Artistes Tresor - beautiful village apartment with terrace and view over the sea

Bedrooms 3
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Nice Area - Artistes Tresor + up to six

Old town apartment near the beach, 2 beds, big terrace and view over the sea .

'Artistes Tresor' is a beautiful apartment in the heart of the old town with a large terrace and breathtaking sea view over the whole bay of Villefranche Sur Mer. Being in the best location in town makes it the perfect setting for a wonderful holiday. Enter the doorway of the house built in the 16th century and be uplifted by the view that is truly unforgettable. The local agent described the apartment, renovated by the artist owner, as 'giving the feeling of being in another poetic world'. Our guests return time and time again. Discover all that VIllefranche has to offer moments away. Great restaurants, the beach and sea a few minutes walk away and the village full of history and charm. The local shops are on the doorstep. With its micro-climate it is perfect here all year round. Without doubt this is one of the worlds most romantic and beautiful locations, within easy access of Nice airport. This is an old village apartment designed for comfort for all the family. Join us soon!

All Year Round: The location is perfect for a holiday any time of the year as the area has so much to offer and Villefranche benefits from a micro climate. Rue Obscure, which is one of the oldest streets in France runs under the apartment and is unchanged since the 14th century. Villefranche is the most charming and authentic town on the Cote d’Azur, nestled on the spectacular shores of the Bay of Villefranche, yet just minutes from Nice and Monaco. Still a genuine French fishing village with a wonderful local culture — yet also attracting a very interesting international group of visitors and residents, including students that attend the renowned French language institute called the Institut Français. This is a wonderful area for walkers with the coastal paths and the hills close by. For example there is a superb walk around Cap Ferrat (about eight miles). The American sixth fleet were stationed here during the second world war.

Villas and Gardens to visit: The unique micro climate has facilitated the development of world renowned gardens which are open to the public such as Villa & Jardin Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat, and Villa & Jardin Kerylos in Beaulieu sur Mer, both within walking distance. There are additional renowned gardens in the area of Menton.

Jean Cocteau Chapel and the Citadel: Jean Cocteau painted the interior of this most beautiful chapel on the waterfront. It has been recently restored to its former glory. Ville franche is a village full of art and artists.

Visit the ramparts of the Citadel and take the guided tour into the Sculpture Gallery and through the cobbled street of the old towns history. Visit the tourist office for details.

About Mattie Silman

I found myself in Villefranche in 2002 for the first time. I was enchanted from the outset and saw my apartment on the same day I arrived. I decided to sell my house in London to buy it and knew that I would have to share it from time to time in order to pay for this expensive impulse......It is the best thing I have ever done. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Mattie Silman purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Mattie Silman chose Nice Area

I realised that the location and view of the sea was priceless. The uniqueness of the location and the age of the building is something that can't be replaced - it has evolved over hundreds of years. It truly is the best location in the South of France. It still retains it's charm due to the fact there are no big hotels around and about.

What makes this apartment unique

Being in a village is lovely with the sea a short walk away. It has everything. Restaurants, gorgeous walks, easy transport. I love to sit on my terrace watching the activity in the bay. The beautiful morning skies as the sun rises which you can see on my website. Watching the moon go down over Cap Ferrat. This is my great pleasure and relaxation in life. Sharing this with my guests keeps it all going.......

Guestbook comments from the manager

23rd July to the 30th July 2006

Just to let you know we had a fantastic time in Villefranche the best holiday we have had in a long time. The apartment and location was just superb and we would love to return next year. We went to Italy, Monte Carlo and obviously Nice. So if you could let me know what dates are available for next July that would be great. I really can’t say enough about the area and scenery. The children loved the beach and we just loved the history and the ability to travel so easy once there. So thanks again for all your help and for letting us stay at your beautiful apartment.

Best Regards, Richard Caul.

Beautiful views from spacious, lovely village apt.

One of the nicest and most relaxing stays my family and I have had in decades of travel. The gorgeous property is spacious, easily slept 5 of us, the town surrounds you and is quite beautiful. Days can be spent on the beach, in the hidden gem of the Riviera which is Villafranche or other places easily reached by train. It is up 3 flights of stairs which we did not mind, but if you have any disabilities, this could be an issue.

All in all, I forgot my binoculars to watch the harbor but everything was quite wonderful.

5 star plus!!

Owner's Response: Wonderful! I am so very fortunate to be able to offer my apartment to guests and to know they had an enjoyable holiday. That gives me pleasure. Yes bring binoculars! Plus walking shoes if you like to walk as there are some of the loveliest walks close by. See my website for more information www.villefranchevacation.com. If you have mobility issues I have other apartment options for you. However, there are steps in the Village as it is built on a hill. Either stay higher up and have even more steps to negotiate to get down and back or stay here and be close to all the restaurants, the sea and the train which is just along the road with no steps to climb. Looking forward to welcoming you soon. Please also check out my London apartment on the website which has just been hand picked by the 'Plum Guide' out of thousands of London apartments as a special place to stay. Mattie.....

