About this property

Superb Charentaise house, 4 ensuite bedrooms with private heated pool.

Our beautiful stone house has been renovated to a very high standard internally and externally. Key to a relaxing holiday is the pool, surrounded by decking within a private walled courtyard. The outside eating area is a delightful setting to enjoy leisurely meals al fresco. Inside the house is a large open plan living/dining/kitchen with exposed stone walls and a wood burning stove, tastefully furnished with leather sofas. The oak kitchen has been comprehensively equipped, and the large refectory style oak table provides ample seating. The property has one downstairs bedroom with wet room (with disabled access) and 3 upstairs bedrooms, 2 with shower rooms and 1 with bathroom, all with high ceilings, large windows and fantastic exposed oak beams. All the bedrooms are furnished in a traditional French style. The property has views over open fields and the adjacent chateau.

Holiday
Lovely, well equipped house. Peaceful location. Large pool that is heated. Pretty area with vines and sunflowers. Lovely places to visit within easy driving distance. Quiet villages nearby with bakers and some restaurants within 10 mins drive. Easy, relaxing holiday.

French Holiday
We spent a week in Saint Germain Du Seudre in early July 2018. The location is rural and the house is set in beautiful countryside. The nearest town is a 5 minute drive away or it is 10 minutes drive to Gemozac which has restaurants, supermarkets, a yummy bakery and other local amenities. There is lots to do in the local area. Bordeaux is well worth a visit for its shopping, architecture and history. Jonzac has a very good restaurant called Le Coq D’Or, so good in fact that we chose to go back twice in two days!! We also visited Cognac where we went on the Hennessey Cognac tour, Saintes and Talmont. A wine tour is a must and we would recommend Chateau Marquis De Vauban for quality and price. Overall, we enjoyed the area and will be coming back to Bordeaux again.

Great relaxing Country Property!!
Alex and I had a wonderfully relaxing holiday in June 2018. Everything was as described and the property was perfect. The courtyard was secluded, private and perfect for al fresco dining. With the pool on the doorstep, it couldn’t be better. Inside was well laid out and very comfy. There was very good WiFi, which is something most people need. Locally there are lots of things to do. Pons has a lovely cafe francaise for evening meals. Talmont has a number of lovely restaurants. Nearby Royan has numerous good beaches and a day trip to Bordeaux, and St Emillion are a must. All in all I would highly recommend this place. 5*

Just lovely
The villa was everything we had hoped it would be: stylish, clean, and comfortable. And the courtyard complemented the house perfectly - the stone walls, decking, and rattan furniture make for a great combination especially when set beneath a neat blue sky reflected in the cool blue pool. The countryside immediately surrounding the villa was beyond expectation too: sunflower fields, vineyards, and corn fields. It made for a wonderful bicycle ride to the local bakers to collect the morning pastries while others were still waking up - the availability of the bikes helped immensely in this regard! Hands down the best holiday home we have rented since we began doing so some eight or more years ago. We would happily book again. Thanks Rebecca. Thanks Adrian - from Tim, Funda, & Nurten.

Great gite in beautiful location
We had a wonderful holiday, the gite was lovely with plenty of room and very well stocked out with everything you could need and on our arrival there was a small welcome pack which was much appreciated. The pool was fantastic and our children really made good use of it. The Gite is not far from Gemozac which is a lovely little town with restaurant, supermarkets etc. We were also only about half an hour from the coast. We would absolutely recommend this gite and we would have no hesitation in booking to stay again.

About the host

We live in Shifnal, Shropshire with our 3 teenage children, Rebecca is a teacher and speaks French. Adrian works in manufacturing.

Why they chose this property

We looked for a house in the Charente Maritime region as Rebecca had enjoyed many holidays there as a child and loved the area. We bought 3 Roussillon in 2006, when it was a complete wreck and hadn't been lived in for over 10 years, with the intention of gradually doing it up. We soon realised that if we did the work ourselves our children would be grown up before we'd finished! So we enlisted the help of some local artisans to restore the house. We've been holidaying there and renting it out since 2008.

What makes this property unique

Our house was built for farmworkers working for the landowner at the chateau. It was originally built as one house, but was divided when two brothers inherited it and decided to split it. The other half is still owned by members of the same family.
