Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Calosso - Anderson vineyard house

4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 8

Midway between the quaint market town of Santo Stefano Belbo and the medieval town of Calosso, the farmhouse is set in an elevated position amongst the beautiful wine hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, with breathtaking views of surrounding countryside. It is at the centre of the most widely acclaimed wine and food region in Italy. The house is in the middle of a Unesco recognised zone, in the process of being listed for it's beauty and the unique coverage of the hills with small vineyards.

The beautiful farmhouse has recently been restored to the highest standard with cotto floors, stone benches and much locally made wooden furniture. Each bedroom has its own balcony (one a large terrazzo) and the whole house faces south to ensure plenty of light and sunshine.

A two story house with 4 bedrooms (3 facing south), a large but cosy lounge room with open fire, and an enormous kitchen/dining/living room.

The house includes a sheltered portico area for outdoor dining and barbecue.

The grounds comprise a paved area around the elevated house (approx 150 sq m) and some 2000 sq m of dolcetto vineyard below. The area surrounding the house is enclosed and ideal for outside eating under the awning and a safe play area for children.

Your morning walk on the narrow , barely used country roads, takes you past some of the most highly regarded vineyards and wineries in Piemonte. These roads wind through an exquisite landscape which extends as far as the eye can see.

Within an easy 10 minute drive of the property you will find charming local restaurants and several osteria which form an important part of the history of the worldwide slow food movement.

The towns of Alba (home of the prized white truffle) and Barolo (premier Italian wine) are within a short drive as well as Bra, the birth place of slow food.

Visits to wonderful local cantinas can be arranged with a phone call and delicious local food purchased at local markets several times a week.

There is a lovely public swimming pool 6 kms away at Costigliole d'Asti and a very large public swimming pool can be found in Acqui Terme (only 20 minutes by car).

Other activities include cycling, tennis (in local village) and boules and table tennis on the property.

Thanks for the opportunity to stay at your beautiful house.

On previous trips to Italy we have gone from hotel to hotel across the country, having lots of fun, but quite weary at the end from all the hotel changes. On this occasion we used your house as a base and made smaller trips out and about.

It worked really well. Calosso is in the centre of gorgeous area and we found ourselves easily within a day's travel of fantastic towns around about, at the sea and in the mountains. On the days we weren't travelling we were more than content walking around the nearby villages, visiting wineries and just chilling out in your garden.

We had the best time. Thanks once again.

A Wonderful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful property for a week with some friends and had such an amazing time. We visit Piedmont every year and this is one of our favorite properties we've stayed at. The Anderson Farmhouse has all the comforts you need for your holiday. We especially loved the open kitchen and large dining table. The kitchen is one of the nicest ones we've seen, with great appliances and plenty of dishware. The outdoor lounge furniture was nice and very cozy! The location is perfect, a short drive to all the famous wine villages. Oh - and the view from the terrace is gorgeous. The surrounding hills with their vineyards are spectacular, and make for a lovely stroll. I highly recommend this property for your holiday!!

A Beautiful Home in a Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I wanted to spend time in one location and invite friends and relatives to visit. We rented the Anderson Farmhouse for a month. Throughout that month we had a chance to fall in love with the Piedmont region. We were able to share our experiences with many friends and relatives. Visits to nearby towns for market days, cooking meals in the beautiful kitchen and dining room. Walking to Calosso through the wine fields for coffee and rolls in the morning. Visiting the small towns of the Langhe and Monferrat hills (Neive, Bra, La Morra,

Barolo, Serralunga d'alba, Alba), going to dinner in small Osterias in nearby towns. Visiting wineries, castles, churches. It really was wonderful and we feel very fortunate to have found this property and had this wonderful experience. Maria is a pleasure to work with and is very conscientious about making sure everything is okay. The house is spacious, very clean, modern appliances, and magnificient views. The property was a huge hit with all of our guests as was the surrounding Piedmont area. We truly did not want to leave.

6 Americans loved our week in your house!

  • 5 of 5

We are writing this review on our last night in your beautiful house. We have finished eating our meal of fresh salad and pasta 'al fresco' on the patio, and have digested our meal taking a walk up and down the hills surrounding the house. The hills and vineyards around the house are beautiful - the scenery is prettier than the pictures on your website. We enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting just at the top of the road (wonderful woman who was happy to speak English), and enjoyed driving through the hills to the various towns. NOTE: I would recommend having a GPS in your car!

The house is wonderful - large, comfortable, quiet and good sleeping. Internet works well and is fairly consistent. The kitchen is well supplied, and we prepared and enjoyed many meals. The TV even has a few English speaking channels.

The house is not located in a city/town- but in the farming vineyards, so be prepared to drive 30 minutes to get to most 'major' Piedmont destinations.

A wonderful haven in the magical Piedmont region

  • 5 of 5

The property definitely exceeded our expectations: well-sited in a stunning landscape; spotlessly clean; very welcoming and comfortable; great kitchen to cook in; wonderful place to chill out with ones travelling companions and a great base from which to explore the region. We fell in love with the house and its immediate surrounds, and with the Piedmont region. We enjoyed the local markets, local wines, the locals, the song of the cuckoo each morning and the many beautiful villages of the region. The local village of Calosso, which we enjoyed walking to, is a delight and we feasted on wonderful meals at Il Piccolo. This part of Asti has a magical feel and we are all keen to return. Maria and family - thank you for making your lovely farmhouse available to us.

A Little Piece of Heaven (here on earth)

  • 5 of 5

Four weary Americans arrived in the evening, searching for a farm house in the hills of the Piedmont region. We found the farmhouse and settled in immediately. Room windows flew open to take in panoramic view of the vineyards stretching in directions. The property was clean, the renovated bathrooms surprisingly modern and there was a Cuckoo bird calling a greeting to us from the vineyard.

We stayed 10 days and never tired of exploring the nearby towns. We loved Santo Stefano Belbo, Bubbio, Asti, Alba and tiny towns like Piana Del Salto and Calosso. Venture further out an explore Turin. Be sure to try the chocolate in Turin. There is nothing like it!

We took a day trip to Cinque Terra. This little bit of paradise has become a bit of a tourist trap. But the views from the cliffs are well worth the hike. (It is a good couple of hours of hiking - including up hill.)

Do NOT miss dining at La Crota in Calosso. I had a simple egg dish there that was truly memorable. Everyone in our party enjoyed this restaurant! We went there two evenings. Each dish was better than the last.

As the days passed a peace washed over the group. We shopped at an outdoor market and stayed home two evening to cook our own repast from the fresh produce we bought. The Asti spumenti is divine in this region - nothing like the Asti we buy in the US.

I slept well. There is nothing like the peacefulness of the countryside and waking up to a view of vineyards. Try some of the local vinyards - there are many in this area.

We were reluctant to leave when our 10 days were up.

Thank you Maria for sharing your little peace of heaven with us.

Stunningly beautiful hills covered with a patchwork of small vineyards.

Suitable for mountain bike riding (available for hire in Santo Stefano) and perfect for walking. There is a tennis court within a kilometre of the property and a number of communal swimming pools within about 6 kilometres.

The area comes alive during the summer months with warm days and fresh breezes on most evenings. Particularly vibrant months are September and October when many wine and food festivals are held.

Other Activities: wine tasting
