Things to do in Paynesville and nearby

A short walk, cycle or drive takes you into the village of Paynesville, where you will find cafes and restaurants, two supermarkets and a range of shops.

The Gippsland Lakes system includes three large lakes with 600 square kilometers of navigable waterways. Paynesville sits between Lake King and Lake Victoria offering sandy swimming beaches for the kids, plus a public wharf, jetties and beaches for fishing. The sheltered waters of Newlands Arm are ideal for a range of watersports such as water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, yachting, or windsurfing.

Visit the koalas on Raymond Island. Raymond Island is a wonderfully natural bushy island, separated from Paynesville by water and housing a passionate community living a quieter life. It can only be accessed by ferry or boat.

Just outside Paynesville at Eagle Point Bluff you can view the famous Lake King silt jetties. They are formed by sediment of the rise and fall of the Mitchell River as it flows into the lake, and are the second-longest in the world!

If you have a boat it's only minutes to Raymond Island, Picnic Arm, Duck Arm, Rotamah Island or Ocean Grange with access to 90 miles of pristine surf beach. The resorts of Metung and Lakes Entrance are a little further, and there are miles of rivers to explore by boat, which can also be hired.

Visit the Paynesville boatyards in Slip Road.

There is a strong art culture around the Gippsland Lakes. There is designer jewellery, sculpture, prints and glass art. Visit the studios near Nungurner to see local artists at work or purchase items.

There are many antique museums and shops in the area, such as the Bairnsdale Clock Museum with over 600 clocks.

Wineries abound in the area, such as Nicholson River Winery, Ensay Winery, Bullant Brewery, Wyanga Park Winery and Lightfoot & Sons Wines. You can follow the Twin Rivers Farm Food and Wine Trail to learn more.

Very clean and had everything we needed. We thoughly enjoyed our stay. The wood heater was lovely and warmed the house really well. We loved all the windows which let the warm winter sun in.

A wonderful Dog Friendly holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this property before several times so this was a much anticipated return visit. We love this house. It is very light, clean and comfortable. The garden is gorgeous - large, well fenced and just so pretty with all the native flowering trees and shrubs. The bird life is abundant - and doesn't seem to be bothered by the dogs in the backyard!

There is plenty to see and do in Paynesville and the property is within easy walking distance of the esplanade and ferry to Raymond Island.

We think this is one of the nicest places we've stayed - and fun for all the family, especially the canine part.

Thank you for another wonderful stay at this property. We will be back!!

Very comfortable accomodation

  • 4 of 5

Lovely five night stay. Very comfortable bed. Lovely clean light filled rooms. Wood fire with plenty of wood, and split system. Walking distance to shops and marina.

Safe, secure yard for my 18 year old furbaby.

Local IGA is amazing, best ever free range eggs!

Hopefully will return soon.

My only suggestion is come equipped with basic staples.
