About Neil Westerby

I am a 50 year old Professional who grew up in Calpe not too far away from the Villa. I moved to England in the late 90's but always wanted to return one day. When the chance came along, i managed to buy the house that hopefully i will retire to in a few years time

Neil Westerby purchased this villa in 2006

Why Neil Westerby chose Altea Area

Like i said, i grew up not too far away from where the villa is and I know the area very well. Its a quiet location with stunning views and in the evening in the summer it cools down a little earlier.

It was love at first site, as soon as i walked through the doors i knew it was going to be our family home. One day....

What makes this villa unique

The villa has Sky TV with both premium and and UK Freeview channels as well as ASTRA Satellite TV channels full of International programs in many languages including French/German/Russian/Polish etc. We have also added ADSL broadband and WIFI.

Private Swimming pool, BBQ and new ceramic hob in the kitchen

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very nice and relaxing stay at this property. Thanks for everything Neil

Brilliant, clean villa

  • 5 of 5

Neil the owner communicates brilliantly and quickly before and during your stay when needed. Jesus manages the villa and although his English is minimal it adds to the experience understanding about the villa. He's brilliant and comes every 3-4 days to clean the pool and water the garden etc.

The villa is much larger than appears on the picture and the separate rooms of the villa downstairs with its own entrance allows people staying to have extra space.

The pool is a perfect size for a family holiday and the BBQ is great and you'll use it a lot!!

The ONLY downside is the villa is a little tired in places for example sunliungers are torn in places, hob and rediator cracked. But the villa is classic Spanish and those small aspects do not impact your stay in any way. We used the hob once because the food in calpe is cheap and beautiful so if we ate at home it was fresh fish on the BBQ. The temperature even though at the end of September was baking so no way you'll use the radiator and the loungers are more than useable.

Calpe beach and town is quite a walk, not because of distance (approx 2 miles) but VERY hilly. At 33 and 40 and fit we sweated quite a bit. A car is very useful also because Benidorm and Altea are close by and worth a visit. A taxi into calpe isn't expensive cost us 12 euros at peak time and 4 passengers. There's space to park at the villa and the roads aren't that hard to get used to and therefore I would suggest you rent a car as just easier to get around and see such an amazing place.

Just a note - you can climb calpe's most famous rock, Penon de Ifach, although a hard climb due to slippery path surface, it has amazing views!!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your lovely review. You made me aware that the ceramic heater was cracked. Thanks it has now been replaced, also unfortunately our brand new ceramic hob has had a bottle dropped on one of the sides. I am aware of this and awaiting for the insurance to kick in. It is perfectly functional and hopefully will be replaced pretty soon

A lovely villa in sunny Calpe

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely family holiday in Neil's villa. The details we received before arrival were concise and it was easy to find. Neil even 'phoned to make sure we had all we needed beforehand. Jesus was there to see us in, and he was pretty invisible for the rest of the week, although he had obviously been to tend the garden and clean the pool!

The villa was as described and we were comfortable indoors and out. There is plenty of space for a larger family and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and appliances for eating-in! There was a sunny spot to be found outside on a terrace at any time of the day and the pool was clean and inviting. Good barbecue area as well. The views from the villa across the valley were spectacular.

There are plenty of amenities in nearby Calpe, and the beach is sandy and pretty. For serious climbers there are crags available within 400 yards of the house!

We would definitely recommend this Maryvilla villa!

Great Location & Stunning Views. The villa reviewed and some tips for a great stay in Calpe.

  • 4 of 5

Me and My family stayed at this villa for 7 days at the end of august 2017, our party was made up of 2 adults and 4 children (ages 10,9,6&6).

The access to the villa was up several flights of stairs, this wasn't a problem for us and it granted us access to the stunning views which are viewed from the pool area, balcony and dinning room. The view is of the mountain ranges at the rear of Calpe, and the sea can also be seen from the pool and balcony.

The kitchen facilities, were perhaps a little tired but all serviceable, and all the things you would need in a kitchen were provided. We made great use of the BBQ area, again everything you need was there and we had several great meals on the balcony area.

All of the bedrooms were spacious and had large wardrobes, and the beds were very comfortable.

Jesus - who is the property manager, seemed friendly enough, he doesn't speak a word of english. This kind of made the property hand over a bit pointless and a bit of a waste of time, but I suppose we were informed of everything even if we didn't understand what was being said to us, besides it was all kind of self explanatory.

If you are adventurous the trip up to the castella was great fun, but i wouldn't recomend it for anyone under the age of 10 as you have to pull yourself up near vertical cliff faces for the last 50 meters with the aid of ropes provided. The nature reserve that I think was call Mount Troux was easier going and offered better views than at the top of the Ifach.

Calpe - If you have never been there was a great seaside town, there was an 'old town' we found this had the best but most expensive food. The habour had the cheapest food and at was fairly good quality considering you were getting a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for €15. The beaches were all excellent, although we found the ones to the north of the Ifach (big rock) the best. There are loads of super markets, in the town, but we found that the Masymas that you pass on the main road coming from alicante, not only offered the best local produce at the lowest prices, but also had some things we couldn't get anywhere else such as Tea Bags, and black current squash.

Out seconditions stay at this beautiful villa

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful well kept and clean throughout, this is a lovely villa and has more than enough space to accommodate us (5) plus another 2 at least! The pool is a welcome bonus and some lighting would be helpful for night dips! As this is our second year we have seen for ourselves that improvements are made throughout the year including new air conditioning which is a must! Cu again next year!

Having stayed here last year the villa has had some great upgrades. A newly built traditional bbq was used lots and worked well. New windows, air conditioning and redecorated rooms in the lower floor are fantastic.

Excellent holiday !

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Maryvilla was amazing. The villa was large and well equipped. The pool area and patio were excellent and no issues even though we had a 2 year old with us for part of the time. The pool and gardens were well looked after every few days thanks to Jesus. The area of calpe is very picturesque with beautiful beaches and lots of shops and restaurants. We stayed for 4 weeks and could have stayed longer as we were so relaxed with our family in the villa
