Dates are going fast for fall...plan your getaway now. Come enjoy fall colors, gallery strolls, shopping, restaurants, the charming harbor...all within walking distance of the Red House.

This comfortable, historic vacation rental home is ideally located 'on the hill,' just three blocks from downtown Saugatuck, and offers 4 bedrooms (three queen bed rooms and a full+twin bunk bed) and 2 full baths (one upstairs, one down) for a reasonable nightly rate (cleaning included!). The Red House is one of the best values in Saugatuck and the ideal home base for family vacations, girls weekends, and couples getaways. The sunny kitchen features new appliances and everything you need for cooking and dining. From the comfortable, cozy living room to the open dining room, the Red House provides all the amenities you need for the whole family or a group of friends. Sleeping for 8 (that's our max number of guests).

The house sits on a lot-and-a-half on the corner. Outdoor spaces include a charming patio, kids' playset, and new deck in a private part of the front yard. A charcoal grill is available.

As a dedicated seasonal rental home since 2006, you can be assured the house is fully stocked with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Linens (sheets, blankets, bath towels) are provided along with 'extras' like dishwasher and laundry detergent and hand soaps, to make packing easier for you. Professional cleaning before each stay is included. The owners live a few blocks away, and are available if you need anything. The Red House is a proud recipient of the Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society Heritage Preservation Award, and is safety-certified by the local fire department and City of Saugatuck.

Please note that the Red House was built in the 1870s (and completely renovated in the early 2000s). It's unfussy, clean, full of character...and old. So try as we might, we can't guarantee you won't encounter the occasional spider or ant during June, or a bit of a draft in November.

UPSTAIRS--Bedroom #1-queen bed + full bath; Bedroom #2-bunk bed with full mattress on bottom, twin (single) mattress on top.

DOWNSTAIRS: Bedroom #3-queen bed; Bedroom #4-queen bed; downstairs full bath. There are no other sleeping areas in the house.

Keywords: Saugatuck vacation rental home, 4 bedroom, 2 full baths, walk to town, quiet neighborhood, large yard, near downtown, near beach. Walk to downtown Saugatuck's unique shopping, great dining and entertainment. A quick 5-minute drive gets you to the spectacular dunes and Oval Beach, voted one of the best in the country for its white sand and beautiful views. Downtown Saugatuck features great shopping in unique stores and art galleries, plus restaurants and bars, parks, entertainment, waterfront, and more. Come discover why USA Today named Saugatuck the #1 weekend destination in the country!

About Kate, kate@redhouserental.com

Hi, we're Andrew & Kate.

We moved to Saugatuck in 1991, fell in love with the town, and have lived here full-time ever since. We bought the Red House in 1992 and lived there until 2006, spending the first five years on major renovations. When we moved (a few blocks away) in 2006 we couldn't give up the house, so now it's a vacation rental! We have one son, who attends the local high school.

Kate, kate@redhouserental.com purchased this house in 1992

Why Kate, kate@redhouserental.com chose Saugatuck

We've lived in Saugatuck full-time since 1991. We love the people here, the charming downtown, great shops and restaurants, and the breathtaking coastline. We enjoy boating, Oval Beach, music in the park, art galleries, special events, and just taking in everything Saugatuck has to offer. We often go a whole weekend without getting in a car, since we can walk or bike wherever we want to go. Saugatuck can be what you want it to be: relaxing, friendly, laid-back; a party town; a mecca for the arts; a nature-lover's paradise; and family-friendly.

What makes this house unique

Renters tell us they love the convenient location (walk to town, but quiet) and the casual, comfortable feel of the house. A first-floor queen bed and full bath is ideal for folks who have trouble with stairs. Kids love the play area. (The house sits on an oversized lot back from the street, making it safer for little ones.) Pet owners appreciate being able to bring their dogs (with permission).

Comfortable house in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The Red House was exactly as pictured- great character with modern amenities. We loved the quiet location that was an easy couple blocks to shops and restaurants. The house was perfect for our group of 3 adults and 2 small children. We loved the play structure in the yard and used the nice selection of children's books and dvds. The kitchen had everything we needed and it was convenient to have the dishwasher. The bed linens, towels, and household products were of good quality. The owners responded quickly by text when we had questions and were easy to communicate with. Also, their "welcome book" was very helpful for area recommendations and instructions for checkout. The construction next door didn't impact our stay as we were there over the weekend, but the owners were courteous to let us know about it ahead of our stay. It was a wonderful weekend in Saugatuck and we hope to return.

Excellent place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The red house was a great place to stay while in Saugatuk. The location was so nice to be able to walk to town. The neighborhood is beautiful just to walk in and get some gardening ideas, if your a gardner. Kate was so attentive when one of the toilets broke , her husband was over in a jiffy to fix it. This is a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it!

Clean, cozy, comfortable and charming!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the charm of the house along with the very open feel. All of our cooks enjoyed the kitchen and the dining area served beautifully for family meals and competitive board games! Very picturesque neighborhood and a short walk to downtown.
