About the property

This Overlook House, 3BR 2BA w/futon; adjacent Stagecoach House, 2BR 1BA w/futon

This comfortable home offers a great location on a quiet country road and is conveniently situated between two major entrances of the beautiful and majestic Yosemite National Park. The Merced River is only minutes away and leads the way on the 35 mile scenic drive from this home to the Arch Rock Entrance. The alternate route to the park, approximately a 45 mile drive, will take you past the Mariposa Groves where you'll see the Giant Sequoias, the Badger Pass Ski Area, and other attractions. It's an easy day trip to make through one entrance, taking in scenes and points of interest through the park, out the other entrance, and back home with plenty of time to still enjoy a home cooked meal.

There is plenty to see and do in the area, and the quaint historic town of Mariposa serves as a perfect host to the traveling adventurist. There is a wonderful visitors' center that features information that is sure to fulfill all of the curious inquiries of the most adventurous travelers. Mariposa is rich in history and is home to the oldest courthouse still in operation west of the Mississippi. The California State Mining Museum is only a few miles away from this house and boasts some of the most impressive mining treasures ever found in the state of California. Take a short ride to the historic town of Mariposa, where you'll find museums, fine dining, antique shops, and other attractions. Mariposa features a wonderful grocery store that has fresh seafood, sushi, fine wines, fresh produce, and all the fixings to prepare a great meal.

Bring your kayak and go for a whitewater adventure in beautiful Yosemite. Or, take a guided tour with one of the many adventure guides such as Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions. Their launchsite is a scenic drive only 45 minutes up the road along the Merced River Valley Canyon, on Route 140. For more information, call 800-431-3636, and ask about the Merced River whitewater tours.

Yosemite Zipline Adventures is another fun thing to take advantage of, right in our town of Mariposa. They're located about 5 miles away in the other direction on HW 140. For more information, call 209-742-4844.

Rafts are available to rent in the Park during summer months. Bicycles are for rent at a great price. There are many great ways to experience Yosemite, and the town of Mariposa is a great place to start from! This home will serve as a great base for your vacation adventure.

At an elevation of 2600 ft, it's a pleasure to relax on the porch and breathe the fresh mountain air. Sip a glass of wine from one of the local wineries and enjoy a freshly prepared meal from the well-equipped kitchen. Take in the scenes of the wildlife such as deer, wild turkeys, and birds of many varieties.

The bedrooms are situated on opposite ends of the house. The master bedroom has an adjoining full bathroom with a soaking tub to relax those sore muscles in. There also is another full bathroom on the other side of the house to accommodate the second and third bedrooms.

The covered porch overlooks a small valley with peach and other fruit trees adding to the country ambiance. Enjoy breakfast on the porch with the country view and serenity. Grill some fresh seafood or great steaks on the charcoal grill. The local grocery store carries fresh oysters, premium meats, fresh produce, fine wines, and everything you'll need for that gourmet meal.

About Sherry Nohava

My husband, Tom, and I have been married for 37 years. We love to entertain and to meet new people. That is why we are drawn to the vacation rental business. This is a dream we have followed for our married lives, and now we are excited to make it happen.

I am a retired AT&T technician and Tom is a retired contractor. We both love animals. Right now we only have one cat who 'owns' the house in Mariposa. She is primarily an outdoor cat and lives a very independent life. She is a great hunter and reigns as the chief of critter patrol on the property. She is extremely affectionate and would be happy to let you scratch her ears if you should be so inclined!

Sherry Nohava purchased this house in 2007

Why Sherry Nohava chose California

Yosemite National Park is one of our favorite places on earth. I love waterfalls and Yosemite offers some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.

Mariposa is a quaint town with a lot of nostalgia. We love the fresh mountain air, the snow-capped mountains surrounding our valley, the friendly people, the boutiques and antique shops in the town, and the fine dining offered both in Mariposa and at the Park.

We enjoy seeing all kinds of wildlife at our property. When we go there, we feel totally removed from the stress of the city life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay here! Very cozy and relaxing. We loved the location and visited Mariposa and Yosemite Park. It was fun sitting on the porch in the evening having wine and cheese! The starry nights are amazing here! Thank you so much for everything!

Best trip yet!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I went to Yosemite for my 25th birthday and it was amazing! We found this cute home and rented for a great price! We loved where we stayed so much. Everything was close by and the house was so accommodating. The area was so peaceful and don't get me started on the view. The beds were so comfy and the nice open kitchen. What helped make the trip was the karaoke and the games located in hall way and under t.v. I will defiantly be back soon and will highly recommend to everyone..

Great time. We enjoyed the house and Mariposa

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed staying at the house for two days. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. Our two Basset hounds enjoyed the walks in the country. Very quit at peaceful at night. The town of Mariposa was a lot of fun to explore with lots of old time shops and good eating places. My family would stay here again.

Good Yosemite Base

  • 4 of 5

This house is a good home base for visiting Yosemite and area. The house is clean, quiet and well equipped and plenty roomy enough for our party of four. It's on a large rural lot but not remote - lots of neighboring houses and a five to ten minute drive to the town of Mariposa, another hour or so to the Yosemite Park gate.

Lots of wildlife easily visible from the covered porch. We saw deer, wild turkeys and quail, but our favorite animal was Maude the cat. She was very friendly and faithfully greeted us each time we drove up after a day's outing.

The owners are most helpful and very easy to deal with. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great place for Yosemite explorations

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for four nights during September 2013. The house is very comfy and well-equiped. We found everything we needed from information about the Yosemite area to spices in the kitchen. We loved to sit outside and watch the deer by dawn. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the house and our welcoming committee was doing their job! They've been enjoying the peaches off of the tree, but I'm sorry they didn't leave you any. The peaches were awesome this year. Thanks for a nice review and it was our pleasure having you. We hope you'll come again!

Very nice stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal base for our day trip to Yosemite over the labor day weekend. The home was very clean, well stocked and pretty much exactly as described. It was great to be just a 10-15 min drive from downtown Mariposa. The kids loved the swing outside. We enjoyed chatting out at the deck and the night sky was simply spectacular. Sherry was very easy to work with too. I would most certainly recommend this place to friends/family.

Unforgettable experience

  • 5 of 5

This was very unforgettable experience we have in Mariposa, in this house.

One deer stood in front of the house welcomed us when we arrived. What a big surprise to us!!! Children were very exciting playing in the ground, looking for the squirrels, birds, etc. The most unforgettable experience was the beautiful star sky in the midnight and also the sunset in the afternoon.

The house have everything we needed and was very clean, comfortable. The facilities in kitchen was very complete and we made Chinese food for our dinners.

The property was very close to Mariposa. It's also close to Yosemite, and between the waterfalls and the redwoods and the incredible views, The guidance provide by the owner, Sherry, was very detailed. Sherry was also vey kind and helpful when I left my clothes in the house.

Everything here is so perfect that We will definitely stay at the same house again if we have any chance in the future. And we will stay some more days to enjoy this quiet, beautiful place.
