Overview

About the property

3 Bed fully furnished house. Free unlimited WiFi. Long Stay discounts.

Free Unlimited Internet. A charming enticing cottage, built in 1864, Marsh House is the second oldest residence in Armidale. It has been brought into this century with extensive renovation so that the kitchen and bathroom boast all modern amenities.(dishwasher, full sized fridge with freezer, microwave, front loader washing machine and dryer).Accomodation is comprised of three bedrooms. The first has a comfortable queen sized bed.The second has a double bed.The third has a 3/4 bed and a single. This versatile configuration enables holidaymakers, families and those coming to Armidale in work groups to find the perfect accomodation.Located midway between Sydney and Brisbane, Armidale is a logical geographical stopover. Linen and towels are included in the tariff.

As the house retains it's original shingle roof and first ceiling beneath a corrugated newer roof and ceiling, the insulative qualities of Marsh House are superlative. In the winter it is heated by electric heaters in the bathroom and third bedroom and a slow combustion wood heater in the sitting room. This is easy to ignite and keeps the house extremely cosy ,especially as the old house has thick walls and retains the heat well.Wood is supplied .

In summer these same attributes keep the house very cool.Iron security doors ensure the house is locked at night but facilitate cooling down the building again .It can then be closed up in the morning and stays cool.

The exterior of Marsh House includes a medium back yard and garage .Several cars can be parked off street. The house is located on the central southern hill of Armidale, at the quiet(non highway) end of Marsh St. Knights Corner Store is a convenient 2 min walk away but Coles and downtown amenities are only 5 mins down the hill. The University of New England would be an 8-10 min drive away or buses leave from the CBD outside the Post Office to go there.

Charming period property.

  • 4 of 5

Our first impression of Marsh House was that it was unexpected. It looked dark, cold and old - quite different to the properties we have stayed in earlier. However the property’s charm revealed itself once the lights turned bright and we got the fire going. It is unexpected, but beautiful, with thoughtful touches and period inclusions/decor.

It took some time for our son to find the TV (small one, tucked away inside the living room cupboard :). The living and dining areas are small but pleasant. The oven and gas cooking are a bonus. Electric heating in the beds made for a comfortable sleep. 1 bedroom has a panel heater as well, we did not use that room though. This room is a bit away from the rest and would be great if one needed privacy.

The bathroom/laundry area has a large electric heater which makes it warm and comfortable. There is a heater in the bathroom as well.

The house has all the appliances and conveniences. Jane was very accommodating with regards to our request for a slightly late checkout. Thanks Jane !

The house is conveniently located close to the shops. Overall it was a good stay for us in a beautiful house.

Owner's Response: So wonderful that you discovered the manifest charms of Marsh House as so many have before you.We almost always manage to have the fire blazing to welcome people on arrival in winter but as you arrived on the Saturday of a Long Weekend everyone was deployed with their own family gatherings. We did have it set ready to just add a match and as you mention it heats very quickly. With the sunny northern verandah, and all the modern conveniences combined with historic charm and quaint French doors, people always love the house.

a truly beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, we were thrilled that we had managed to find such a place! What a blessing and what a privilege! It was comfortable, homely, beautifully decorated to suit and emphasize the age and history of the cottage. Amenities were perfect! Position perfect! Hope we can return some day soon :)

Many thanks, Hugh and Janey xx

Cosy Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We felt quite at home in this lovely cottage. A lovely place to relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day and then a short walk to town where we enjoyed delicious meals.
