About Butch Short
We have owned and operated an outdoor store "Far-North Outfitters" in Bonners Ferry for 24 years, through out those years we have had many inquiries, as to if there was a log cabin on the river for rent, since we knew of no actual log cabins, right on the river, we set out to find the perfect spot ( took 5 years ), and build one ( 2 more years )..... And now, is completed and ready to be relaxed in....
Butch Short purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Butch Short chose Sinclair
I chose this spot specifically because it's right in the middle of all the things we did with our 4 daughters growing up in the 80's.., floating the Moyie River, Hiking to Copper Creek Falls, swimming in the pools, picking huckleberries up Deer Ridge, fishing at Robinson and Sinclair Lakes, having dinners at Fiest Creek Resort, feeding the huge trout in the pond etc... Because of the beauty and uniqueness of Far-North Idaho , I wanted to share this with others as well as always having a place, no matter what crazy place they end up, that they can come back to , to reground , and to share with their children.

If you aren't from the area and not familiar with all that Northern Idaho has to offer, you're in for a treat. From fantastic views to unspoiled lakes, the area has everything to offer someone who's looking to get away from it all.
The cabin itself is more than you can ask for and every detail has been looked after. From the hot tub on chilly nights to the WiFi that allowed me to get some work done while on vacation, everything that we needed seemed right at our fingertips.
We ended up staying 13 days in all and fished either in Sinclair Lake (5 minute walk) or Robinson Lake (5 minute drive) just about every day. A 20-30 minute drive into Bonner's Ferry allowed us to get all the groceries we needed for the stay and to restock our fishing supplies.
When we weren't fishing, there is some fantastic hiking where we were able to see Snow Falls, Copper Falls, Kooentai Falls (Montana...worth the drive), Roman Nose Lakes, and Myrtle Falls. If you have the time I would definitely visit each. Sandpoint (about 30 minutes south of Bonner's Ferry) is also another wonderful place to visit if someone if interested in doing some shopping or eating out for evening. We didn't take the Lake Pend Oreille lake cruise but would if we had to do over again. It's a very beautiful place.
In addition to the cabin and sightseeing, Butch is a very gracious host who was very quick to answer our every question and gave us tips on how to enjoy the river using the kayaks available at the cabin.
This was our second time staying there coming all the way from Arkansas but we've never regretted driving the 50+ hours to get there and back. This cabin will forever hold a special place in our family's heart.
Perfect cabin & setting!
The owners have thought of everything! We already have plans to come back.
BEST Cabin Accommodations EVER!
Rustic ELEGANCE! Custom built cabin with all the modern conveniences we've all come to expect . . . but way more. Every attention to the littlest of details . . . EXCELLENT!
Furnishings were perfect! Location (right on the river) perfect. Fishing, perfect again (in addition to the river, lakes are just around the corner). Everything was provided . . . fishing equipment, kyaks, and more (check out the full list, you'll be amazed). Best of all, we called with a minor issue (we couldn't find a bobber to use for fishing) so someone from the owner's store drove 30 miles to deliver what we needed (turned out we looked in the wrong place . . . our fault, not the owner's). Customer service at it's best . . . Ritz Carlton wouldn't go to this much trouble!
Almost forgot . . . if you want music, Netflix, etc. it's included (we preferred reading with soft music in the background).
One of our most relaxing, stress-free and enjoyable vacations ever . . . and we only stayed for less than a week! We made a trip from California specifically to stay at the Little Moose cabin and it didn't disappoint. Highly Recommend!
Far north Idaho perfection!
Absolutely perfect. The cabin itself is a thing of beauty, warm, cozy, clean, private and serene. Extremely well appointed. The respect and true appreciation for the area is obvious in everything that is shared here. Butch’s balance of friendliness and professionalism with all things is pitch perfect. Such a wonderful area! After three days exploring the immediate vicinity, left feeling as only we’d just begun to scratch the service of getting to know it. Copper falls and the trails of Robinson lake were big highlights. Waking to the peace of the river running bye, A day adventuring, followed by the relaxation of the evening, a fire, the warmth of the cabin, the hot tub, what more could a person need? Thank you!!!
What a wonderful property! Such care and detail to ensure our stay was excellent. A great getaway from city life. The wild horse mercantile had great food and the owners were amazingly helpful.
Thank you Butch, We will be back!
This place is amazing! Everything it said it was an more!
The cabin is beautiful! Right on the river! The kitchen was fully stocked with tools, utensils, spices, oil, etc. We brought our own soup pot but they even had one of those! Also included in the stay was snowshoes, sleds, and even ice skates if we had wanted them! There was no one around for miles and it snowed for a day and a half, I was almost worried we were going to be snowed in, but it was the most beautiful scenery with the snow falling. My dog had more fun than I would have thought possible, constantly plowing through the snow and running circles around us as we attempted snow shoeing, which was super fun by the way! There was also access to internet tv and we were able to get caught up on the olympics we missed during our inside down time, which was pretty awesome. I learned to talk to "alexa" which was also kinda fun. I am dying to go back this summer so I can try out the kayaks and mountain bikes and see sinclair lake when it isn't covered in 2 feet of snow! This is the perfect place for a weekend getaway - I highly recommend it!
