Roger's place was absolutely beautiful. We loved staying there and looking out at the view. It's only about 30-40 minutes away from Grand Canyon South Rim. We booked our GC trip a little too late to get a room at one of the hotel/lodges inside the park but honestly I think we'd prefer to stay at Rogers than the lodge. Very roomy and comfortable, and with the kitchen, we could have some freedom in what we wanted to eat, etc. (The food inside the park has a certain reputation for being very bad.) It was also really cool to experience an off-the-grid kind of living. The only thing that wasn't perfect was that the dishwasher was out of order, but it wasn't a big deal. If we're back to the GC, we'd definitely stay here again!
First I will give you the caveats. There is only data signal twice a day when the satellite is overhead in the early morning and bed time. No wi-fi etc on any other times of day. I personally felt this to be a good thing. I had phone and text capabilities but couldn't spend my vacation watching the world through my phone. The scenery here is stunning enough to make you forget that you can't post, snap, or tweet. Plus as an added bonus no "emergency" work emails :). If you have Sprint though, you won't have any signal whatsoever so keep that in mind. The power did go out once but it only required a switch flip to fix. Its a good idea to read the instructions before you go. Also get your groceries from Williams on the way in.
With all of the negative you may be wondering how I gave it 5 stars. Simply put, this was the most beautiful vacation spot I've been to. It has its own scenery but it is also one easy 20 minute drive to the Canyon. The view was stunning every day. The critters roaming about were fascinating. It was clean and well appointed. The owner responds swiftly to inquiries, and I felt safe. I can't really describe to you just how nice this place is, or how removed from city insanity, so I will post pics. If you need a mental health break or are trying to reconnect with your families/friends, this is the spot.
The cabin was more than we expected. Very well done - I would definitely recommend it. And the fact that it is solar powered makes it that much more fun and unique. Thanks!
Lovely place. Crystal clear skies give you a beautiful view of the stars. With the exception of the lack of a real bed in the 3rd room (it's a futon), three of us were comfortable. The electricity was no problem - we did not run out. The place was spotless and extremely quiet as it is very secluded.
Would have loved to have some accommodations like coffee and mini soaps/shampoos since the place is pretty far from any real grocery stores or coffee houses, but this is VRBO so we come prepared!
Would love to come back again when there is more time to chill out in the house.
I took my children for a month long cross country trip (NJ to CA and back again) and we stayed in a lot of nice places - and this was our FAVORITE! We got in late the first night and were greeted with the most amazing display of stars. Coming in late at night, I was a little nervous, but there was no need - the roads in were dirt roads but not really a problem for my mini van, and it was easy to get right into the house and settle in. I will note that my GPS said we arrived when we got to the neighbors place - we had to just go a little further down the road to find the right house. (Fault of my GPS, not the homeowner!)
We had one sunny day and then the rest of our stay was cloudy - so we needed the generator a little at the end, but there were directions that were easy to follow. We were very comfortable - Five people (including 2 college aged kids, another teen and a 9 year old) - there was enough space for everyone and everything we needed in the kitchen. We have food allergies so we used the kitchen a lot. We also used the washer and dryer, and watched Netflix and movies - there was a great selection of music and movies at the cabin. My 9 year old liked the swing set in back, and I loved that we were close to the Grand Canyon but not right in the built up area. For anyone with teenagers who are worried about being "off the grid" - we did have a signal on our phones and were able to set up a hotspot for wifi so tell them not to panic! :)
Everything was clean and up to date. Coffee on the deck in the morning was so peaceful. I'm already plotting a way to come back and stay here again. I wish there was a way to submit photos to my review because the place was so amazing.
