About The Owner

Our family cottage built in 1969 on 80 acres of beautiful wilderness. My father and mother were immigrants from England and Poland. We lived in Northville, MI and spent our summers in Cross Village. My father worked at FMC and came up every weekend. I fell in love with this area and in 1994 finally moved up here from Chicago to live year round. My husband and I were married at the little stone church in Cross Village!

The Owner purchased this chalet in 1969

Why The Owner chose Northern Michigan

Great place to bring your dog since we are situated on lovely 80 acres of meadow and forest, map of the property is provided, very quiet and private. We are only one mile from Lake Michigan, as kids we used to walk to the Village and down to the beach from the chalet.

Our new all tile bathroom and new tile shower is complete for 2017.

We provide lots of cotton towels and cotton bed sheets, also firewood and kindling free of charge.

charge.

What makes this chalet unique

The Cross Village Chalet is one of the only cottages in the area with Wi Fi.

This year (2016) we are remodeling the bath, with an all new tiled bathroom and tile shower. Will soon be adding an Eco bunkhouse with outdoor shower!

peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We come every year to "unplug" from the world. It is just perfect for me and my husband. Our dog actually loves it as much as we do. It is his one week of freedom! We take lots of walks and enjoy nature. The location is ideal as it is close to the tunnel of trees, the beach and you can easily to go Mackinaw Island or Harbor Springs for day-trips. Pond Mill Farms is worth the trip as well! The wi-fi was recently added so I am not as unplugged as I used to be, but that is up to me! The convenience of wi-fi is nice. The accommodations are very comfortable. There is no a/c, but not needed, the chalet stays pretty cool. We can't wait to go back.

Very cute, secluded chalet.

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 plus our dog very much enjoyed our stay. The chalet was quaint, clean, and the property is beautiful. It is a nice central location if you'd like to visit some surrounding towns and mackinac island.

Quaint, off the beaten path chalet

  • 5 of 5

Just returned home from spending 2 nights in Sylvia's charming chalet. My husband and I had done the mini (cooper) on the Mac (Mackinac bridge) rally and stayed 2 nights on Mackinac island. It was fun, but a zoo on the weekend. We couldn't wait to get to this secluded property and have some peace and quiet.

The chalet is a great space for 2, but easily sleeps 4 with the loft beds. The queen in the main bedroom was comfortable with nice bedding. The chalet is clean, has all the kitchen supplies needed for cooking. Towels, TP, and paper towels supplied. There is wifi, but our Verizon cell service was hit or miss. There is a flat screen tv for watching Netflix.

Utilized the outdoor space as the weather was perfect. My husband napped on the hammock and I enjoyed reading on the deck. We built camp fires both nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet with a glass of wine.

Had a nice lunch at Mill Pond Farm and loved traveling down M119 through the tunnel of trees. We got a pot pie at the Good Hart General store and was very tasty. We went to the Cross Village beach and practically had the shore line to ourselves.

Many thanks to Sylvia for sharing her cabin in the woods and hope to return for another stay.

You found your happy place

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is the kind of place you want to go back to - in your mind and in reality. Our family loved it. This is a perfect retreat and jumping off point for an Up North adventure (Harbor Springs, Mackinac Island, Petoskey). The cabin itself is as cozy and beautiful as it looks in the photos - even better than expected. And the setting in the woods with a gorgeous deck and side yard with firepit, picnic table, hammock clothesline is really ideal for spending time enjoying the natural surroundings. The wifi works great (not that you want to spend much time on your phone here) and the place stays plenty cool with the ceiling fan on and windows open, especially in the evenings. Sylvia has really thought of everything here. We only saw cars a couple of times on the gravel road nearby.

We loved Cross Village, especially Legs Inn. Do not miss the back patio and manicured garden area there overlooking the lake. A great spot to have a drink and watch the sunset.

The Cross Village general store here has most of the convenience items you need and more. We didn't feel like cooking the first night after traveling and tried the pizza - not bad! We did most shopping at a grocery store on the way up in Gaylord. That's very busy town with all the traffic heading Up North and back. Quite different from the quiet Cross Village.

The beach at Cross Village is convenient and quiet with a picnic area. We found we liked Sturgeon Bay Beach even better. Parked near the sand dunes and followed a trail towards the water. Very shallow, clear. calm water. Looks like they have nice hiking there in the park as well.

We also went to a weekend meteor shower viewing event at Headlands Dark Sky Park near Mackinac City. Show up well before sunset to get close parking. It was about a mile walk in from the overflow lot.

Many thanks to the owners for hosting us. We're dreaming of coming back sometime before long!

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 LOVED this quaint, private rental!! The owner has supplied this fabulously decorated chalet with all of the essentials - plush towels, soft, comfortable linens, quality soap, toilet paper, and firewood! We enjoyed campfires, movie nights, family dinners, relaxing on the spacious back deck, doing yoga in the beautiful side yard, and walking on the private grounds. This was a perfect, restful getaway from the busy city. The location is a 20 minute drive from Harbor Springs (S) and Mackinaw City (N). We hiked in Wilderness State Park (recommended), visited Harbor Springs, spent a day on Mackinac Island, and tootled around close to the chalet. Nearby, we enjoyed the famous Legs Inn restaurant, shopped at the Good Hart General Store (we recommend the delicious pot pies, fruit pies and devilled eggs), and we enjoyed the quaint ambience and wonderful espresso at Trillium Wood Antiques shop, along beautiful Route M-119 aka Tunnel of Trees. Thanks to the owner, Sylvia, for your thoughtfulness and especially for allowing your wonderful place to be enjoyed by renters. Incidentally, we found this place because the owner allows dogs, and while we did not bring our dog on our trip, we appreciated that dogs are welcome here. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you so much!!

Secluded, cozy, well maintained cottage with all the rustic features you would want!

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic find for my wife and I, our two boys and our dog. The wood burning stove gave the house a nice smell and kept it plenty warm. The fire pit was excellent. Both are stocked with plenty of wood (just bring some paper to get the fires started!).

The location is very secluded - we only heard one car pass the entire evening we sat by the fire. Cross Village is a SMALL town - two restaurants and a general store/gas station only - but both restaurants were amazing! The beach is only a 2-3 minute drive from the cottage, and there is a breathtaking view of the sunset from there.

There is no cell signal (at least for Verizon) at the cottage or even in Cross Village... but the cabin has wifi so we were able to keep in touch with people and look up what we wanted to do in the area. Mackinaw is only 30 minutes away.

Would definitely recommend this location!
