About this property

Eco Cabin in remote Caribbean Woodlands

The cottage is Caribbean style, its walls covered in wooden shingles, with shuttered windows and a large open deck. It is tucked away in a remote and wooded valley. It is a short walk from the car parking area to the cabin - a narrow path covered in bamboo leaves. There is a patio area with an outside table and a BBQ. The kitchen is open sided, birds flying through! There is everything you would need from espresso coffee maker to knife sharpener! The pots and pans hang on the wall.
The cabin is totally eco and is powered with solar energy, the sockets are 110v USA with a 1000 watt inverter. All the water is rain water. The shower is open. The bedroom is large with windows on 3 sides. The door on the 4th side leads Narnia like through the wardrobe to the kitchen and shower. From the netted four poster bed, you look through balcony and garden to the hills covered in lemon grass. There are comfy chairs and a hammock on the balcony, perfect for a lounge with a book (there is a selection) and a glass of two! The cottage has a garden and teak lounge chairs for you to watch the stars or sunbathe... Although we are in this quiet and hidden valley it is only a rather lovely short drive down Fig Tree Drive to the nearest beach at Carlisle Bay. Beyond Carlisle Bay are some of the best beaches in Antigua laid out before you along the West Coast, the side with the Caribbean sea.

Great experience in a lovely location.
What a fantastic place to stay, if you are wanting to get away from it all then Tranquil Farm lives up to its name. We spent a week in this lovely cabin surrounded by the sounds of the woodlands. The accommodation is really comfortable and beautifully furnished and has a really homely feel to it, the owners have really made an effort and we loved it.

A great novel
Words may just not be enough to convey our extraordinary experience at this beautifully and sustainably designed cabin nestled in the lush green hills of the island. Louise has built a wonderful homestead that truly escapes time and brings you to a place that feels like the setting of a great adventure novel with all supporting characters present, including a couple of friendly and playful dogs, chickens supplying your first mornings eggs, roosters waking you to enjoy breakfast with the birds and morning light on the porch, and the duck that occasionally laughs (at you?) in the distance. Louise also knows how to make her guests feel right at home, is available if needed, though leaves you to enjoy the surroundings completely at your own leisure. We were even welcomed with quality provisions in the fridge upon arrival. Such a well thought place must be accompanied by a thoughtful host after all! The location is a great launching point to explore the island, particularly the more remote and breathtaking southwest, the closest beach being a short drive through the rainforest down Fig Tree Drive at Carlisle Bay with water so clear that spear fishers are out on a calm day. On top of that, a beach outing is made that much more comfortable with amenities available as though you're at home. I could write a book about Louise's place, but I'm running up on the word limit and because you can actually go and experience it yourself, I highly recommend just that!

What an amazing experience…..
To start, Louise is a lovely host and makes you feel so welcome. The Eco Cabin is just what we expected, one with nature. You soon adjust to all of the forest noises that lull you to sleep. It’s so relaxing sitting on the terrace listening to the birds during the day and the crickets and frogs at night. Nature is all around you and you’re reminded of this constantly in the most amazing ways. This is a must to experience and we ll definitely be going back again. Thank you Louise.

Far From the Madding Crowd
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here even though we did not get the best of the weather. The occasional visit from Louise’s dogs or ducks was fun, and I didn’t mind sharing my toast with the local bullfinches

I am from England originally, but have been living in the Caribbean for 30+ years.
I run a Production Service Company which assists film makers and photograhers who come into the Caribbean Region. I live at Tranquil Farm with dogs, ducks and chickens! I love to garden, I love to read. I enjoy the quiet and peace of my surroundings.

Why they chose this property

There are not many places that are this peaceful - if one car passes down the road during the day, its unusual. The sound of the birds and the leaves in the trees are the most prominent sounds - along the odd squeaks of the bamboo groaning in the wind and sounding like an old sailing ship!
Actually I should add a bit about the local wildlife noises - the odd donkey and at night the crickets and tree frogs take over.

What makes this property unique

Tranquil Farm has always had this name, the farmhouse is about 100 years old now - and the name still fits it perfectly. The farm house and cottage sit on a small hill inside a bigger valley. The view down the valley is over the top of mango trees and across the valley at the surrounding hills covered in lemon grass.

I first saw the house when looking for a location for filming, it was love at first sight - a small wooden farm house hidden in a circle of trees. It was unique then, and even more so now. I have lived here now for 22 years, and I still love it. It is very rare now to find a place that is so quiet and where nature seems to seep through the doors, or rather fly through the window!
