About the property

4 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps 10

TRULY ONE OF A KIND, FABULOUS WATERFRONT PROPERTY - 4 BR/3BA - 3 BR/2BA home plus an attached 1 bedroom/1bath cottage. Includes your own wonderfully secluded private salt water tidal lagoon with fish, lobster, and all sorts of plants, and aquatic life !

New swimming pool with infinity edge and poolside Tiki hut just added December 2014. Heating and Chilling available.

Come relax in this very private and peaceful amazing water front property on the Gulf, with fantastic views of the water from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and screened porch. Boat dock for boats to 40 feet. Parking for your trailer and extra vehicles on adjacent lot. Four Kayaks for your enjoyment. PLR2011-00266.

The House: The main house includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Two master bedrooms provide a much needed respite from the busy life that you have come to the Keys to escape from. The private master bedroom and bath are located on one side of the living room, and the remaining 2 bedrooms and bathroom are accessed from the opposite side of the living room. The second spacious master bedroom and bath is attached to the main house, separated by a car port for additional privacy. The kitchen is open and comfortable to cook in with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, stainless steel range, dishwasher, and a large picture window with pass through to the large, enclosed patio. This gulf front home comes with all the amenities you would need or want, including a generous flat screen HD television in the living room, an outdoor gas grill, cable television and high speed wireless internet.

The Property: Easing out to the backyard through the expansive French doors, you will find a very coveted, one of a kind private 13 to 15 foot deep saltwater tidal lagoon, where you can snorkel and swim in the privacy of your own backyard. Please do not intimidate or catch the fish and lobster, they are our pets. Or you can relax on the generous screened porch, as you watch the kaleidoscope of colors dancing in the magnificent sunsets. The 50 foot dock will accommodate most boats, or jump off the end of the dock for a swim or snorkel in the gulf. 4 Kayaks are available for your enjoyment. Paddle on out to the deserted island for an adventure. An additional lot separates the house from the other houses on the street and can be used for parking your boat trailer, or extra vehicles. An abundance of landscape lighting around the backyard provides an amazing ambiance at night for a private swim in the lagoon.

The lagoon: There is no other body of water like this in the Keys. If you are familar with the TV show 'Flipper', you might be amused to learn that the dolphin Flipper once swam in our lagoon. The lagoon is a healthy aquatic habitat, which is healthy for your skin; unlike a chlorinated body of water such as a swimming pool. Chlorine is toxic to plants and fish, and also to humans. Because the lagoon is not treated with any chemicals (which would harm the fish and plant life) and is connected to the gulf via an aqueduct, the visibility and conditions in the lagoon are dependent on the conditions in the gulf. As the gulf water warms, the warm water provides more nutrients for plant life and plants become more abundant. Since lobsters eat plants and algae, expect to see more lobster off the dock by the jetty to the south, when the water warms. Be sure to get your lobster license though, if you wish to savor the taste of these delicate creatures. Fines are steep for poaching. Please do NOT catch the lobsters in the lagoon, as they are our pets, and help control the plant life. With a small aqueduct connecting the lagoon to the gulf, the water level will rise and lower about 2 feet with the changing tide, when the ocean ebbs and flows. Come with your mask and snorkel and adventurous attitude as you explore the marvels of the lagoon and the gulf. If you are squeamish about walking in the gulf or lagoon, remember to bring your water shoes ! If you desire a pristine, sandy beach, rather than an aquatic habitat, the renowned Sombrero beach is about one mile from the property. Of course, there will be no privacy, and you will have to compete with all the other tourists that have no access to water from their property. The water depth in the gulf by the dock varies from about 4 feet to 6 feet. If you venture out to the bay, the water level may be as shallow as 3 foot or as deep as 10 feet. Life jackets are provided.

We hope you enjoy your stay. And please, call us immediately when you arrive, if everything is not to your satisfaction.

Absolutely beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week at this wonderful home and it was truly amazing. There were nine of us - six adults and three children and everyone had a fabulous time. The home has plenty of space - the screened in porch was one of our favorite spots to gather for meals and morning coffee. The outdoor space provides amenities usually found at a large resort rather than an individual home - the pool is amazing; the lagoon was facsinating and the seating areas scattered around outside provide a variety of places for people to relax. The children were delighted by the sea life they encountered - at the end of the dock and in the lagoon - nurse sharks, manatee, jelly fish, baracuda, iguana and more. We also found the house to be well stocked with beach towels and bath towels for everyone as well as a great variety of kitchen bakeware and dishes.

Overall, our entire family agreed that this was one of our favorite vacation spots. Thank you for sharing your home with us!!

