About Gene and Nancy Matocha
Nancy Catmull Matocha went to school at the University of Texas in Austin and Columbia University in New York when she met Gene Matocha. We live, work and rear two children in North Texas. But we play in Colorado. :)
Gene and Nancy Matocha purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Gene and Nancy Matocha chose Rainbow Valley
A family cabin near Park City, Utah, inspired us to want to build our own. Plus, we were looking for a place that the whole family could enjoy. We found it in Divide. Completed in 2012, we add improvements to it each year.
What makes this Cabin unique
Besides its quiet comfort, our cabin is uniquely situated to enjoy so much of Colorado. There's something for everyone - from mountain biking, to hiking to touring - and a comfortable place to return to, cook a meal, play a board game, read a book or watch a movie. Perfect for families.

We loved being offline and together in the mountains. We had a slight hiccup upon our arrival. However, the owners were quick to take care of everything and went over and above our expectations. You definitely need a 4 wheel drive to handle the driveway or park at the top, so you can get out easily. The location and views are breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the deer from the deck and even saw our first bear on our way out of the development one morning.
This property is absolutely amazing. It feels really secluded, but it's still very close to amenities. It's essentially in the shadow of Pike's Peak. A quick walk up Oil Creek, just above the cabin, and you can see Pike's Peak towering overhead. The cabin was cozy, had amazing amenities, and was thoroughly a fantastic experience. It had board games, DVDs, and everything we could have needed. We saw a family of deer right outside the sliding doors two nights in a row.
The cabin's driveway is what everyone says, but I was able to get up and down it easily while it was dry. Also, if you have a habit of getting lost, you can wait to turn on Pike's Peak Rd and take that directly to Oil Creek; it's a little longer, but easier for some of us more directionally challenged folks, especially when GPS doesn't work. Don't expect that May means good weather! We had hail, rain, sunshine, and then finally a snowstorm right before we left. If you come in May, check the weather and have a plan for snow, especially if you don't drive a 4-wheel drive. That said, the weather added to the beautiful allure of the cabin, and proved to make it that much more cozy feeling.
In short, it was a beautiful experience, and I expect we'll be coming back again and again in future years (I had to essentially pry my fiance out with a crowbar in order to leave.)
Much needed 3 days Off the Grid!!
We have 2 teens, aged 13 and 15, and we all struggle with using our devices way too much. Our 3 days with no wifi was just what we needed! We reconnected as a family over the Harry Potter limited edition of Trivial Pursuit provided at the cabin, watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy (also provided) and just enjoyed being lazy on the south facing deck or in the meadow below. (Dad took a solo walk, just going up the driveway and turning left on Oil Creek and going to the end, only a tenth of a mile down the road, and actually had success picking up a stray wifi signal off and on; Didn't tell the kids...No way! This was the first time I had seen them bond so tightly in years!!) The owners were SO nice! The guests before us left their trash bags behind, and Gene and Nancy took care of it! We sure did appreciate them allowing our dog to come along! Most hotels would charge more than they did, and you would never have an Aspen meadow below for your doggie to run around in! Thank You, Nancy and Gene!
Breathtaking, Cozy, Warm
We are a family of 7 including 3 teenagers and 2 dogs and everyone had a wonderful time. The teens didn’t complain about not having cell service and took in the scenery. The dogs LOVED the outdoors and even enjoyed the snow. When the blizzard hit we had to stay in the cabin for a couple of days but all was well. We snow tubed, watched movies and played board games. The electricity stayed on the whole time so we stayed warm. It was a blessing. Everything was perfect and we can’t wait to come back.
Such a lovely cabin!
We really needed a quite getaway. This cabin was better than expected. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again
Our family of 4 stayed here and had an amazing time. So quiet and peaceful. House was great and plenty of areas to explore.
