Why Gretchen Glasscock and Carla A. Salinas chose Fort Sam Houston

As lifetime San Antonians, with time out for life in New York City and San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, we wanted to come home to be part of our community and help build its future. We chose Alamo Heights, because of our deep roots near here and because, from our point of view, it is the crown jewel of San Antonio's diverse neighborhoods. When we bought the house, it was a small, simple artist's cottage in a wooded area, with lovely fruit trees, and boasting a small studio for painting. Over the years we have expanded the house and filled it with our curated treasures, art and antiques from here and abroad, giving it a unique and eclectic flavor, but , most of all, a sense of warmth and welcome to all. Along with that expansion came the development of our separate casita, and opening it to guests from many States and, indeed , around the world, from places like Taiwan and China, all of whom it has been our pleasure to welcome and assist with their explorations of our home town.

What makes this bungalow unique

What is truly unique about our home is its location in a one of a kind warm, friendly, beautiful and safe neighborhood, near the best of all that San Antonio offers, and the rich, welcoming ambiance we have been able to create here.

  • 5 of 5

Spent a total of 4 weeks. Great location, very nice accommodation, lovely deck and garden. Our hosts were extremely helpful and very gracious. Some of our family visited with us and we had masses to do in San Antonio. The missions, the Riverwalk, the Pearl District, San Antonio Art Museum. The Witte, McNay Museum and more. Blue Star, Williams Town .....lots of Art and plenty of music. A busy 4 weeks, make sure you hire a car for maximum entertainment value and to visit the heritage towns such as Fredericksburg, Boernie etc.

Vancouver tourists .....

Lovely place to call home during our San Antonio stay!

  • 5 of 5

This unit is very clean and well stocked. Plenty of room to spread out and TWO bathrooms! Bed was comfy and there was plenty of lighting. Outdoor spaces were great! We used the skillet every morning and enjoyed the supplied coffee. Owners also generously supplied local beer and some snacks, perfect for our 6:00pm arrival! Free parking and a great quiet location close to (driving) the best grocery store I’ve ever been in! Amazing wine selection :-)