Great place right on the water!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at the property during our week long stay in June 2018. The house was plenty big for all 8 of us. We really enjoyed the pool and dock. We rented a 27’ boat for the week and the dock was perfectly adequate in accommodating the boat. The house was plenty big for all of us and We really enjoyed cooking all our meals in the spacious kitchen. We also utilized the grill outside for a few meals. The house and property were in excellent shape and we couldn’t see any signs of hurricane damage anywhere. A real gem.

This house is simply paradise! You really do not have to leave once you arrive! We were a party of eight that enjoyed everything from the gorgeous sunrise and sunsets to the pool and lagoon. The boys caught 2 nurse sharks from the pier. We came down to get married on sombrero beach. We wanted an intimate affair with just our family once we arrived we realized this piece of paradise is where we also wanted to exchange our vows! I highly recommend the property! The owners were very responsive with our booking and everything was virtually seamless! We will definitely be returning in the future! Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us! I already miss it!

Good house but needs some TLC to be 4 or 5 star

  • 3 of 5

The pool and tiki hut area were amazing and we spent a lot of time there. The inside of the house is nice but can use some TLC to be more inviting to guests. A little upkeep and better work from the cleaners would go a long way towards improving the overall experience of staying at this house(dust build up considerable in a few areas, mold on the guest cottage shower curtain, mold smell in guest cottage, a few broken items: light fixtures, back porch screen ripped, hanging smoke detector, etc). The BBQ grill was in awful shape and needs to be replaced. We mentioned our concerns to the owners via email(per their request in the arrival book) but no one showed up to remedy any of the deficiencies. Be prepared for lots of rules upon arrival-they have a big binder full of them. All in all the rules are easily followed by any adult with respect for someone else's property but due to condition of property certainly seem like overkill. Be prepared to have to buy paper and cleaning products like paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, Windex, etc. Owners only provided 2 TP rolls per bathroom, no paper towels and 1 or 2 garbage bags with no cleaning products available for use. Not really a big deal but would have been nice to have some cleaning spray for use upon arrival rather than have to go out to store and stock the house. Overall, our experience was one that we enjoyed. We got over all the little quirks of the house and enjoyed some quality family time. Marathon is still trying to recover from the Hurricane(visit was in May of 2018)-a bunch of stores, restaurants and businesses are closed(possibly for good). We still enjoyed our visit to this Key though.

Owner's Response: As the owner, I am disappointed with this review. We try very hard to provide a place that is better that this guest felt about our property. This guest did send us an email listing a few items mentioned here (torn screen, smoke detector, dust in one of the rooms.) and then their last statement was “None of these items matter to us, but we wanted to let you know so we are not held responsible”. Because of this last statement we waited until checkout to take care of them, rather than bother the guests while they were enjoying their vacation. We have reviewed with our cleaners the items where they were deficient with their cleaning and will continue to monitor them more closely. They have a hard job cleaning an entire house in 5 hours every week, and may occasionally miss dusting every spot in the house. Our cleaning service supplies the paper and cleaning products. This is standard procedure in our area. Our instructions clearly say that we provide enough so that you do not need to run out to the store the day you arrive, but we do not provide for a full week. In the past we have tried to leave extra, only to have guests cleanout the closet and take everything home with them. One smoke detector was left hanging loose from the ceiling by the painter that had just finished painting the interior of the house. This is not a property that is run down and in need of TLC, like the guest states. With weekly rentals, things do get broken. We inspect the property weekly, order the replacements for the broken items and make the repairs as quickly as the supplies and repairmen are available. The torn screen was damaged by a guest the week before this guest checked in. A repair has been scheduled, but this is the keys and repairs like this do not happen overnight. All of the local businesses here are still overworked from all of the hurricane repairs, so we schedule our repairs and wait our turn. As for the grill, this is a 6 month old high end Weber grill. I checked it myself and it is working perfectly. It must have been user error on the guest's part.

Super layout and thoughtful touches for a large group! Fantastic views and very clean!

  • 4 of 5

This place is fantastic! Fully stocked and complete with extras we rarely see like a high chair and pack-n-play for our grandson, plenty of dishes, new and updated kitchen appliances and blackout shades. The beds were very comfortable with nice sheets. The impact from Irma was minimal in the area, but accumulations of sea weed in the neighboring house should be addressed due to potential odors (we caught a few wiffs!). The lagoon was interesting, but the algal growth prevented us from observing the sea life except occasionally. The furnishings, TV, internet and living spaces were awesome! We really appreciated the guest cottage, which allowed our grandson to nap and sleep undisturbed while we played. All of the outdoor spaces were well appointed and perfect for swimming, relaxing or watching the sunset. Thanks too for the fishing poles and kayaks!

Hard to make a better endorsement than to say that we would definitely book it again in the future should we return to Marathon! Highly recommended!
