Description

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Pachino - Villa Torrefano

waterfront, 400 m2, sea view, high ceilings, Marzamemi, Portopalo, sandy beaches

Villa Torrefano is a catch. Stunning cliff-top location, aristocratic charm, huge indoor and outdoor spaces and a small price. Perfect for groups of friends and families who will enjoy every day a fabulous view over the Ionian Sea and the island “Capo Passero”, the most southern point of Italy.

6 bedrooms with high ceiling and all with a window and/or with a door that opens onto the terrace.

3 bathrooms, all renewed in December 2007.

A spacious kitchen with oven and dishwasher.

Plenty of space where to eat together and make yourself feel at home.

You will relax while in Villa Torrefano (we can even contact a cook who can prepare a dinner for you) and get excited by its surrounding. Two white sandy beaches distance only a couple of hundred meters. In the nearby fisherman’s village of Marzamemi you can have a taste of the Sicilian nightlife, during high season, or more simply a good bite in one of its restaurants and pizzerias. Do not forget to shop for delicious local products such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish! Are you into nature and nice walks? You will love the natural reserve of ‘Vendicari’ just 2 km away. Here you’ll find a remarkable variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, exotic beaches and Byzantine ruins. Do you prefer cities and admiring their architectures? The baroque towns of Syracuse, Noto and Ragusa Ibla, all UNESCO World Heritage and within an easy drive, will take your breath away.

About Giulia Lattanzio / Lenneke Burghouts

“We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best. Houses with quality furnishing on unique locations, with incredible views or with a pool, always accurately selected in order to satisfy our main wish: to see you falling in love with Sicily just like we did.

We quickly reply in the language you feel more comfortable with. We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We advise you as much as we can about about travel info, transfers and car rental. Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Once in the house you can always count on our reliable keyholders. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is often possible. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs.”

Not a great place to stay. Facilities very poor.

  • 2 of 5

Our group of 13 people was not impressed with the facilities of the villa. There was no electric toaster, no microwave. It is an very old building which needs some attention. The drive entrance is bad and needs to be tarmac or concreted.

The overall stay has been fairly good. We had variable weather rain and sunshine during our stay in Portopalo. The town of Portopalo is drab and rundown.

Do not stay herr

  • 1 of 5

Within the first 24hours we were robbed. We were away at the beach and came back to the villa only to discover that someone had got into the villa and took all our luggage and valuables. There was no forced entry which means either someone had a key or picked the lock. I feel strongly though that someone had a key. There are care takers on the property and I'm starting to wonder if it was one of them.

If it wasn't one of them then the other issue is that it is not very well secured. The front gate to the property is always left open so anyone can just walk onto the property from the street below.

Good luck if you want to stay here.

We won't be coming back.

Owner's Response: I am really sorry about what happened to these guests, but we cannot accept to let them insinuate that our caretaker, (there is only one), who have been working for the villa and with us for 10 years, has something to do with it. No one has ever been robbed before in this property. Thieves nowadays can enter a property without forcing anything. I have verified this. I understand the anger and disappointment for the experience, but it cannot be addressed to the villa itself.

Een zeer boeiende oude villa

  • 5 of 5

This villa is amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the villa in July 2010, two families of 4 people each, one family from Canada, the other from Czech Republic. The villa is so spacious, one more family would fit in easily. The villa itself is absolutelly amazing, feels so magical! The porch seating area is so pleasant and the view is to kill for, it was hard to go to sleep, it was so relaxing. We walked to Portopalo for dinner several times, it was a short walk. We loved the place, the music, the food, very relaxing. We drove to Marzamemi several times, such a beautifull place, loved every moment, the restaurants, the shops, the walks. We made a day trip to Syracuse, wow, one of the most beautifull places I have ever visited. We do travel a lot, we have visited many places, this villa and this area is one of the best, unspoiled, relaxing, amazing. This villa exceeded our expectations!

Absolutely stunning location

  • 5 of 5

The Villa Torrefano is in an absolutely amazing clifftop position overlooking the sea with views towards a fort-topped island. The house itself is very spacious and has a large terrace. The caretaker was very helpful. The only small complaint we had was that, for a villa sleeping so many, it was a little lacking in kitchen equipment. Everything else was fantastic though!

Villa Torrefano

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Villa Torrefano was by far the highlight of our two week family vacation in Italy. There was more than enough space for all eight of us in the enormous rooms with 15+ foot ceilings and lovely tiled floors. My room opened up onto a veranda overlooking the lovely jewel-toned sea. The key holders were charming and extremely helpful. The many nearby towns and cities makes Portopalo the perfect serene base camp from which to take day trips. The only problem was that we didn't know beforehand that we should have planned to stay longer. We will certainly try to come back.

At the south-eastern tip of Sicily, you find a fishing village called Portopalo. Taking the road from Marzamemi to Portopalo, but turning off before an impressive castle on the sea, one can turn left and visit the old Tonnara, a scenic and extraordinary sight. 4 km away from Marzamemi, an ancient and very picturesque fishing village with a small port and vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Only recently has it become a popular destination for Italians who enjoy the combination of the area’s natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village that boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish or the famous cherry tomatoes from nearby Pachino. San Lorenzo, 2 km up north, marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast: the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches and turquoise seas.
