Relaxing vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

Charming cottage with everything we needed for a short stay. Lovely yard with nice places to sit for a glass of wine or morning coffee. The bed is very comfortable and plenty of towels available ( along with beach chairs, umbrella, etc - unfortunately we didn't go to the beach due to rain). Elinor is the perfect vacation property owner- available if you need her but otherwise gives her guests their privacy.

Lovely, quiet and secluded, yet near town

  • 5 of 5

Located in the backyard, the cottage very quiet and peaceful. The spacious studio has a picture window that looks out on a large butterfly bush that was often abuzz with butterflies. This makes a wonderful spot to relax after a day of roaming around the Hamptons.

Elinor is an attentive host, providing many of the essentials: beach equipment, dishes and silverware, a coffee maker, etc.

Amazing Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the cottage for the weekend, and had a great time. The cottage was fully appointed, comfortable, and in a great location. The interior of the cottage was beautiful, and had a relaxing, breezy, eastern vibe.

Downtown Sag Harbor was about a 15 minute walk, about 90% sidewalks/ped friendly from the cottage. Downtown Sag Harbor is best enjoyed on foot. For food in Sag Harbor, we loved the Beacon restaurant for sunsets and lobster rigatoni, Cavaniola's cheese shop, the Dock House for casual fried seafood platters, Harbor Market and Kitchen for wood-fired pizza and breakfast sandwiches, Jack's Stir Brew for coffee, Olaf's for ice cream, and Murf's for drinks.

Transportation logistics: we live in the city and don't own a car. There are Lyft's, Ubers, and local cabs to get around the south fork. We waited between 5-20 minutes for them, so plan ahead. Also, to get to any of the typical Hamptons spots (IE: Bridgehampton LIRR, Wolffer, the beach, etc..), it's around a 15 minute, or $30 cab ride. However, it's cheaper than renting a car, and we weren't residents so we couldn't have parked at the beach anyway. Most people in the Hamptons have a car, it's definitely recommended, but if you're stubborn walking city people like us, it's doable.

Ideal Location - Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed 3 nights in this lovely cottage. We enjoyed being within minutes of downtown Sag Harbor, but also loved the feeling of being secluded because of the beautiful grounds we were on which made coffee time in the morning and wine time in the eve so delightful.

Elinor greeted us with a warm welcome and then let us come and go with no worries thru out our stay.

It was a perfect 10!

Perfect weekend getaway for NYC couple

  • 4 of 5

- Sag Harbor is an amazing town with lots of local shops and restaurants in the main village, a very safe/quiet/beautiful surrounding community, and an easy drive to a variety of other attractions "out east" (Shelter Island, East Hampton, Southampton, etc.)

- Unit is in an excellent location (<5 minute drive into "town"), and parking was perfect (spot right outside the front door)

- We drove <15 minutes to a nearby public beach (Mecox, $25/day for parking) and it worked out perfectly (used the beach chairs, umbrella, and towels provided by the host)

- The unit itself is very cute and had everything we needed (french press coffee maker, soap/shampoo, milk/OJ, hair dryer, paper towels, beach supplies)

- Bed was comfortable (although would have liked a few more pillows), and bathroom was very nice (shower worked well)

- A/C worked really well, and it was an unusually hot summer weekend weather-wise for us

- Welcoming host (greeted us upon arrival; provided snacks in the unit), totally stayed out of our way during our stay, was okay communicating via text

- Walk to "town" is about 15-20 minutes, which for us (we walk a lot in NYC) was fine, but it also was a little unnerving to walk home after sunset with no sidewalk for the final 10-20%

- Struggled to get the WiFi working, and then when we were connected it wasn't great (went into town to do some work on our laptops from a coffee shop)

- Unit is certainly "private" (not connected to main house, door locks, windows have curtains, etc.), but you're literally in the backyard of the main house (~20 feet away)

- Really tough to get a cab or Uber (due to lack of supply); we waited 20 minutes for a cab one afternoon who "must have picked someone else up" (per the dispatcher) -- you definitely need to have a car to get around the area

Location

Car: recommended

The cottage is within walking distance of everything in the village and at the end of Division street is Provisions, a good place for breakfast and lunch.

Harbor Market has recently opened 2 blocks from the cottage, serving gourmet food, pizzas and breakfast.
