Roomy townhouse with a pool. Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed with a few provisions as we arrived in a Sunday, which was a welcomed surprise. The townhouse is about 45 minutes from Malaga airport but very easy to locate due to the detailed directions sent to us with the properties keys. There is parking available in front of the property however Riogordo has enough restaurants, bars and supermarkets to stay self contained for a short stay. As a partyof 8 we were accommodated for comfortably and there are two fridges to keep provisions and drinks. The three children loved the pool and terrace to the rear of the property is a secluded suntrap, perfect for sunbathing! We took a bus from the village to Malaga, the bus station is about 15 minutes walk to the historical part of the city but well worth a visit. We found the locals to be friendly and the town really does come alive on the weekend after 9 o’clock in the evening. Having done the usual south coast holidays in Spain, this holiday offered a quiet yet comfortable alternative at a very reasonable price. There are plenty of places to explore such as the Alhambra palace and lakes in the mountains, however we just fancied a place where we could unwind by the pool and eat a lovely meal in the evening; Salamanquesa in Riogordo ticked all the right boxes.

Salmanquesa, Riogordo

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had an amazing holiday at salmanquesa in Riogordo. The villa was better than we could have hoped for and was very well equipped. The owners had provided everything from cool bags to pool toys as well as the usual hairdryers and irons. The pool was fairly small as expected but my two grandsons and myself found it more than adequate and spent everyday swimming and having fun in it. The village was absolutely beautiful and perfect for an authentic Spanish holiday. The locals were friendly and the shops, bars and restaurants were inexpensive and offered excellent produce/meals and drinks. There is also a large village pool with a breathtaking view which costs only a couple of euros for the day. The owners of the property were amazing from the time of booking, answering any queries I had and also provided a very extensive information pack in advance of us arriving. There was also drawers full of information leaflets and maps at the villa (which I didn't find till my last day ). The only issue we had was with the narrow streets in the village and our large rental people carrier, but careful driving and patients helped us navigate our way around without incident. The villa set in a quiet village in the beautiful countryside offered both a quiet and very Spanish holiday as well as access to the more tourist focussed and retail areas via a drive of 30-40 minutes. I would highly recommend this property as we had a fantastic holiday there, but make sure you brush up on your Spanish before hand as you will need it.

Next door to building site

  • 1 of 5

We stayed here for a week at the end of April. Arriving late on Sunday night, we were pleased with the accommodation, very clean and spacious. We're woken on Monday at 8 am to the sound of kango hammers and drills, the house was vibrating. There was one of the largest skips I've seen parked on the street outside with a ramp from it to our front door where wheelbarrows full of rubble were being ferried out. Dust was billowing out from the house and into our property. Scaffolding then appeared out the rear of next door and some sort of extension was being built. This work noise etc., continued until 5pm on Friday. Unfortunately because of this we had to spend most of our time away from the house as it was impossible to relax there.

Very unfortunate and I appreciate that not everyone is on holiday and work has to go on. I informed the owner so as he could maybe make others renting the property aware.

Definitely not the break I we were hoping for.

Owner's Response: A bit unfair. The review suggests that our house was a building site - it wasn't. It appears that a neighbour had started building work on their house on the Monday morning after this guest arrived, which unfortunately we have no control over. Whe we were contacted by this guest they said: "Hi Colin We arrived on sunday night and really pleased with your house, ready to enjoy our holiday. Monday 8 am woke to the noise of kango hammer, drills, plumes of cement dust front and back of House next door they appear to be doing significant renovations. ...". As they said, they were really pleased with our house but not the building work. A bit unfair to give us a bad review when they were happy with our house but the next door property spoilt their holiday.

Salamanquesa - Holiday Home with Private Pool

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our stay at Salamanquesa in Riogordo. We were sent an excellent information pack prior to travelling which contained a lot of detail we found helpful, including how to find the property. It is on a one way system and so this was appreciated. On arrival we were greeted with a super welcome pack of bread, cheese, meats, tea/coffee and wine - all of which was lovely the minute you step through the door.

The house is excellent and includes all home features we needed and felt very big inside with four bedrooms in total. The kitchen is very well equipped too with plenty of fridge/freezer space, washing machine and oven/hob etc. Outdoors the pool is a complete winner and was put to very good use in the soring temperatures we had, with sunbeds and plenty of seating and bbq too.

Riogordo town has all you need in terms of shops and restaurants. We ate and drank in only half of them but they were all very friendly and provided great service and lovely food. Try to go out later in the evening if you can to get the full Spanish experience. Not much is happening at 5.30pm English dinner time! Families walk out together with children and grandparents, all sharing a meal from 10pm onwards. It was great to see. My young son was struggling to keep his eyes open at the beginning but was happy when we managed to order him a burger and chips. During our stay was their summer fair. Every village in Andalucia were celebrating with the streets decorated brightly and an evening procession of floats carried through the streets with bands playing and fireworks going off. The music and celebrations continue throughout the night, but it was a great experience and a spectacular event to see with colourful outfits etc.

The area is amazing and sited within some stunning scenery. Driving around through the moutains is quite breathtaking but you will need your wits about you on some of the more minor roads. Our hire car had air con and we were grateful for that. It was a Citreon C5 and I'd say it was as wide as you would want to park outside the property. We had to fold in the mirrors and get as close to the wall as possible to allow the dustbin lorry to get by.

Our whole experience of booking this property, communication with the owners, payment etc has been very smooth. We have fully enjoyed our holiday in Spain and would highly recommend this to any family wishing to see some 'real' Spain.

Great authentic spanish villa

  • 5 of 5

Upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised by how big the villa was, the addition of the pool and upstairs balcony made it that more enjoyable.

The beds were super comfi and the general feel of the villa was authentic, rustic and comfortable.

We loved spending the evening upstairs on the balcony enjoying the lovely view of the valley whilst sampling the beautiful local wines.

Riogordo it's self was very pretty with some nice bars serving up some very special food. My mom came with us and she lives in Cyprus, she commented on the calamari stating it was the nicest she had ever had. The bars served ice cold beer and the local house wines were excellent value, a lot cheaper than Cyprus.

I was also amazed on how friendly people were, everyone spoke and said hello, the only down side was that no one spoke English but this made us pull our finger out and we learned enough to get by.

Overall a very relaxing stay in a very beautiful part of unspoilt Spain.

Great villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We were really impressed with the size of the Villa and the overall rustic, comfortable feel. It was very clean and the owners left us a welcome pack including two lovely local wines and hams.

The beds were super comfi and the pool was great.

We loved spending many a night on the balcony enjoying the lovely local wines and beer. The view from the balcony was stunning and it was such a lovely quiet spot to sunbath and bird watch.

The villa had everything we needed to enjoy a well earned rest and with the addition of WIFI it kept us up with things back home.

The people in riogordo were all very friendly and the bars served first rate food and wine.

The views in this locality were stunning and it all felt like a very real spanish holiday.

We would definitely return as it ticked all the boxes for us.
