Welcome to the lap of luxury in the warmest place in Canada! Mill Bay, BC is located on Vancouver Island, 35 minutes north of Victoria in the Cowichan Valley - touted as having the warmest average year round temperature in all of Canada. This house is creatively designed with very unique features. Enjoy stunning ocean and mountain views across the Saanich Inlet. Witness the sun rising over the ocean and mountains from your master bedroom (or shower or any room in the house for that matter).

The house is very west coast - from the driftwood bar, door handles and rails to the stonework of the steps inside and outside the house. With stunning ocean views from every room in the house, this is west coast living at its finest!

Every room in the house offers views of the mountains and ocean with the best views from the house coming from the patio off the upstairs master bedroom. Enjoy your morning coffee while watching the sun rise over the mountains! Watch the planes landing and taking off from the Victoria airport in Sidney across the Saanich inlet - from your walk-in shower. Gaze at the stars (the big dipper takes center stage) while relaxing in the huge claw foot tub.

Three massive windows in the great room offer views of the majestic Mount Baker in the U.S as well as Saltspring Island and the mountains on the mainland of British Columbia.

The grounds have an abundance of spectacular flowers, plants and trees which bloom throughout the spring and summer.

On the side deck, there’s a BBQ that guests may use.

Guests are also able to use any of the herbs from the herb garden out front including things like rosemary, thyme, oregano, parsley, cilantro and basil plus a variety of mints. There’s also a large lavender bush in the front yard.

There is a propane fireplace in the living room, a huge, fully loaded kitchen, a computer room, dining room and bar area. There is only one bedroom that’s located on the 2nd floor so for extra guests, a queen size blow up bed gets inflated and set up in the bar area downstairs. There is a half bathroom downstairs and a full bathroom upstairs – with shower and claw foot tub separated from the sink and toilet.

About Reese Richards

I bought a beautiful house, built a suite in the back and moved my mother here to British Columbia from the cold of Ottawa winters. Unfortunately, after the first year, my mother missed her friends and old life so much that she decided to move back to Kingston, Ontario to live with my sister.

And so I started traveling again during the summers allowing others to experience the joy I get from my house by renting it out as a vacation rental.

I'm well-travelled and have visited many of the scenic spots on the lower half of Vancouver Island. I've fished, kayaked, hiked, golfed and toured many of the points of interest in the Mill Bay, Cobble Hill, Shawnigan Lake & Duncan areas. I love nature and so I bought a house that had some land (3/4 acre) and was close to nature without being too far from the city. 

I love to cook so you'll find the kitchen to be fully equipped. And I like to cook with fresh ingredients so you'll have access to all the herbs in my herb garden in the front yard.

I have a tenant in the back of the property who will be taking care of the grounds as well as being on-hand in case of any emergencies. You likely will only see the tenant when he is leaving for work (he usually works 4pm – 4am in Victoria) or when he’s out walking his English Bulldog (very friendly, named “ah tay yah”.

I also have a cleaning lady taking care of cleaning and maintaining the house in my absence.

I'm a big fan of nature and renovated the inside of the house to reflect that as much as possible. My place is very west coast and you'll see why once you pull up to the front of the house. A beautiful driftwood rail adorns the front stoop as well as on the way upstairs to the master bedroom. There's also creative stonework in and outside the house. And then there's the driftwood bar.

What makes this house unique

Nice but a little point to know

Very nice place but please note that the second bed is an inflated bed located in the main room and not a real bed. We didn't understand this point when we made the reservation.

Mill Bay Getaway -- Yay!!

Firstly, Reese was super easy to book with and very attentive. As soon as we arrived, he met us and gave us a tour of his beautiful 3/4 acre property and hot tub that overlooks Mill Bay - We enjoyed the hot tub a lot!

Our suite was super spacious and Reese has added so many designer touches including a lovely indoor stream, a stunning claw foot bathtub and pacific northwest wood and stone accents and light fixtures that truly set this property off. The huge bay windows offer wonderful views of the bay and mountains on a clear day. His home is just 3 minutes away from Brentwood which made it extremely convenient for us as we were visiting our daughter who attends school there.

Thanks Reese too for the little extras - snacks, coffee, cream, eggs, english muffins etc. that made our stay that much nicer! We'll definitely be back!
