many "hot spots" in and around Port Hughes and Moonta Bay, whether off the beach or jetty for whiting, flathead, squid or tommies or further out to sea for our famous King George Whiting. If you don't have your own boat, there are plenty of local charters available for hire.

The Port Hughes general store offers a bit of everything. Less than five minutes away, this is a great place to go for basic provisions, fishing supplies as well as a servo. The cafe in the General Store is also excellent for a quick lunch, be warned, hot chips are addictive!

The local tavern offers excellent value for money pub meals with a front bar with the TAB which also doubles as a bottle shop. Port Hughes also has a very popular bistro "The Deck" within The Dunes complex, overlooking stunning Cape Elizabeth and the Greg Norman designed golf course.

The house is only 5 minutes away from Moonta which has a large supermarket Drakes, banking, newsagents, several pubs and local shops, including some excellent antiques shops. Kadina, a large bustling town, is the principal township of the "Copper Coast" area and is only 20 minutes’ drive away.

Port Hughes is well placed on the Yorke Peninsula for visiting its many attractions including stunning Marion Bay and Innes National Park.

Great Family House
Another great family stay in Port Hughes. House is lovely and spacious with everything you could need. Amazing views from the balcony to enjoy a wine at the end of a beach day. Sadly, the BBQ was not cleaned for the second year in a row, not sure if this was previous tenants or not but we couldn't use it. One of the downstairs bedrooms could use a new bed/mattress too. We will be back! Thank you Matthew & Joanna

Great location
We had a lovely long weekend stay with a group of friends. Very friendly owner. Golf course within walking distance was a bonus, the house is lovely however a little TLC required on the property & would suggest updating the bed linen.

About the host

Hosted by Matthew & Joanna Taylor

Host profile image
We're just a normal family based in the beautiful Adelaide Hills who regularly visit York Peninsula so in late 2010 we decided to invest in some land within "The Dunes".

We then set about building our holiday house which we designed with both our needs and short term rentals in mind.

We called it St Ives at Pt Hughes as when living in the UK we loved to spend our summer holidays in Cornwall.

We then later discovered that my great, great grandfather was originally from Cornwall & moved to Moonta during the copper boom, setting up business as the town cobbler.

Why they chose this property

The design was based on a Rivergum home but we changed quite a bit to give us & guests more room upstairs & downstairs.

We changed the orientation so the the downstairs living area was at the back of the property & relocated the laundry to under the stair which gave us more living space.

What makes this property unique

We treat our guests like our friends, encouraging them to just sit back & enjoy but also respect this house as it was their own. We've set it up like a normal house, not the cookie cutter traditional holiday let with x6 forks, x6 knives etc...
