The apartment is perfectly suited for one or two people, with a kitchenette (small refrig., microwave, coffee and tea) and several storage shelves (made by Igor!) that are strong enough to hold even my stuff, comfy bed and nice bath. The location couldn't be better. It's in a 1400's building that is less than 10 minutes walk to either the Pantheon or Campo dei Fiori, next door to the former Jewish ghetto with its many great restaurants, and near the tram that gets you to Trastevere or Termini stations, along with other bus lines to get around the city when you're tired of walking. Igor is a fabulous host who offers tips on what to see and eat, provides guide books if you'd rather figure it out on your own, and is available for any questions or suggestions for anything you want to do. There's a grocery store nearby and the morning market at Campo dei Fiori are available if you want to eat in. It was perfect for me and I'd happily stay here again or recommend it to friends. Thanks, Igor!

A brilliant find in the heart of Rome

  • 5 of 5

From the moment Igor contacted us we knew we had made the right choice for our three night stay in Rome. He arranged efficient transfers from the airport on arrival and for our return. Was there to welcome us on arrival at the apartment- even though it was late evening, to explain where everything was and offer us advice on places to visits, eat etc. The wine chilling in the fridge was extremely welcome! Igor gave us his phone number in case we needed anything during our stay and was contactable via WhatsApp or text. The accommodation was exceptional, so clean and fresh we felt like we were the first visitors. The bed was clean and comfortable, plenty of fresh white towels, hot water, basic kitchen equipment and a rail with hangers for our clothes- everything we needed. The location of the lovely building was perfect, easy walking distance from all the attractions and areas. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by or the night life of Trastevere and Campo de Fiori a few minutes walk away.

We absolutely loved our stay and hope to return. Thank you Igor- you could not have been a better host, it was a pleasure to meet you.

Kind Regards Heather and Phil

For our budget and ability to walk or the use of public transportation, we could have not found a better place in Rome. The Rabbit Hole was a great choice. Igor was incredibly helpful and sincere in his willingness to be available with questions or tips.

Initially we only booked the rabbit hole because the location looked good and anything else was a bonus. In the end it was absolutely perfect in every way. Walking distance to everything, a lovely room with good AC, very clean and stylishly decorated. Also Igor the owner was so friendly and incredibly helpful, he gave us loads of great recommendations which helped us make the most of our visit to Rome. We will definitely come back to Rome one day and when we do we'll be staying at the Rabbit Hole again!

If you visit is to generally enjoy all the major sites (Vatican, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, P. Navona, Trastevere, etc), then you want to be either in the Historic Centre, or, to save a little money or have a little more space, just outside it.

The Historic Centre is the area in the centre of Rome that holds 90% of the significant tourist sites. It is called the Historic Centre (Centro Storico), because it is the area that has been inhabited, almost without a break, for over 2000 years. Buildings and sites are generally dated between 2000 and 300 years old.

Just outside the historic centre, is the more 20th Century Rome. This area, on the edge of the Historic Centre, is where most buildings are between 40-100 Years old.

However, many people contend that accommodation in the very centre is both a key part of their enjoyment of Rome, and avoids any travel time.

What areas comprise the Historic Centre. Trastevere, Campo dei Fiori, P. Navona, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Trevi, Portico. (Also the Vatican city is contiguous with …)

Getting around Rome…. Once you are in the centre, the best way to get around is on foot. There are a few reasons for this. The first is that transport is limited to a few buses on a few main roads that form a “cross” through this area. This means you will probably have to walk further to a bus stop than the next place

And the overriding reason for going on foot is that there is so much of Rome that is not in the guide books, or on any information sheet, that can be discovered and explored anew. This is, for those who love Rome, the greatest asset of the city.

If you organise yourself, you can very easily go from site to site with only a short walk (i.e., don’t do Vatican, then Colosseum, then Villa Borghese…)

With organisation, the main sites can all be walked with an average of 300 metres between them.

If you do need to do one side to the other, buses will take you there without too much difficulty.

The Rome metro is an option, but it is not very useful except getting from Termini, to the Vatican (one extreme to the other) as it doesn’t go through the heart of the city and only stops otherwise at the Spanish Steps and the Colosseum (of the major sites), and these are on different lines.

The metro is excellent if you are staying in the suburbs. This can be a quick way into the centre of Rome.

Typically Visitors “Must See” :

* Vatican

* Castel St Angelo

* Via Giulia

* Spanish Steps

* Villa Borghese

* Trevi Fountain

* Piazza Navona

* Trastevere

* Campo dei Fiori

* Roman Forum

* Colosseum

* Pantheon

The city is a very lively place, at all times of the year, and most times of the day and night. It is a wonderful place to be, and so there are many people “being” there. They come for the charm amid chaos. As it has been throughout most of history.

But Rome is more than just incredible history – it is this history set amongst everyday modern life that makes it fascinating and chaotic and enchanting – being amongst “it” is an experience in itself.
