This studio cottage sits on 5 acres of orchard, gulch and gardens with the Kohala coast as a backdrop. The owners farm the back 20 acres with cattle, sheep, goats and chickens. We are located midway between the towns of Hawi and Kapa'au--both known for their quaint shops and restaurants. Although only a 5-minute drive to town, the cottage is set back from the road and is completely surrounded by tall bamboo and ironwood trees ensuring a tranquil and private environment. Guests may wander the grounds to pick seasonal fruits, herbs and veggies, visit with the animals or kick back in a comfy hammock to enjoy the tradewinds. Complimentary Direct TV and internet are available for your convenience. There is a kitchenette complete with microwave, 2 burner hot plate, coffee maker, toaster oven, blender and refrigerator. It is fully supplied with dishes and cookware should you choose to prepare your own meals. There is a dining table with views of the front lawn and orchard and a country grocery store just across the street. The comfortable queen sized bed sleeps two and the bath has both tub and shower. Scenic Pololu Valley and lookout is a 20 minute drive to the north and Hapuna Beach State Park and Kohala resorts are a 25 minute drive to the south. Other activities in the area include zip line, Kohala ditch tour and horse back riding. The eclectic and entertaining Hawi farmers market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

This was the perfect base for exploring the north side of the island.
Peggy was a wonderful host. The property was just as described, and very comfortable, clean and calm. We would definitely stay here again!
Amazing amazing place!
One of the greatest places we have ever stayed! Beautiful studio, ample room. Quiet and relaxing. Peggy treated us like family, showed us the farm, made us fresh lemonade! Jackie, her dog, was very warm and welcoming too!
A delightful cottage in a peaceful setting with, in Peggy, a most accommodating host.
We stayed 4 nights and could easily have stayed many more. The cottage is ideally set up for two and Peggy is a most thoughtful, generous and welcoming host. The cottage is a lovely escape and located within short drives of luscious, green valleys, sandy beaches or lava strewn mountain views. About halfway between two character filled small towns, there is ample choice to eat out or explore numerous galleries, and a well stocked supermarket is right across the road.
We highly recommend Tranquil Cottage in Kapaau.
Quiet spot with easy drive to beaches
We spent two nights at this quiet apartment that had everything we needed. The location was great for visiting Pololu Beach, Lapakahi State Historical Park, and Mauna Kea or Hapuna Beach. Traffic on Rt 270 to and from the popular beaches was light, and we were lucky to spot Maui sticking up above the clouds. Very cool! An added plus for Gulch Farms was the public library across the street that had books for sale for $1.00, perfect for beach reading. Peggy was very attentive to our needs, even stocking the refrigerator with a jar of honey lemonade. We would definitely stay here again.
Quiet time in Kohala
My wife and I bounced around the Big Island for a couple weeks and this was our last place before we left. Loved it. Nice studio apartment with everything you need. Very private yard with a grill we used with our cocktails at night. This also was our favorite area. The town of Hawi had good restaurants, great coffee, great ice cream, wish we would have stayed longer and checked out more of this wonderful and friendly area. It also was close to some great beaches just a half hour through a scenic road with no traffic. Our host, Peggy, was so helpful and friendly. She also provided us with some produce from the farm. If we ever come back to the Big Island we would definetly stay here again.
Had a wonderful two weeks at Cozy Corner VRBO
It’s one week since we left Kapua Gulch Farms and we are still smiling and reminiscing about the great time we spent there. We’ve been to Hawaii and the Big Island many times but this was our first stay in a smaller community and on a farm. We loved it!! The cottage, the farm, and Peggy, the proprietor and hostess. The farm is delightful and Peggy generously shared time, fruits, and knowledge making our stay very meaningful, fun and personalized. The cottage is peaceful and quiet and just right for 2 people who enjoy each other’s company. The beautiful farm and yard promoted rest and relaxation with room for walking and exploring. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed Peggy, her international and local visitors, her dog Jackie and all the other farm animals, fresh fruits, honey, flowers and true Aloha spirit. Mahalo Peggy for memorable vacation.
