About Butch Short
We have owned and operated an outdoor store "Far-North Outfitters" in Bonners Ferry for 24 years, through out those years we have had many inquiries, as to if there was a log cabin on the river for rent, since we knew of no actual log cabins, right on the river, we set out to find the perfect spot ( took 5 years ), and build one ( 2 more years )..... And now, is completed and ready to be relaxed in....
Butch Short purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Butch Short chose Bonners Ferry
I chose this spot specifically because it's right in the middle of all the things we did with our 4 daughters growing up in the 80's.., floating the Moyie River, Hiking to Copper Creek Falls, swimming in the pools, picking huckleberries up Deer Ridge, fishing at Robinson and Sinclair Lakes, having dinners at Fiest Creek Resort, feeding the huge trout in the pond etc... Because of the beauty and uniqueness of Far-North Idaho , I wanted to share this with others as well as always having a place, no matter what crazy place they end up, that they can come back to , to reground , and to share with their children.

The best cabin we have stayed in, not even close.
The perfect couples cabin. The area is secluded and exactly as advertised, just perfect.
Exactly as pictured and described!
Butch was a phenomenal host! The cabin is beautiful, exactly as described, and very clean! This was our first visit to Idaho and we were looking forward to peace and solitude. Couldn’t ask more for the accommodations! Howerwver, not being from the area, we were a bit surprised by the low water level of the river. So low we did not use the kayaks or float tubes. However, Butch does provide all the means of using those toys elsewhere. We managed to find many adventures to keep us busy. Also, we did not expect to see neighbors across the river. One cabin was not occupied, but the other appeared to have full-time residents. You will see and hear them, along with their dog. Overall, I would (and we have) recommended this get away. Hope to make it back again in the future! Thanks again,Butch! P.S. I’m typically not a wine drinker, but the bottle you provided as a gift was wonderful!
Fantastic Get away
There were three of us (all adults) at Little Moose and we had a fantastic time. We were there for two weeks and we hated to leave. Butch thought of everything. When we arrived we had a bottle of wine and soft music playing in the back ground. We saw moose, grouse, and abundance of deer, turkey all near the home. It was so peaceful sitting either by the river or the fire pit in the evenings. The fresh coffee was great in the mornings. We have stayed at many properties and this was the best yet as far as meeting our expectations and what we wanted. Cannot wait to go back. Thank you Butch for sharing your home with us. Bonners Ferry is 27 miles away and they have two nice sized grocery stores for supplies so you don't have to take things from home so much. The Canadian border is within 15 minutes if your wish to go into Canada during your stay.
Best of Many VRBO Accommodations!
This awesome cabin with all its features and toys was by a long shot, the best we've stayed at, and there have been many for us! The new cabin is gorgeous and well- appointed. There are so many things that Butch has put into this entire accommodation, from the programmed GPS he gives you (with all the lakes, rivers, places to visit, sites, attractions and most places you would want to go in this area...just punch it in or look it up on the list and just go!) to the water toys and bikes as well as the 4x4 with trailer and the beautiful cabin with all it's modern features. Beds are super comfy, wifi is great, tv's and entertainment included on it, all kitchen items you would need, fishing gear etc. The place was so very peaceful and easy to get from place to place. We never saw anyone except one distant neighbour for one day of the week we were there, Aug 2-9, 2018. This is one we will never forget! Well done Butch!! REALLY!!
It’s amazing! Words cannot even describe it.
It is a beautiful cabin and property! This is my third summer of getting away to come here and I am already booked for next year! I brought a couple of friends with me and they are already planning their next trios here as well. Thank you Butch for creating this beautiful place:)
If you aren't from the area and not familiar with all that Northern Idaho has to offer, you're in for a treat. From fantastic views to unspoiled lakes, the area has everything to offer someone who's looking to get away from it all.
The cabin itself is more than you can ask for and every detail has been looked after. From the hot tub on chilly nights to the WiFi that allowed me to get some work done while on vacation, everything that we needed seemed right at our fingertips.
We ended up staying 13 days in all and fished either in Sinclair Lake (5 minute walk) or Robinson Lake (5 minute drive) just about every day. A 20-30 minute drive into Bonner's Ferry allowed us to get all the groceries we needed for the stay and to restock our fishing supplies.
When we weren't fishing, there is some fantastic hiking where we were able to see Snow Falls, Copper Falls, Kooentai Falls (Montana...worth the drive), Roman Nose Lakes, and Myrtle Falls. If you have the time I would definitely visit each. Sandpoint (about 30 minutes south of Bonner's Ferry) is also another wonderful place to visit if someone if interested in doing some shopping or eating out for evening. We didn't take the Lake Pend Oreille lake cruise but would if we had to do over again. It's a very beautiful place.
In addition to the cabin and sightseeing, Butch is a very gracious host who was very quick to answer our every question and gave us tips on how to enjoy the river using the kayaks available at the cabin.
This was our second time staying there coming all the way from Arkansas but we've never regretted driving the 50+ hours to get there and back. This cabin will forever hold a special place in our family's heart.
