About Martha Buracker

We own Buracker Construction LLC a Custom Home Builder in the Shenandoah Valley and decided to make this home a vacation rental. We thought offering this home as a vacation rental is a great way to share our favorite place.

Martha Buracker purchased this house in 2006

Why Martha Buracker chose Bentonville

We live and work in this area and think it's the best place to be. I grew up in the Washington area and moved here as a teenager. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

What makes this house unique

The wrap around porch with Cracker Barrel rockers, lends itself to relaxing times with friends. Get out of the rat race and unwind. The house is far enough away from Luray and Front Royal to make you feel your are getting away, yet close enough to all the fun things this area has to offer.

There is a picnic table and a glass topped dining table in the screened porch area. Just on the other side of the screened porch is the patio with Stone BBQ/Outdoor Fireplace. A great place to relax and enjoy the fire, or for the kids to roast the marshmallows. The kitchen is fully equipped with a Gas Cooktop in the island. There is a Wall Oven/Microwave Combo, a dishwasher and a Trio Refrigerator with icemaker. The dining area has 6 regular chairs, but we've got a couple folding chairs in the Master Closet. Plus their are barstools for eating at the island.

No better porch for viewing fall colors

  • 5 of 5

There are many great things to stay about this property. My wife and I spent several days here to watch the trees change colors. There is no better place to do so than from the ultra-wide, covered wrap-around porch. Just sitting out in the rocking chairs on the porch was incredibly relaxing. It was the ideal place to sit back and take in the beauty of the area and the emerging fall colors. The interior was very spacious and very well designed. Although it was just the two us, multiple others could have stayed in the spacious rooms. There are many parts of this home that help make it stand out, from the porch, to the fire place, to the soaring cathedral ceilings in the living room and master bedroom (along with floor to ceiling stone fireplaces), to the carved bear heads in the trim between the living room and dining room, to the outdoor scene mural on the second floor. The master bath was incredible. It is a short drive to Front Royal or down to Luray, so there are plenty of opportunities for places to eat and things to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and look forward to returning again in the future.

Beautiful spacious house with a great view

  • 5 of 5

The house was great in almost every respect--big bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The fireplace in the master was great and the great room + kitchen is a good setup. Outdoor fire set-up was nice too. Land itself is a little slanted so not great for yard activities, but the view and wrap-around porch more than makes up for it.

Charming, Updated Lodge in Rural VA

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great time at the property for a long weekend. We were at near-max capacity and there was still plenty of room for everybody to sleep and relax. The property is great and there is a lot of yard for playing and for the dog to run around. Lots of activities too, like corn hole and ping pong, make it easy to have fun at the house without having to leave.

The kitchen is well-appointed but do not count on any staples being there when you arrive. We found salt, pepper and coffee filters, but that was about it as far as goods go. Just make sure you plan ahead and bring cooking oil, paper products, etc. All kitchen appliances work great.

Sleeping arrangements were nice (look in the closets for extra blankets, etc.) No complaints from the beds from anybody in the group. One caveat is that the bedrooms aren't very sound proof--we could hear people moving around from the master suite.

Overall we had a great time. Some downsides to consider but ultimately don't affect my rating: 1). the wifi is serviceable, but don't expect to stream movies or connect to an outside server; 2). the TV is pretty old and could use some love--the picture is a little grayed out.

Can't wait to come back!

An epic Shenandoah adventure!

  • 5 of 5

Several buddies and I decided we needed to plan a group adventure away from the city (Baltimore/DC) and we luckily found the "Absolute Perfect Retreat" in Shenandoah. From our first impression driving in late on Thursday night with the house lit up on the hill to each morning waking up with a cup'o Joe & nature outside it..was..SPLENDID!

Our hikes and adventures in the valley were great all on their own, but having this house as a home base was both a foundation and icing on the cake. It's spacious, perfectly situated in the northern portion of Luray Valley a short drive from the river, and has all the amenities you could wish for. The wrap-around porch is probably the best I've ever seen. We played cornhole out there, relaxed in hammocks, and enjoyed meals with ample room to spare. The kitchen was a vacation chef's dream to cook in due to it's size, the island with a great gas range, and plenty of counter space. The rooms were comfy and definitely larger than I expected. Our group of 9 was very comfortable and we felt like we could've brought twice the number of people (though realistically with beds that would've been a stretch). Although we didn't get around to using the fireplace outside it & s'mores are definitely on the to-do list next time we travel here.

The one item that was a bit odd was the sulfur smelling water. Martha mentioned the system must've been down, however our group was all from DC & Baltimore so after getting used to the slight smell it didn't detract from the amazing experience.

Martha was also extremely helpful and accommodating. She gave us GREAT advice on local trails and a swimming hole we must've hit at least 3 times at the end of a long day. And she remained flexible during last minute changes to the size of our group.

Thanks very much for the stay and we hope to make it out there again!

Owner's Response: Thanks Alex! I'm glad you guys had a great time. And thanks for the heads up on the water. We did get it serviced and found out that the chlorinator had a jamb, so everything should be good. You guys are welcome back any time!

Spacious, private, and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin. The rooms were all very large. Each bedroom has a private full bath; the master bathroom has a giant shower with multiple showerheads. All the fixtures and appliances were new. The loft area was huge with 2 twin beds, a sofa, and tons of space. My sons chose to sleep there rather than in one of the bedrooms because of the view of grazing cows. Unfinished basement has a ping-pong table. We loved this place and highly recommend it.

Warm and inviting

  • 5 of 5

For us the Lodge is like a home away from home, yet still a wonderful vacation. It has everything one could want in a vacation home, spacious, nicely furnished rooms; plenty of indoor and outdoor space for parties; gourmet kitchen; and the most inviting porch with rocking chairs for reading or just enjoying the views. The owners are very accommodating, going out of their way to make sure we are comfortable and know what local activities are available. This is definitely the place for many future vacations for us.

Enjoy the scenic Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah National Park while staying at our house. There is lots to do in the area, such as tubing or canoeing on the Shenandoah River. If you like to hike, there are some great paths nearby that go into the Shenandoah National Park. There are 6 golf courses within a 1/2 hour. A great area to go antiquing, country auctions, dining in Front Royal or Luray, civil war battlefield sites and reenactments, or horseback riding. Also in the area are Skyline Caverns and Luray Caverns. Two ski resorts within 1 hour. (Bryce and Massanutten Resort). At Shenandoah River State Park there is hiking, canoeing, zip lines (Virginia Canopy Tours) Finally, just a couple miles from the house is a great Winery (Glen Manor Vineyards) and many more wineries within about 1/2 hour. You can easily fill a week by sightseeing and don't forget to tour the scenic back roads. At the end of each day, kick back in the rocking chairs on the porch and enjoy the sunset mountain views and wildlife!
