A true gem of a cabin in western North Carolina

  • 5 of 5

Like others have said, there is a reason this cabin has 5 stars! Extremely secluded and private but yet still has access to fast WiFi and satellite TV! Amazing views from the top of your very own little mountain. From enjoying the hot tub on a covered porch to sitting on one of their comfortable couches and watching a movie, this cabin is so unbelievably cozy! The driveway can be taunting at first but once you have made it up, you realize it wasn't as bad as it looked. Our 2WD SUV made it up with out any problems.

Once you arrive at the cabin, you will find a fully stocked home away from home. All of the beds are comfortable and come with fresh linens and soft pillows. The bathroom is fully stocked with toilet paper, towels, and other amenities. They even have containers full of personal items you have forgotten. The laundry comes with plenty of detergent. The kitchen comes with pots and pans, utensils, and plates and cups. They even had aluminum foil, coffee, sugar, coffee filters, and a bunch of other essentials. There are TVs in the downstairs bedroom, front living room (with DVD player), and a large TV in the dining/den area. Outside they have a pleasant front porch swing and rocking chairs. They have 2 different charcoal grills and a fire pit area. There is an ample amount of dry firewood under a tarp for you to enjoy. My 2 and 4 year old loved making smores on the fire!

There is a bunch to do around the cabin as well. Short drives to Andrews and Bryson City to enjoy shopping and dining. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is also close by with rafting, kayaking, and the Rivers End restaurant. The drive in is beside a river and offers great views of small waterfalls and one large waterfall! There are spots to trout fish around every bend. I shared pictures of the cabin on my Facebook and had dozens of friends inquire about staying here. It was a blessing to be able to relax and unwind here. The owners are extremely wonderful! Dan called me shortly after booking to let me know the stairs might be a little steep for a 2 and 4 year old and recommended I bring a baby gate for their protection. He called to make sure we had arrived safely! This just goes to show they care about their renters. I highly recommended this cabin to everybody!!

Cozy Cabin Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time! This cabin is quite the retreat, & feels very secluded. The gravel drive is a bit daunting but I managed in a Honda Fit, just fine. It's a little small but quite comfortable & cozy. 3 adults & 2 kids fit just fine. There is no A/C, but the owners instructed us to open all windows & turn on the fans upon arrival, after about 30 min it was significantly cool & we never had a problem with it being too hot, even over the 4th of July week. The internet is spotty, but manageable for communication. Overall a great trip & would absolutely recommend if you're looking for a mountain getaway.

The cabin and location are perfect for a getaway. The drive in is rough for big or low cars. P

Overall great experience. We used the cabin as a base camp for fly fishing. Great access to the Nantahala river on the drive in and out. The cabin is in very good shape and well stocked. No AC but the cool breeze at 3000 ft made for a very comfortable stay. There is a long tight winding driveway through the trees that would not be good for low clearance cars or large trucks - however the remoteness is enhanced with this feature. Overall great stay.

Fantastic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as described. Very private, secluded and quaint cabin. We loved this cabin and would definitely rent again if in the area. It’s close to Lake Nantahala and the launch for the Nantahala River. The views of the river driving up are just breathtaking. Just a great getaway. The owners were nothing short of wonderful. They were very responsive with questions/inquiries and checked on us which was very nice. You literally don’t need to bring anything with you except stopping for food. The fridge had condiments. The kitchen was equipped with everything you needed to cook. The bathroom even had toiletries and more than ample supply of linens. The on-site washer and dryer were very helpful given we were there a week. We typically mountain bike when we are in the area but spent more time kayaking and hiking/swimming with our dogs. The upstairs loft was very cute overlooking the front of the cabin and large window. We’ll hate leaving but had a fantastic time in a very clean and well maintained cabin.

Thank you, Dan and Sheyla! We’d love to come back again to Happy Top!
