About the property

2 BR's, 2 BA's, bunk beds in den, sleeps 7; Optional Guest House w/BA sleeps 2

This beautiful, spacious, redwood cottage sits on incredible Island Lake about 2 miles out side of the unincorporated community of Orange Springs. Set on a perfect, private lake lot, the property consists of the large main house, a spacious guest house, carport, dock, boat house, and patio. Great lake views, old live oak trees with Spanish moss, and a lake breeze describe this picturesque environment. Completely renovated in 2011, this marvelous retreat has a large kitchen with gas range; dining, living, and family rooms overlooking the lake; new baths; laundry facilities; well-appointed furnishings; and more. The main house sleeps 7. If you rent the optional guest house (2 persons), the property can accommodate a total of 9. The dock is terrific for fishing and the lake is great for swimming. 80 feet of shoreline awaits you. There is a canoe, charcoal grill, picnic table, and fire pit for relaxing outdoors.

As well, I have 2 other lake houses nearby if this one seems too large.

About Edward Wynne

My family has owned property around this area since the late 1940's, and my ancestors came to Florida in 1845, when it was still a territory. It became at state 1848. After extenisve renovations and infrastructure upgrades, I began renting our other 2 lake homes in 2004. I wanted others to enjoy this part of Florida as I did growing up. I have a wonderful local staff that works to ensure that guests are satisfied.

Edward Wynne purchased this house in 2011

Perfect Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend booking this beautiful cottage!!

Booking this reservation with Ed was so easy and he was so quick with replying with all the details regarding what you need to pack and directions, deposits and refund policy. Ed made this the easiest booking and he was so helpful!!

The pictures do not do this cottage justice. Its renovated and so warm and cozy even with a big group of people. We rented the attached guest house as well to have more space and that was also so cozy and perfect size for 2.

The kitchen has granite counter tops with everything you need to cook for a large family. Plenty of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, cutting boards, utensils and even a toaster, toaster oven, hand held blender, coffee pot, tea kettle and a crock pot. The den and living room are so warm and cozy and overlook the beautiful back yard with a perfect view of the lake and dock. Both guest bedrooms were spacious and cannot say enough great things about the bedding, linen and pillows. My girls slept in the bunk beds and everyone had the best nice sleep. Everything was so white and clean and also warm and cozy. The main bathroom was recently renovated with beautiful stone tiles throughout. Plenty of towels for all the bathrooms and even towels for the dock and outdoors. There is a washer and dryer right in the kitchen which was so convenient to throw a load in while cooking. There is also a dining room with lots of seating and a beautiful screened in patio with a table, 4 patio chairs and even 2 rocking chairs. Great spot in the morning to read and look over the lake. So quiet and serene.

The backyard has a great big fire pit and many wonderful nights were spent around the bonfire. We used the grill every night as well and loved the 2 canoes available with the paddles and life jackets kept in the shed.

Wanda, who is responsible for the inside of the house was so receptive and so pleasant! On our last day, I called to ask if we can have lunch and then check out around 1:00pm. She was so ameniable and never made us feel rushed to leave. I cannot wait to return to this little bit of paradise, away from the hassles of life. Love that there is no cell phone although we had wifi access and there is a landline but it was nice not to have any phone calls to disturb our time away.

Thank you Ed and Wanda for the best time away with no hassles!! Highly recommend this cottage for the ideal getaway!!

Best vacation to relax and enjoy nature and the area in a beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends had a great time in the Redwood cottage at Island Lake. It felt like heaven! The pictures don’t do it justice. Beautiful, peaceful, not lacking of anything. The fire pit was a big hit for us and Michael the groundskeeper was very helpful in bringing us firewood and to offer help if we had any questions, which wasn’t necessary since we had everything we needed. Excellent directions, instructions and information from the owner...very thorough. Great place to relax and visit, play games, swim in the lake, fish, canoe, bbq, etc. Absolutely first rate place. The area is near the Ocala National Forest where we hiked the Yearling Trail and saw a bear! We also took a day to visit the St. Augustine historic district and Anastasia State Park, less than an hour’s drive away on perfectly scenic roads. We also explored the historic old churches and cemeteries in Orange Springs. It did take a while to get used to the well water, which is perfectly safe, but we had plenty of bottled water for drinking. Honestly we didn’t want to leave...Very peaceful yet fun experience to vacation and celebrate my birthday! Thank you Mr. Wynne, we will definitely be back!

I liked the house a lot and the beds were really comfortable. Also, the barbecue and fire pit was amazing, along with the boats. The lake was also really pretty... it was a beautiful experience and we are sure to return.
