A Very Pleasant Place to Stay
I recently completed a very pleasant month's stay at the "Claremont" VRBO in Berkeley.
The property is located in a lovely part of Berkeley, walking distance to restaurants, shops, food stores a BART station (20 minute walk) and several bakeries and coffee shops, one of the great charms of Berkeley. It is clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.
Kalpana, Singh, the owner, is friendly, helpful, responsive and a pleasure to deal with. Although I did not have a car, I believe there is parking on the street. Claremont is located on a hill and cannot be reached without a several-minute uphill walk from all approaches. All are pleasant walks but might be a challenge for some, so a car can come in handy, unless you like to bike , which I find to be the ideal way to get around Berkeley, an amazingly bike-friendly places..
As for the layout of the Claremont ", it consists of 2 rooms and a small bath (shower only). Originally it was a servant's apartment for the large, stately, older home of which it is a part. The larger of its two rooms is a good -size bedroom with two twin beds and plenty of closet space. It is well-suited for 2 people and could easily accommodate a cot or crib for a third.
The second room is where one enters the apartment. It is considerably smaller than the first. It contains the kitchen area, which consists of a small sink, 2 burner stove, a microwave, a bar-size refrigerator/freezer, a reasonable assortment of kitchen utensils and equipment and a few cabinets . It also has a small table pushed up against one wall, with one chair, and another twin bed. For a single guest, like me, who ate most meals, aside from breakfast, elsewhere, and who never needed more than the one chair during his stay, this was not a problem,. but for two or more guests or ones who wanted to cook, dine or entertain in the apartment, it could be. To address it, I believeI Ms. Singh is considering replacing the twin bed with a table large enough to accommodate 4 chairs. That would make the room far more versatile and better suited and more comfortable for multiple guests.
I should also note that the Claremont is well-maintained and clean, with nice linens and towels. and good Wi Fi service It is a place where I would certainly stay again - and indeed hope to do so next year.
Very nice place
This place gave me comfort and privacy. I liked the area as well. Sitting outside, having a coffee is wonderful.
