Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed, 1 Full Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

This eclectic, colorful dwelling is a fantastic blend of warmth and imagination. Beauty and comfort are found in the local art, rustic wooden tables, silk pillow covers, velvet and linen curtains, the fine leather couch and hand-hewn log king bed. Partly luxurious and well-appointed, partly rustic and surprising, Carmen's Suite creates space for what inspires you.

Whatever you do during your stay, you will surely feel the graciousness and harmony when you come home to relax or work. You can cook on the outdoor grill, exercise in our fitness room, swim in the outdoor pool, or simply enjoy your own comfortable realm.

They say that Old Mesilla is the place where time stands still and it is true. Explore the historic neighborhoods, and walk along the Rio Grande irrigation canals and imagine what it was like at this crossroads a century and more ago.

Las Cruces was the half-way point for travelers on the westward trek from San Antonio to San Diego, as well as southward bound from Santa Fe to Chihuahua. Today it is a lo-rise university town, home to 90,000 warm-hearted souls and surrounded by big southwestern skies and vistas. Nearby museums and art galleries, unusual shops and restaurants are wonderful and welcoming.

The truly unusual and spectacular White Sands National Monument is less than an hour away, as are many other areas for explorations, picnics, hikes, views, sunrises, sunsets, and just relaxing. The Organ Mountains on the eastern edge of the city are always offering their grandeur to all, while reflecting color and light distinctively on our warm community.

We welcome you to come stay for a few nights, weeks or months and invite you to enjoy this unique, gracious abode whenever and for whatever reason you come to Las Cruces.

About Mesilla Abodes

This photo was taken after lunch at Peppers Cafe at the Double Eagle on the Old Mesilla Plaza. From left to right we are: Teresa, on-site manager; Gail, owner; Yoly, housekeeping; and Amy, reservation and service manager. Gail's favorite part of traveling is getting to know what is special about a place and how life is lived there. There is a particular blend of old-world Mexican and the rural wild west here in Mesilla-Las Cruces that intrigues and informs... and keeps calling us back.

Why Mesilla Abodes chose New Mexico

Southwest New Mexico is a unique part of paradise. Las Cruces and Old Mesilla have a distinctive history in an uncommon environment. Here are desert and mountains, wide open vistas and sunny skies. The sunrise and sunset are equally beautiful and the air is clean and refreshing. We feel happy and at ease in this warm, friendly community. Mesilla Abodes is both convenient and quiet. Just on the border of Old Mesilla with Las Cruces, access is easy from I-10 and to all points in both towns. Also our beautifully landscaped complex has its own tranquil and appealing atmosphere.

Notes:
Eclectic fine quality furnishings and finishings. Full bathtub. Hair dryer provided. Well-appointed fitness room and outdoor swimming pool. Tranquil, healing environment with healthy food staples and natural cleaning products. The fireplace in the living room is not real. There is no fire - not wood, not gas, not even electric. We're sad too, still it is a nice decorative feature in the corner. The suite is located on the second floor - straight stairs only.

good facility marred by inappropriate management.

  • 1 of 5

Good clean facility. Our stay was marred by failure of the heating system, and especially by the very high security deposit, which management did not return on time. Also, the owner imposes a "fee" (actually a fine) of $50 for failure to turn heat off on leaving. Cannot recommend this property--zero stars.

Owner's Response: We respect and care deeply about our guests, their experiences, and opinions. Our well-maintained heating system did have a problem and we attended to it as quickly as possible by bringing in a portable heater and having the service company come right away. This guest’s written response was: “All fixed for now…. By the way, Teresa is a treasure!” Any concern regarding the amount of the reservation/damage deposit was not mentioned during the reservation process or rental. The guest brought it up as an issue a week after departure. The unusual confluence of year-end holidays, illness, and a champagne glass broken by the guest did result in the return of their full reservation deposit some hours after the date specified in our rental agreement. We communicated with them about this several times in the process and still sincerely regret the delay. We are taking to heart the feedback about our rental agreement point specifying a possible charge for heat/ac left on at departure. While we have never charged anyone, we have noticed that guests are more considerate since we included it in our rental agreement. We had very cordial interactions with these guests both before and throughout their stay. On the eve of their departure they emailed: “Everything has been great”. We can’t really ask for more than that.

Comfortable and great location

  • 5 of 5

A better value than any of the local hotels with a much homier feeling. The location is handy to Mesilla Plaza and downtown Las Cruces. Carmen's Suite is beautifully appointed, clean and has everything you need to help make your time in Las Cruces enjoyable. The grounds are well maintained and we highly recommend this property. Amy and Teresa were great to work with and we hope to stay again in the future. Drinks on the balcony with Organ Mountain sunset views can't be matched!
