Really enjoyed staying in the miners cottage. Loved the area and the history. Unfortunately the cleanliness and presentation of the cottage was very below average. This cottage needs a lot of TLC and a clean from top to botttom.
The Pebble House
If you enjoy getting back to basics and have an appreciation for history you'll love this place. Locally we enjoyed the Dunolly market, Meville caves, Bridgewater swimming hole (and local bakery pies) and the Tarnagulla cafe sunday roast.
We loved this little cottage, will book again!
Enjoyed our stay at the stone cottage
Our Stay at The Pebble House
We loved the authenticity of this place.
Don't stay in winter
Quite disappointed. We booked for 2 nights and ended up leaving after the first night.
This house has insufficient heating to cope with a winter's night. There is a fireplace in the main room, which gives off very little heat and there is no other heating available. The door between the main room and the backroom is poorly hung and will only close 3/4 of the way. This meant cold air from the back of the house constantly came into the main room.
Lighting was a big issue. There was insufficient light to read after about 3 pm. We also found mouse droppings in the bedding and there is a strong stale smell in the front room.
The property looks inviting and is certainly quaint. We were very disappointed that the above issues prevented us from staying.
Dear Tony and Catherine,
I am disappointed to hear of your experiences at The Pebble House. When you texted that you left because of the cold and “among other things” I assumed these were personal reasons and did not wish to interfere. I would like to point out though, as described in the house notes, that there is a Coonara heater in the back room that heats the whole house very well. Even though it has been a cold winter. The house has been shut up for periods of time due to the weather which may contribute to a musty smell and it is very old needing some spring air. It has also moved due to drought, so the crooked door – which does close if given a shove. I am appalled at the notion of mouse droppings in the bedding, as I had made it myself and noted nothing. Nor have I seen evidence of mice – but it is possible so I will take action on that front. I do appreciate feedback and will note your concerns. However, the property description of The Pebble House makes it quite clear what type of accommodation it is. I am happy to refund you for the night you didn’t stay. Kind Regards,
The Pebble House
