Quite and Cozy Retreat
Truly enjoyed our weekend stay on Mitawan Lake. The cabin is secluded down by the water and cozy warm inside with a wood burning fireplace for ambiance. We made many trips to the sauna and gazed across the lake with our morning coffee. Wonderful weekend, will definitely return again.
Amazing cabin on shoreline. Well designed and appointed, a delightful northern Minnesota forest
Lovely. We had several thunderstorms during our visit which added some excitement. We settled in and relaxed. Day trips to Grand Marais for single track biking and Ely for lunch and a walk about town.
Great spot on the lake!
We really enjoyed being right on the water. The lake was very quiet - even on the weekend. We saw lots of loons and several eagles. And the screened porch kept us dry and outside on the one day it rained. The cabin had everything we needed. Thanks!
Relaxing and quiet.
Perfect experience! Loved it and will be back.
An Excellent Cabin for a Northern Minnesota Winter Vacation
My wife and I loved staying here for 4 nights during the dead of winter! We skied each day at the beautiful National Forest Flathorn - Gegoka Ski Trails, barely a ten minute drive away and spent the rest of our time cooking and relaxing in front of a cozy, crackling fire in the wood stove. Definitely make sure to fire up the sauna too!
The cabin was as advertised: fantastically situated on the edge of the snow-covered lake, to be enjoyed either inside by the warm gas stove while looking out on the peaceful winter scene, or outside, skiing the lake immediately outside the door or going to the ski area a short 10 minute drive away, both lovely options. It was cold outside, -10 degrees the morning we left, but the cabin is kept warm by a combination of wood stove, gas stove, and propane furnace. The cabin is well equipped for cooking your own warm meals. We appreciated the fact that the owners are concerned about taking care of the environment and encourage their guests to do likewise. With pictures of the history of the cabin available, the place is a good introduction to Minnesota cabin life, as it was for the Californian who was with us. Remote enough to provide a sense of "getting away," yet not so far that one had to worry about isolation even in the Minnesota cold. The cabin is well-suited for four people, six would be less comfortable, unless all close family.
The cabin provides you with a secluded window to nature and we provide you will a kayak, canoe, fishing boat, docks, grills, fire pits.
