Private CITY Retreat in Magnolia
Why Lauren chose Magnolia
This cottage is warmly decorated with mostly original artwork and photography. It is private, clean, and walk friendly. It is quiet yet offers close proximity to many tourist attractions in the Seattle area. This is a warm and cozy house built during WWII! According to an article in by Duane Colt Denfeld, Ph.D., "The war brought new construction and increased activity. Temporary wood-frame buildings, 450 of them, were built to house troops awaiting transportation or those returning from overseas. On May 22, 1941, the post became a Port of Embarkation, processing the transport and return of soldiers to the Pacific Theater and Alaska. Fort Lawton processed 793,000 for embarkation and 618,000 debarkations or returnees. Also, fort personnel processed and shipped 5,000 Italian detainees to Hawaii. Fort Lawton served as a Prisoner of War (POW) camp for 1,100 German POWs. In addition to the German POWs there was an Italian Service Units (ISU) compound." Explore the Park across the street!

Thanksgiving in Magnolia
Great cottage in a great location for our small family Thanksgiving! We found everything we needed for our Thanksgiving dinner, from a roasting pan to special dinnerware to linen napkins! Nice little front and back outdoor sitting options to follow the sun, amazing walks in Discovery Park right around the corner. Our host allowed an early check-in so our young adult kids could do the grocery run before picking us up at the airport - VERY much appreciated!
Thank you for staying with us Denise! We truly appreciated your care of our cottage! So glad you were able to enjoy the beautiful Discovery Park and its natural beauty!
We would be delighted to host your family again in the future!
Quaint and cozy cottage
We loved our stay in this home. It was a comfortable size for our family of three. Bed was cozy, water pressure was strong, and the kitchen had everything we needed. There’s a little patio in the front with a prime view of the sunrise, and a larger deck in the back where our toddler explores the garden and watched the birds. It’s a quiet neighborhood, with some really gorgeous homes to admire around. There’s an amazing market just a quick walk away and a beautiful, huge park right around the corner. The owner was very easy to talk to and a super gracious host that saw to little details to make us feel at home. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
Thank you kindly for staying with us Katie! So glad you enjoyed our quiet corner of Seattle! Hopefully u saw the Blue jays n Rufus hummingbirds! Ospreys n eagles have been flying by lately!
Fall is an amazing time around Discovery Park as witnessed in the changing of the tree leaves in Discovery Park and the salmon run return along the locks!
We'll welcome you back anytime!

Cozy, well stocked writer's retreat
I needed a well-appointed place to get some work done before a conference and this place was perfect. The fully stocked kitchen made cooking a breeze. There is a great grocery a close walk away. Instructions were super clear, and decor was thoughtful and personable.

I had a very pleasant stay and it was a very good location. The beds were very comfortable. The freshly baked cookies, granola, coffee and milk were very nice!

Cute cottage in magnoila
The house was just as described in a quiet neighborhood next to discovery park. Lauren came and salted the steps for us when it snowed. The beds were comfy and all info we needed was laid out for us in a binder. It was a great place for us to stay close to family for christmas but also have our own private space. The check out process was easy and great to have a keypad lock to make arrival easy to coordinate. I would stay here again.
Our home is less than 5 min to the public bus stop where you can take the bus to downtown Seattle. From downtown, you connect with the train services heading Northsound or Southsound. You can also rent a bicycle and cycle through the city's various bike trails!