An invigorating accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful apartment! My wife and I enjoyed a week in February in this apartment. When you enter, you are wowed by the vista of the Bay of Villefranche against the background of Cap Ferrat from the light filled lounge and private terrace.

The apartment was spotless, with comfortable furniture and beds, every thing you will require in the kitchen. Located in the

Old Town, the bakery and local supermarket are right on your door step. The wonderful south facing sandy beach is just a 5 minute walk.

My wife really enjoyed waking to the view of the ever-changing colours of the bay.

This apartment has to be in the top 1% of quality accommodation in Villefranche.

Thank you Mattie for an excellent experience.

Owner's Response: This review has made my day and I am always delighted to know that a guest has been more than happy with their time here. I have alsobeen trying to encourage guests to come off season...... We get these marvellous days in winter and my terrace is perfect to catch the sun early in the mornings. The winter sunshine has been especially at it's best during January and February this year and now should continue on through March and April.. Villefranche has a micro climate so when the sun comes out it can be warm enough to sunbathe on the beach.... Hope to see you very soon in our very special corner of heaven. Mattie

A gem in the heart of the old town

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great week in Artistes Tresor and loved the location right in the heart of the Old Town. There was plenty of sunshine which was great for late January. The terrace is wonderful and we had to steal ourselves away as we would have been quite happy to stay there all day However, we wanted to get out and about and explore the area. A host of restaurants are within a short walk and we ate out several times. We also shopped at the local shops and in the supermarket next door and cooked at home. The booking system was easy and Sue was very helpful when we arrived. I would definitely stay here again

Owner's Response: Lovely to know our guest had a lovely time in January/February. Not all the restaurants may be open this time of year but there is alway somewhere nice to eat in the village or on the promenade or Nice only a short hop away. A bonus is the parking around the village which is free until the beginning of April...... I enjoy the off season period especially as whatever the weather the sun always comes out sooner or later - It was 19 degrees last week when I was there...... Looking forward to seeing you soon! Lovely Convenient Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was the third time we've stayed in Mattie's lovely apartment, but were amazed when she told us our last stay was twelve years ago; how time flies!!!! I can;t believe we've left it so long to return, it's so comfortable and so convenient as everything you need is right on your doorstep. When our daughter, son-in-law and two small grandchildren joined us for three days, there was plenty of room for all of us. We had a wonderful time, and even had some lovely weather, so could enjoy the amazing view from the terrace.

Mattie was extremely helpful with all the arrangements, and we look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful and comfortable Apartment

  • 5 of 5

I actually stayed here in September 2013, not 2014, but the calendar would not let me select that far back! I could not remember if I posted a review after the trip, but we were reminiscing this weekend and decided to post another one just in case!

I stayed here in September 2013 with 4 friends - we did a girls trip to the South of France! The apartment was/is in a perfect location for our trip and the views are stunning! The 5 of us fit very comfortably in the 3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms. The apartment was well equipped, very clean, and nicely furnished. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at your Artistes Tresor apartment. The

apartment itself was spacious and tastefully decorated whilst the balcony allowed us to enjoy the

wonderful setting. The apartment was also well located to enjoy the many great local restaurants.

Sue Bromwich was very welcoming and helpful and kindly arranged all our taxi journeys to and from

the airport, including those when our daughter joined us for a few days.

Our suggestion for improvement would be to update your ‘welcome pack’ - for example the Spar

Supermarket we attempted to visit had been closed for a considerable time.

Overall it was a wonderful holiday and we would definitely consider a return visit.

Owner's Response: Lovely to receive this new review and to know that this guest had a lovely holiday and enjoyed my apartment......... I have spent the last year updating the website which has shopping suggestions and other information now included on the arriving guests page. This information is updated regularly and can also be printed off before travelling....... I will make sure I remind arriving guests where to find it so nobody has an abortive trip ever again! Mattie

Car: not necessary

Villefranche is situated 4km from Nice Centre and 7km from Nice International airport. A well kept secret as it retains it's charm due to lack of major hotels nearby. You can happily spend all your time in the Village discovering it's wonderful history and why artists such as Jean Cocteau and Sommerset Maughan loved this area so much. In the 60's the music of the Rolling Stones could be heard across the bay from their villa on Cap Ferrat. Yet the village still retains it's authentic feeling. If you do wish to venture forth, the train which is 7 mins away runs all along the coast. Nice or Monaco are ten mins away or you can be in Italy (Ventimiglia) in 40 mins. The village of Eze is 20 mins by car or St Paul de Vence, Cannes and Antibes about 40 mins. A car is not essential and the walks here are fabulous. There is parking nearby. This is the best location on this fabulous coast by far. The French language Institute, Institut Francais, is a 10 minute walk away.

Other Activities: the area is full of art and history.

Ski: One and a half hours and you can be in the mountain snows if you love skiing in the winter.

There are wonderful food shops on the doorstop and there is a small supermarket three doors away. Everything you could possibly need is outside your front door. A car is not necessary as the public transport is excellent. We provide beach towels. I leave various condiments in the store cupboard as there is nothing worse than finding the cupboard empty when you arrive and having to buy just about everything. My kitchen compact and fully equipped with granite work surfaces.
