About Donna Bowles

Danny grew up in Oahu and had a family cabin right on Pipeline, so of course he grew up surfing. As a young adult, his work brought him to the Big Island where he manages a private water system. I moved to the Big Island in 2002 from Olympia, WA. I flew for the airlines for many years and was fortunate enough to discover that Hawaii is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places in the world. My love for flying brought me to work at Mokulele Flight Service, where I originally met Danny. He was taking flying lessons. For two years he thought that I had a partner until he saw me on an online dating site. He contacted me and we’ve been together ever since and are now married. We got married in Bora Bora. We bought a 206 Cessna and have enjoyed flying to the other islands. We enjoy fishing and boating to the other islands when the channel cooperates. We have recently taken up golf and have enjoyed the golf courses on the Big Island and Kauai. Between us we have six children and I have three beautiful grandchildren. We also have a border collie terrier mix and a red healer, both pound puppies.

Donna Bowles purchased this hotel in 2010

Why Donna Bowles chose Kauai

This beautiful resort is centrally located on the Northeast side of the island, 10 minutes from the airport in Lihue. Wailua and Kapaa are 10 minutes North of us. Here you can enjoy river paddling tours, snorkel tours, waterfalls, dining, shopping, hiking, golfing and many more activities. On the North side of the island is Hanalei Bay, where they filmed The South Pacific. Here we enjoyed paddling the river, which flows into the ocean, taking in all of the wild life along the way. This is also where we discovered the Kalypso Island Bar & Grill. The lounge at Princeville Hotel is a breathtaking stop to enjoy a beverage overlooking all of Hanalei Bay. Just 10 minutes south of our place is Kalapaki Joe's Sport’s Bar & Grill and Gingbua Tai restaurant at the Harbor Mall. One of our regular stops for lunch is Keoki's Paradise Grill, in the Poipu Shopping Center. It offers a nice open air experience. I also recommend going early in the morning to Waimea Canyon before the clouds roll in and view the island of Ni’ihau. On our last trip we toured the Koloa Rum Store located at the historic Kilohana Plantation, one mile South of Lihue, between 22 North Restaurant and the Kaua’i Plantation Railway. They have samples of their rum made on Kauai. It was a fun experience. If you are a golfer, Wailua Municipal Golf Course is next door (reasonable, but always packed). The Kauai Lagoon Golf Course at the Marriott is 5 minutes away and is one of our favorites. The Puakea Golf Course is 10 minutes away, another favorite. The Kiahuna Golf Course is 20 minutes away in Poipu as well as the Poipu Golf Course (which is very nice, but more expensive). The Princeville Makai and Prince Course at Princeville, are two of the most spectacular golf courses in all of the world and just 40 minutes north and there are more. There are over 40 white sand beaches to explore on this garden isle. We highly recommend the Holo Holo Catamaran trip to Niiha

What makes this hotel unique

We were extremely pleased from the moment we saw the view from our room on the top floor. We overlook all of the pools, waterfalls, ocean and mountains. They are great rooms for people watching too. Danny appreciated the fact that our room is just an elevator ride around the corner from the lobby and the icemaker is just down the hall. There is also a lounge, on our floor only, with a microwave. We really enjoy being pampered with the beauty of the resort and the great service. If we just want a retreat, they will pick us up at the airport and even shuttle us to a shopping center and a couple of golf courses. The restaurant is outstanding with great food, large portions and good prices. Danny enjoyed a prime rib cooked just the way he likes it. A couple of days later, he had barbecue beef ribs and there was so much. He said he felt like Fred Flintstone. We took the leftovers back to our room and heated them up the next night in the microwave and had an intimate dinner on our private lanai. I enjoy waking up to see a beautiful sunrise right over the ocean. I enjoy lounging by the pool and enjoying the food and beverage service or watching sports around the tiki bar. Danny said that the surf is great for beginners or those getting back into it. I hope to try soon. We have enjoyed long walks on the beach, which is the longest one on the island. The lounge is a great alternative for lighter fares and live entertainment. I found the business center very handy for taking care of faxing, scanning and copying. The convention centers there are great for seminars or company parties. We enjoy the convenience store in the morning for a specialty coffee and a bagel. We also have another beautiful view room, if this one is booked for the time you want.

Just what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

I had hoped this property would be as awesome as the pictures and description . . . and it was! The room itself was clean and comfortable and had what was probably one of the best views. We enjoyed the lanai overlooking the four beautiful pools and ocean for our morning coffee and evening nightcap, as well as our daily beach walks. Everyone at the resort was so welcoming and helpful, and the onsite restaurants were great. The resort is centrally located on the island which minimized travel time no matter which direction we were going that day. The booking process was easy, and Donna was very responsive to my questions. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again soon. Mahalo!

Beautiful view !

  • 5 of 5

Loved spending the first part of my holiday here !The view from the condo is beautiful and you watch the sunrise from the balcony . The roosters morning clock was set up around 5 but you get used to that after a while and it becomes part of the charm of the island :)

nice resort

  • 4 of 5

Travelling with a 3 and 5 year olds, the kiddie pool and the slide were fantastic. We really liked the feel of the resort and the room was very clean. We had a great view from the balcony. We found the restaurant and the ice cream store both to be pricy. We would recommend renting a car so you can get out and try some different restaurants as there is nothing walking distance. The beach was beautiful to wake up to everyday, but not a swimming beach.

Owner's Response: Aloha Shermin, Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the resort and our beautiful view room with your family. If you walk down the beach North, the ocean does get a little less rocky for access. Please keep us in mind for the future. We are getting new paint & carpet. Mahalo, Donna Bowles

Centrally located if exploring entire island

  • 4 of 5

A short 10 minute drive north of the airport. Its about equidistant to the northside (Princeville) and westside (Waimea Canyon). Due to the fact that we wanted to explore the entire island, KBR was a logical place.

Room was standard and clean. The room we had did not include housekeeping (which also means no additional toilet paper). We could have paid $15 extra for a day. Instead, we just picked up some TP at the WalMart down the street.

KBR is located on the beach. We didnt go in the water so I cannot comment on the beach itself. Resort had 3 or so pools. The kiddie pool had a small water slide.

Only negative comment I have is that after a night of strong rain, the carport area was flooded ankle high. As you can imagine, I had to slosh through the water to get to my car.

Owner's Response: Aloha Scott, Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We haven't been caught in a down pour that strong, but it can happen. Usually it rains for a while and dries up. I guess that's the price you pay for staying in paradise. We look forward to your future return. Mahalo, Donna
