The Bales resides on two beautiful treed acres, framed by open farmland, an avenue of mature pines and a wonderful dam. The architect-designed home, partly constructed of rendered straw bales and recycled timbers and sandstone, is ideal for two families or a group of 8 friends. The property's unique atmosphere suits ceremonial occasions, where bridal parties or the groom's family can be accommodated on the weekend of your wedding in town or nearby in the region.

Three bedrooms comprise a huge master suite with king bed and ensuite, queen bedroom, and double bunk room. A second bathroom includes a bath with shower. Two living areas with soaring windows, each with TVs and fires, allow plenty of space to spread out. Indoor entertainment includes a PlayStation 3 and music iDevice dock. A pool table with cues and balls provides entertainment in the second living area. The open plan kitchen features a large fridge, drinks fridge, breakfast bar, double oven, coffee machine (and Nespresso capsules) and all the usual appliances and more. Teas, coffee, sugar and basic cooking ingredients are provided for your convenience.

The grounded feeling of luxury and comfort of the architecture is complimented by attention to the little things: coffee machine, built fires ready to light on arrival, the softest blankets on every bed, quality towels and linen for your comfort, and a well-equipped kitchen.

A substantial north-east deck facing the dam and garden is perfect for your morning tea in the sun while you watch the children explore the cubby, playground and the trampoline under the trees. Enjoy a meal outdoors or a sundowner, when you might spot the family of grey wallabies that graze in the gathering dusk. A gas barbecue on the deck will feed the hordes.

Stroll 5 minutes to reach the tranquility of the Wombat Forest with its many walking and bicycle trails. 10 minutes meander in the other direction is the historical town of Trentham, with its many attractions:

Eateries including The Cosmopolitan Hotel, Annie Smithers' du Fermier, Red Beard Bakery, Coliban for sophisticated locally produced pantry items;

Coffee shops and eateries such as the Trentham Collective and Chaplins;

Galleries where you can pick up a hand-crafted souvenir;

Homewares, bookshops and giftware;

Unique vintage clothing;

Nurseries and

Eccentric novelty shops such as Two Fat Wombats.

Browse markets which are held every weekend in the area. Perhaps schedule your weekend to coincide with the Farmers' Market on the 3rd Saturday of each month. The town square is only a 10 minute walk. Use the basket provided! Cook up a fresh feast with local produce and enjoy al fresco lunch or cosy up in front of the fire for a leisurely evening.

Explore the spa country via Daylesford which is a 15 minute drive away past the Trentham Falls. Equally nearby is cosmopolitan Kyneton and Woodend. Hanging Rock and Mt Macedon are less than half an hour away too.

Every season offers a different experience of the Cool Country: daffodils and ducklings in spring, unbelievably green grass and balmy evenings in summer; autumn foliage to inspire walks during crisp afternoons, possible snow dustings and chilly rainy days in winter to encourage a lazy weekend with just a book, a red and a roaring open fire. If you can stay a week or more, please enquire about special rates.

Whether you wish to sit back on the couch and watch the birds beyond the 5 metre windows, or explore the Cool Country from a luxurious base, The Bales won't disappoint you. Follow 'The Bales Trentham' on Facebook for local news and developments.

The property is rustic with a natural feel. It's cozy and easy to get too.

  • 4 of 5

We want to thank you for making our stay so hospitable and inviting, giving us that rustic warm experience. It was what we needed after a busy week. The calmness and tranquility of nature's surrounding trees around the home is so picturesque.

All weekend was spent with short walks to the local shops and sitting infront of an open fire hearing the wood crackling over a glass of wine as the cold temperatures dropped outside.

Besides all that, you made our stay comforting with all the amenities at reach and kids friendly experiencing the outdoors. Highly recommended!

Just bring your fresh food and Bales will take care of the rest...

The perfect weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weekend at The Bales. The property is so warm & inviting, comfy beds and lounges. The setting was very peaceful amongst the trees and just a short walk into town for a delicious lunch at du fermier. We couldn't recommend The Bales highly enough, the fires were ready to be lit upon our arrival with plenty of wood stacked. The board games & pool table were perfect for a quiet girls weekend. We will be back.

  • 4 of 5

The house was luxurious & well thought out.

The children played outside the whole time while l got plenty of time to put my feet up with a coffee & enjoy the views. Being close to town was a bonus.

WOW! Stunning Property in a Serene Location.

  • 5 of 5

Such an amazing Property in a Serene environment. My family and I spent a weekend at the Bales which was not long enough. My 9 year old said it was the 'best holiday ever', (this coming from a child who I struggle to get off electronics!). We explored, we relaxed, we enjoyed one another's company. Plenty of room for the kids to play. The house was well equipped with everything you can think of - outdoor cooking amenities, board games, dvd's, linen, generous sized rooms, coffee machine etc. The list goes on. Alex's attention to detail is flawless.

A special mention to the host 'Alex'.

Alex you were an absolute pleasure to communicate with. You are super organised making the booking, arrival and departure a breeze. Our queries were answered promptly and efficiently. WE will definitely be back!

Perfect long weekend away

  • 5 of 5

My wife booked the The Bales House for my 40th birthday. We absolutely loved everything about this house. Having a wine in front of the open fire was the perfect way to spend our time while our two young kids played with the variety of toys provided and explored outside in property grounds. With two great country pubs and a cute little town only a short work away we found it easy to occupy our time. We will be back.
