L'Ancienne Cordonnerie offers a character 2-bedroomed apartment, ideal for those who wish to explore and discover the Quercy Blanc. Local shops, banks, restaurants/cafes and an excellent Sunday market.

A mediaeval house, situated in a very quiet quarter of the old town, l'Ancienne Cordonnerie is a well-equipped apartment and has a living/dining area with a modern fully-equipped kitchen, with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, sandwich maker and much more. There is a modern shower room, a large double bedroom with double bed and a small bedroom with two single beds. Linen and towels are provided. There are electric heaters & a wood-burning fire. French & English satellite TV/radio, video player & stereo are installed and there is internet access. There is a small breakfast/drinks terrace and fresh croissants are only a short distance away in the village!

Pick-up from Bergerac, Toulouse airports or Cahors Station can be arranged for an additional charge.

Leisure activities: The countryside around Montcuq is delightful. If you enjoy walking or cycling, many routes are marked and, during the summer season, some of the walks are guided. There are riding schools and stables nearby and golf at the Rouscous Golf Club. During the summer, the outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts are open and, for enthusiasts, the Plan d'Eau offers a beach and swimming from Easter to September. Throughout the summer season there are fêtes, musical events, antiques fairs and the busy Sunday Market which fills the main street and boulodrome. The valley of the Lot is about 20 minutes drive away and offers swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing and pleasure trips, interesting scenery and many historic places to visit ... not forgetting the many vineyards to be researched! Cahors itself is a fascinating town with museums, ancient churches and Roman remains . It is also home to one of the most beautiful bridges in France, le Pont Valentré.

The village of Montcuq: Montcuq is a popular holiday destination. A pretty and historic rural town with its roots in the C11th and C12th, Montcuq provides a delightful setting for a holiday of discovery of the Quercy Blanc. The oak woodlands and beautiful limestone scenery give the area its name: quercus is the Latin for oak. The town's landmark is theTour (Keep) of the original fortifications and within the old part of the town there are the many 'ruelles' of the old castle with their C14th-C16th half-timbered houses, traces of C11th-C13th mullions and arches, beautifully proportioned C15th-C18th buildings and even a few traces of much older occupation!

There are banks and all the shops you need for your everyday purchases as well as cafés and restaurants offering a range of local specialities and lighter snacks just a step away from the gîte. The celebrated Sunday market is open all year round and is recommended for organic food and drink and, after your shopping, a relaxing apéritif in the sun!

Montcuq is ideally situated for exploring the Midi-Pyrenées. Besides the many beautiful towns and villages of the Quercy Blanc, the Cité Rose of Toulouse is easily accessible by train or road. A 2.5 hour drive will take you to the Mediterranean coast, into the mountains and to Bordeaux and the Arcachon coast.

Notes:
The apartment is accessed by a covered flight of stairs opening onto a small terrace which is perfect for breakfast with fresh coffee and croissants or the essential aperitifs as the sun goes down. There is an efficient wood-burning fire which makes the apartment cosy in cooler weather and there are panel heaters in each room to ensure comfortable background heat whenever required. Cool-air fans are also provided. There is English & French satellite TV/radio, a video player and a stereo system. There is a utility room equipped with washing machine and drying facilities. Being on the first floor, the apartment is not at this time ideal for those with walking difficulties, but please talk to us about this. As there is no garden it is also not suitable for large pets.

Great welcome

The apartment is charming, with its beams and bare stone walls, as well as feeling cosy and homely. It has plenty of character and a modern kitchen and bathroom. It is extremely well equipped - the best self catering place I have come across, and there was a very generous starter pack of food. Mo and Mark made us most welcome, and treated us to a lovely meal at their house. Apart from being very interesting people, they have clearly put a great deal of thought into running the gite.

The village is lovely, with all the amenities you would want, and the countryside is beautiful. There are lots of pretty villages to visit and Cahors is not far and well worth a visit.

Altogether, we enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to return.

Todo ha estado fenomenal. LLegas a una casa donde te esperan como si fueras su familia, con todos los detalles muy cuidados y personalizados, con un pack de bienvenida de alimentos muy completo que es todo un detalle. La casa supera las espectativas que teníamos, bien equipada, acogedora, en la cual hemos estado muy comodos. Los dueños, Mo y Mark, son un encanto, te atienden desde el primer momento y están ahí para cualquier cosa que necesites. Sin lugar a dudas, para nosotros es el mejor sitio en el cual estar y desde el cual conocer Montcuq y toda la zona del Quercy: Cahors, Saint Cirq La Popie, el impresionante rio Lot, los campos, la gente, ....

Mo and Mark, thanks for everything (included for those Blue Planet video tapes ;-) ). We really have a great time. Hope mee you sometime again. Gracias.

We absolutely loved our time here! Our small family was treated like family, exactly what we needed. Sweet stuffed animals were awaiting in our children's beds (perfect, as we arrived much after bed time for them), beer, rose and salad makings in the fridge and such a warm welcome. This little town in charming and kept us quiet busy. The apartment is darling, historic and with every need in the kitchen (very important as we have stayed in many places lacking even the basics). We often talk about our time in Moncuq and my kiddos still sleep with their stuffed animals! Sending love from Luxembourg to Montcuq!

We have known Mo and Mark for a number of years, but this was our first stay in their gite.

The accommodation is extremely well equipped and there was a wonderful welcome pack on our arrival. The flat is ideally situated in the old quarter of Montcuq, and close to shops, banks, restaurants and all amenities.

Montcuq itself is picturesque, and a perfect centre for a holiday in Quercy Blanc.

Our stay was enhanced by the unobtrusive but very warm welcome from our hosts. Highly recommended!

Superb location and hospitality

The apartment exceeded our expectations and proved to be an exceptional base for our touring holiday of Quercy Blanc. Mo & Mark (the owners) were extremely welcoming and hospital without being intrusive, and provided sound advice for places to visit and restaurants to try. The apartment was ideal for 3, very clean and well equipped, although the steps up to this first floor apartment might be challenging to the less active. It's location in the centre of the medieval village of Montcuq was great - near the shops, cafes and tourist atrractions (a trip up La Tour not to be missed), but none the less quiet. The Sunday market was brilliant! Me and my wife and daughter (17) had a fantastic week in this very beautiful part of France and would highly recommend it and the apartment.

L'Ancienne Cordonnerie is situated right in the heart of the lovely medieval village of Montcuq just 100 metres from the boulangerie yet in a delightfully picturesque and quiet corner of the old bourg. Dating back to the C15th, the apartment is on the first floor of an original half-timbered house built in the traditional Quercy style. During the C20th, the house was home and workshop to the shoemaker, the Cordonnier. The Quercy is in the heart of the beautiful and unspoilt Midi-Pyrénées. The area is renowned for its high quality of gastronomic cuisine and the celebrated 'Black Wine of Cahors'. The valley of the Lot is about 20 minutes drive away and offers swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing and pleasure trips, interesting scenery and many historic places to visit ... not forgetting the many vineyards to be researched!
