We arrived late and dead on our feet after a long motorcycle trip from Cherbourg waiting to greet us was David with open arms and a cup of tea. We settled into our lovely geit, feet up and a bottle of wine and relaxed into the early hours. This property is a beautiful part of France very rural but with easy access to major roads that lets you plan for trips near and far and experience the many locations France has to offer in this region. The property was as described in the literature and met our expectation in full, the use of the pool was excellent on those days when you just wanted to relax and take it easy. The barbecue was a bonus and we enjoyed many a meal from it, sitting in the warm evening sun after some of our long days touring the cities and towns. If you are not to adventurist there are excellent towns and villages to visit that have markets, shop, cafes, restaurants and vineyards to visit from 10 min to an hour away. We will make a return visit c’était notre petit coin de! Michael and Rhonda
We found our cottage to be exactly what we wanted.Very well equipped and in good overall condition with ideal layout for a couple.Good decor with lovely blue and white French colours.Lots of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, cleaning materials, clothes pegs etc . Great location in the middle of the area for beaches and other lovely towns and villages.Private south facing garden which was a sun trap and beside a well kept pool area complete with sun umbrella and loungers.Monty, the owners puppy was a delight.
When you opened the kitchen door it was lovely to hear the birds singing in the peace of the counrtyside and we were ony 10 minutes by car from the nearest large supermarket.Perfect.
As the area is very flat it is ideal for cycling. If you visit La Rochelle which is about an hour away, and a must, you can hire bikes for two hours at no charge,a great way to see the town. The wonderful beach at Chatelaillon Plage is just outside the town and is very clean.
Although there was nowhere within walking distance to eat within about 10/15 minutes drive you will find somewhere.
I would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants their own place in the country but not far from clean beaches, boat trips lovely villages and acres of countryside.
David and Hazel couldn't have made us feel more welcome. They were very attentive and were always there if we needed them. They can recommend places to eat and see which is always a good help.
As we went off season we found the roads and towns fairly quiet which was quite nice. There are many country lanes in the hamlet where the cottage is situated and it would be nice to have bikes included in the rental if you are flying and can't take them with you.
We have had many self catering holidays within several parts of France and "The Cottage" was one of the best.
Linda and John Shearer
We struck gold when we found this place on the internet 6 years ago and have returned every year since, both in and out of season. Why go elsewhere when you are guaranteed a warm welcome from the wonderful hosts David and Hazel who are always there to help but never intrude into the peace of the holiday. Both gites have been tastefully restored, are full of rustic charm and character and are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. They are always clean and well prepared.
The pool area is a lovely suntrap, perfect for relaxing or just cooling off after a day out.
Although the hamlet is small, hence the peace, there are many local places of interest for a trip out by car.
If you want noise and nightlife stay away but if you want to relax, recharge your batteries in lovely surroundings then you will struggle to beat a break at "Pres du Puits". We would thoroughly recommend this holiday destination.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was well equipped, clean, comfortable, peaceful and private and it was a real treat having the pool so close to the house too.
David and Hazel were fantastic hosts and were extremely helpful in recommending local restaurants and activities.
I would recommend this rental home to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. A car is essential though.
From the moment I first spoke to David I knew that we were going to somewhere special. His conversation generated an impression of a person confident in his product and an obvious knowledge of his business. The gite itself is extremely well equipped with the most comfortable bed that we have experienced in many years of travel. Clean and tidy, providing peace and tranquility with as much privacy as you could wish for. David and Hazel are great hosts, always there for you if you need them and unobtrusively in the background if you don't. Lovely pool together with sunbeds etc helps to while away a pleasant afternoon. There is much to see in the Charente Maritime area which has many small pretty villages and much else to see. The maritime museum at Rochfort is a clear example of this. Perhaps for some a little isolated but a car mitigates that and the traffic is extremely light.
We have rated our stay as excellent and will have no hesitation in recommending both property and hosts in the future
the cottage is a lovely traditional spotlessly clean cottage set in a tranquile setting surrounded by countryside, In the evening there is no light pollution and you can see all the stars, and the silence is unbelievable. The owners are extremely friendly and can give you tips on were to go and were the best resturants are. There is a good sized swimming pool that is lovely to laze around or to swim in to cool off. Even though the area is surrounded by fields there is lots to see in a short drive. there is great little resturants dotted all around the surrounding villages. If you like to walk you only have to go out of the back gate and you are in tiny lanes surrounded by the countryside I thoroughly recommed this location if you want a relaxing holiday
