Not the best
Myself and two others stayed in the Albert house for 8 days. We got the keys from the office (they were very kind and allowed us an early check in). We asked for help locating the apartment and were very vague instructions (including a mention that the photograph included in an email was inaccurate) and hurried out. When we finally arrived, we were unable to find the proper building. FYI, the name "Albert House" is NOWHERE to be found. It is Royal Connaught Apartments. After trying every door in the area with the given key, to no success, we called. We were told we'd be called back by the property manager. After finally figuring out the doors required the use of a key fob to open (the instructions specifically say two keys would be given, one for the outer door and one for the inner, and we were very jet lagged and sleep deprived), we finally made it inside. 1.5 hr later, our phone call was finally returned. Imagine if we had been waiting in the rain that whole time...
This apt is in ZONE 3. The paperwork says it's 2/3 depending on lord knows what. We purchased oyster cards for zones 1 and 2, and were unable to use them at the nearby DLR station. It takes a minimum of 45 minutes to get anywhere. This wasn't a major issue, I just wish it had been made clear to avoid problems.
Upon entering, there is a distinct odor. I still can't place it, but it's very musty and strong, and seems to come from the bathroom. We left windows open the whole time, and it never dissipated. The cleanliness of the apt was very questionable. My feet were dirty within minutes of entering. Things were neat, but certainly not clean. The blinds, in particular, were so dirty, we didn't want to touch them. The toilet seat does not fit the bowl.
Very little is provided. As we stayed for 8 days, one set of towels and sheets, and two rolls of toilet paper seemed inadequate. There is a washing machine, but no dryer, so washing stuff wasn't a solution, as things would never dry in time.
Customer service left a lot to be desired. I emailed about WiFi access, and was rudely reminded of the documents sent which say to plug in with an Ethernet cable, "Otherwise, the router settings are as follows:-" with no further instructions. Once we hooked up, the WiFi was very slow. There is reference to a black binder with a lot of info, which we could not locate.
Overall, I would not recommend. Beds were comfy, and DLR is close, but that's about it for positives.
Apartment is good but the wifi was not stable
Good accommodation but we did not enjoy the internet as we wanted even when the property representative came unable to get it stable for us to use.
Property managers were very kind and helpful. Quick to respond to questions and very courteous
Beautiful and convenient. Distance from the airport is a big plus
Could be great
We enjoyed our stay at this little apartment. The beds were comfortable and the show/tub was perfect.
With a little more consideration this could be five stars.
1) I would have liked to know this apartment was in zone 3. It may not have changed my decision to stay. But I would have been making an informed decision.
2) Arriving to 3/4 roll of toilet paper after a 6.5 hour flight is unfortunate.
3) It’s also unfortunate not to be provided with basics like salt, pepper and a little cooking oil.
I understand this is a short term rental. But I have traveled exclusively using VRBO for the last 5-6 years. I thought perhaps it was the way things were done in the UK but after staying in 3 more short term rentals on this holiday I found this is not the case. Each of these provided more than enough toilet paper, spices for cooking, tea, coffee, etc.
4) The apartment also could have used a more thorough cleaning. Our socks were gray after walking over the floor until we vacuumed ourselves.
5) For any rental very sturdy chairs are needed. My friend is tiny and even she couldn’t sit on the chairs comfortably or without causing breakage.
These are all relatively minor issues. And if rectified, this is an excellent London option. A 10 minute walk to theDLR station and the bus is just outside the door, making it easy to get around.
a few issues caused by a new cleaning lady that were rectify as soon as was possible. Especially the Toilet paper !! cannot believe she forgot to add such an essential.
spices and the sort: so difficult to find a medium ground here.
Most people like to find such items … some others do not and dispose of everything.
So what we normally do is to leave such items between bookings for the guests to decide what to do expecting that if you want your own brand new ones you would organise the older ones to move back in the cupboards but if the previous clients decide to dispose of everything …..
Ottima soluzione per visitare Londra ! Tutto OK e ben servito dai mezzi pubblici !
Ho soggiornato con la famiglia (io, mia moglie e i nostri 2 figli) nell'appartamento dal 22/12/17 al 31/12/17. All'interno dell'appartamento era tutto come descritto nell'annuncio e tutto funzionante.
flat location etc
great location for DLR to get to center on London, flat it's self was OK but had problems which toke a week to fix, Office staff helpful but did not check on repairs whilst we were there , the main problem was cold hot water, was cold all week, no offer of rate reduct for the fact that we had cold showers every day. was fixed the night before we left and was hot for ten minutes. But enjoyed our stay in London
We confirm with this review that the traveler did state he had a hot water issue but only after a few days 29/3/17 . Holiday period was Saturday 25/03/17 to Saturday 01/04/17).
We also acknowledge that we would have been more than happy to provide a reduction had we found evidence to support the claim regarding the hot water issue.
Both the contractor and myself visited the flat. The contractor said that it may have been because the boiler hot water knob was set quite low and the contractor just turned the knob up to a hotter setting on the boiler.
Subsequent to the contractor visiting, the traveler mentioned again that the hot water did not work.
I went myself thereafer and tried the hot water (just after the traveler had left as I had not had time during his stay). Boiling (actually I had the opposite issue which was I could not get enough cold water to mix) and assumed that the guest just failed to turn on one of the required switches for hot water (directly outside the door to the shower and in the kitchen as a spur switch which controls the boiler).
The next guest went in and did not complain about the hot water.
Nonetheless, by that time things were already running their course and by the end of the next guests stay, we changed the whole shower unit. No complaints since then but obviously monitoring the situation.
Thank you for your review.
Excel, City Airport
Connections to London could not be easier. The traveller has a number of choices in terms of how to get in. While London City Airport DLR is a five minute walk from the apartment and gets you in 8 minutes to Canary Wharf or 15 minutes to Bank Tube Station. There are many buses as well as a British Rail Line which also connect into Central London.
Closest important infrastructure would be the Excel Centre Complex with its myriads of restaurants as well as nearby Canary Wharf while the nearest museums and sites of interest would be the Royal Arsenal Gunnery Museum, Greenwich Royal Observatory, Greenwich Maritime Museum, the Docklands Museum and of course the Tower of London.
