The apartment sleeps up to 4 adults on a Queen size bed with luxury Serta Beautyrest pillow-top mattress in the bedroom and queen size sleeper sofa in the living room with 5” memory foam mattress. See Amenities section for more information on what is provided in the apartment.

Maps, guidebooks and a list of our favorite NYC spots are available in the apartment but feel free to ask us for any personalized recommendations.

Why is renting our apartment different from most other short-term rentals in NYC?

1. Peace of mind - we can legally rent our apartment as a short-term vacation rental because our house is a 2-family private dwelling. Apartments in buildings that contain 3 or more apartments cannot be legally rented on a short-term basis (30 days or less) in NYC.

2. We live on the property. While the apartment is a separate unit with a private entrance, we live upstairs. If you have any questions, concerns or issues, we can address it right away and most of the time, in person.

3. We provide all of our guests with an information packet with valuable neighborhood and NYC information and can assist with any requests they may have.

4. We love to travel and know what is important to our guests. We professionally clean our apartment between guests and make sure everything possible is provided for our guests comfort.

We hope you will enjoy our city and apartment!

Dining and Shopping : We are located in a prime area of central Harlem on West 127 St. between 5th & Lenox Avenues just 2 short blocks from the 125 St. retail/business district. Famous Sylvia’s soul food restaurant is literally around the corner. Down the block is one of the hottest restaurants in NYC, Red Rooster, owned by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelson and the venue for President Obama’s fundraisers. Chez Lucienne, a friendly neighborhood bistro is on the same block. Corner Social, a casual bar & restaurant features a lively atmosphere. The newest restaurant options are Babbaluci, a delicious brick oven pizza restaurant and Yuzu, a traditional sushi restaurant where it's all about the delicious, fresh fish! If a sit down dinner is not an option, there are endless choices including the many local delis or Soul Food Buffet & Salad Bars. For those of you that want to prepare your own meals, Olive Market, a gourmet market, & Pioneer are only 3 blocks away. Retail shopping on 125 St. includes Marshall’s (Designer/Brand name discounter) , H&M, DSW Shoe Outlet, Old Navy, American Apparel, Gap Outlet, Nine West Outlet, Body Shop, & Footlocker/House of Hoops.

Arts & Culture: Culture abounds in Harlem. Just within a 5 minute walking radius, we have so much to offer:

Amazing place....amazing people!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in Harlem for our first trip to New York. Our friends thought we were crazy for staying in Harlem but this is NOT the Harlem portrayed in the 1970's movies! First of all, the brownstone/apartment was fantastic. It was extremely clean and very well stocked with all the basics. Michael and Sandy were beyond accommodating with information about New York (especially the subways)! They were always a text away when we had questions. Second, the location is the best! We are walkers so having to walk anywhere was an adventure but having the subway around the corner was super convenient. Even being out at night didn't worry us! Third, the food of Harlem and New York is the best. Make sure to get a chocolate chip cookie at Levain's!

There are so many positives of New York. We can't wait to go back. We'll definitely be staying with Michael and Sandy again.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I loved everything about this apartment. The Harlem location was loaded with great restaurants and atmosphere. The subway was close which allowed to visit other parts of New York.

The apartment had everything we needed in case we wanted to cook. It was comfortable for when we wanted to rest. The bed and linens were top quality.

Our hosts were friendly and willing to help us with anything we needed.

We had a great experience and highly reccomend this apartment.

Stay In New York You Won't Be Disappointed

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in New York and we tried a whole new experience. We went through some culture shock - living in Indiana suburbia is not living in a Harlem Brownstone with no wheels. It was great and had a blast! We need to go back - our short two day, three night stay was not long enough.

Michael and Sandy were excellent owners always quickly contacting us when we had any questions. Sandy met us bringing a freshly laundered bed spread to the apartment when we arrived. I think she could tell we had the "deer in the headlights" look. She was the perfect hostess and made us feel welcome - answered subway questions, providing maps and information. She offered some suggestions on local restaurants, stores and groceries. Later, she dropped off some extra towels, wine and fruit - how nice is that!!!

The apartment was just as described - it was Very clean and well maintained. It was really nice - very affordable, comfortable and with a great location. We ate breakfast in the apartment plus minor cooking otherwise. The first night we ventured out to Lenox Ave - a half block away. Lenox Ave is busy and bustling, like NY is supposed to be. As we soaked up some local culture - we stopped for happy hour at Cheri, which was wonderful. Then to Sottocasa, for some carry out pizza, but the owners were so nice they convinced us to stay – so we did. We loved the wine and pizza! On our way back to the apartment we bought our 7 day subway tickets and stopped at grocery for some supplies.

Here are some of our NYC highlights: cramming into a subway car during rush hour to get to the 10:30 Pedestal tour at the Statute of Liberty (must buy tickets in advance). Going to Ellis Island. Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. Peeling one of us off interior side of the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. Going to Macy's on 34th Street. Seeing the lights in Time Square and getting Junior’s Cheesecake there. Riding the Statin Island Ferry at night. Rushing to see a glimpse of the gardens at Central Park. Finally – meeting a lot of friendly New Yorkers! We got lots of great assistance and advice along the way, starting with the homeowners Michael and Sandy.

Wonderful stay in Harlem!

  • 5 of 5

Michael and Sandy are a lovely couple and they are also lovely hosts. The apartment was immaculate and they even welcomed us with a beautiful bottle of wine and big fruit bowl! Thanks so much!

They were gracious enough to allow our daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, to spend a couple of nights with us. Birthdays were the theme as our daughter was celebrating hers and Sandy was also! A fun coincidence.

The location of their place is ideal and surrounded by wonderful places to eat and just steps away from subway lines. (It took us 8 minutes, door to door, from mid-town!) We would chose to stay again at Michael and Sandy's apartment whenever we are back in NYC.

Thanks again!!

A great property close to subway, restaurants, local shops with good kitchen facilities.

  • 5 of 5

A great location to see NYC from. We are a family of three, with a young daughter. Good location with good kitchen facilities means we were able to have breakfast each day before heading out to explore.

A local shop up the road had great and a wide variety of selections, for nights when we wanted to dine at home.

Great restaurants nearby such as Sylvias and Babbalucci were also a good place for an evening meal.

Sandy gave us a quick run down on where everything was and we headed out on the subway each day to explore.

Very accommodating hosts, we were able to drop out bags off early and had some game tickets delivered prior to our arrival.

Would highly recommend.

Great apartment in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect for my wife and I's trip to the Big Apple. We looked over various hotels in Times Square and the surrounding area but everything was way overpriced. We thought we would look for a rental. We stumbled on Michael and Sandy's Harlem apartment and the price point was perfect. The reviews were great so we decided to book. We were a bit apprehensive to book something in Harlem, due to our lack of knowledge of the area and concerns for safety. Our concerns turned out to be unwarranted. The area was very nice and safe. The proximity to great restaurants could not have been better. The subway was very close(3 min walk) so we could hop on the 2,3 trains into Times Square or Central Park in no time (10-15 min). It was much nicer not having to deal with the larger crowds where we were staying. The apartment was very clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and we felt it was the perfect choice for us. Michael and Sandy were always quick to respond by email before and after the booking process with any questions we had. I would recommend this apartment to others seeking something outside the normal touristy hotels. The savings alone was great. We will be back.
