About the property

“Living The Dream!” - ‘Buckhorn Cabin’ is the log cabin of our dreams! It has everything anyone could want in a true Smoky Mountains, log cabin experience with all conveniences. After looking at dozens of 2 bedroom, log homes in Maggie Valley we chose “Buckhorn Cabin” because it is absolutely the most beautiful, convenient, easy access, yet private log cabin we’ve seen anywhere in the valley. What’s even better it is within walking distance of our other ‘Treehouse’ cabin ( VRBO #618254 ) which is on the same street! This means, between the two cabins, we could accommodate up to 14 people for larger gatherings.

Our ‘Buckhorn Cabin’ offers a spectacular year round mountain view. The cabin is very private, situated on almost 2 acres, yet located in the heart of Maggie Valley and convenient to absolutely everything. Enjoy morning coffee on the covered deck while sitting on Cracker Barrel rockers and watch as the mist rises over the valley and clouds float by across the mountains. In the evening, watch the sunset swinging on the porch swing or soaking in the 6 person jacuzzi hot tub. Grill a family size meal on the large outdoor BBQ located next to 2 picnic tables. And later, enjoy a campfire under the stars, while listening to the locusts, as you gaze down at the lights of Maggie Valley.

Indoors enjoy all modern conveniences including central A/C, internet, WiFi, phone plus cable TV / DVR and VCR with DVD player in the living room and bedrooms. The huge kitchen, with butcher block island, features everything any chef might want including refrigerator with icemaker, full size oven, 2 microwaves, dishwasher plus coffee maker, grinder, blender, toaster, crock pot, and electric grill. It is stocked with local roast coffee, spices and condiments, paper products and features all the dishes and cooking utensils you need to prepare a family size gourmet feast. Before tuning in for the night, you can relax in the living room in front of the convenient gas log fireplace as you look around at the interesting collectibles displayed around the cabin.

The cabin sleeps 4-6 people featuring 2 large bedrooms with queen size beds and a queen size sofa bed in the living room for extra guests. Both bedrooms have cable TV and phone. Enjoy a mountain view from the master bedroom with direct access to the deck via glass doors. It has a walk-in closet, and master bath with 2 sinks and walk-in shower. The roomy second bedroom has a bath featuring 1 sink plus bath tub, shower and large closet. All bed linens are provided with extra pillows, blankets and quilted bed covers. And if you need to wash clothes, there’s even a washer & dryer with detergent and dryer sheets included.

We are dog lovers and wouldn’t go anywhere without our Honey Bear! So, pets are welcome as long as they are friendly, well behaved, never left alone indoors, and always on leash when outdoors. There is plenty of space to walk your dog outside the house, up and down the long driveway or anywhere around the neighborhood.

The huge, flat parking area can accommodate up to 4 cars, and offers one of the best parking situations we’ve seen anywhere in Maggie Valley. Access to the cabin is also pretty easy. We are located about halfway up the mountain and, although there are two very short steeper inclines, the main roads are paved, state maintained, and easy for anyone to navigate in any type of car ( 4 wheel drive is not needed, and it is not scary :). That said, we do not recommend trailers or motorcycles and the only time we caution our guests is if it snows and gets slippery in winter we tell them to wait a day or so until the ice melts. We like to remind people that, although access to our property is quite easy, remember that you are in the mountains and even experienced drivers should always be very cautious about driving anywhere in the mountains when the roads are slippery.

At 3500 ft. elevation, we're located in the heart of beautiful Maggie Valley. Minutes from everything... Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cataloochee Ski Area, downtown Waynesville, shopping, restaurants and about 30 minutes to Asheville, the Biltmore, Harrah's Casino and much more... like mountain streams, Lake Junaluska, great waterfalls and 19 of the highest peaks east of the Mississippi.

So, if you’re looking for a true Smoky Mountain log cabin that has it all, you’ve found it! We invite you to share our ‘Living The Dream’ experience by booking our ‘Buckhorn Cabin’ vacation home for your mountain getaway.

Why Gary Walker chose World

We chose to purchase our 'Buckhorn Cabin' because we wanted a log home in a beautiful location, with year round mountain views that would be a great creative getaway. We think the Smoky Mountains, and particularly Maggie Valley, offer some of the most beautiful scenery and most pleasant places to visit in the entire country. The climate is great, not too hot, not too cold, the people are friendly and there are so many things to enjoy from scenic mountain drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway, to hiking the Smoky Mountains, to fishing, waterfalls and of course photography and painting. Since we are not there full time we decided to share it with others who want a peaceful getaway in the mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

The front deck features a hot tub, southern style rockers, porch swing and spectacular year round mountain views. The cabin sleeps 4-6 people, there are 2 bedrooms with sofa bed, 2 baths, completely equipped kitchen, fireplace, laundry and game room. We're perfectly located, in the heart of Maggie Valley in of its original mountain neighborhoods... close to restaurants, bars, tourist attractions, shopping, golf, Lake Junaluska and much more.

Between you and me and all the little critters

  • 5 of 5

Let's keep this place our little secret. Set your car's climbing gear into 1 and pull carefully up into spacious parking pad, unpack your stuff, nestle in the hot tub and you won't want to leave -- not even to pick up the groceries. This modern-rustic, shady perch on the mountain offers the illusion of seclusion; in truth, it's convenient to all the Western NC amenities: Picnicking in the Smokies up at Heintooga is only 30 minutes away; breakfast at Joey's up the road only 5; grocery shopping at Ingles only about 10 and fine dining in Waynesville another 5. But back at Buckhorn is where it's at: all the comforts of home, sweet home, plus mountain bliss and a view of the valley with a passing hummingbird in the foreground. Sleeping quarters are spacious and clean. As our son, then 12, sighed upon approach of our second of three visits here: "Buckhorn, Sweet Buckhorn." Just between us, okay?

GREAT - ABOVE EXPECTATIONS!

We had a wonderful time. The cabin was great, the view of the mountains was great, more than we expected. Gary was great and made suggestions on where to go and what to see and we did it all. Thank you for a wonderful week.

Felt like we were at home!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough good things about our stay here. It has everything you need plus more! (Seriously...all you need is food, clothes and yourself) The cabin has an amazing view and a ton of privacy but is still close enough to grocery stores and other towns. I would highly recommend staying here and cant wait to stay here again in the future.

Amazing views, great accommodations and a very helpful owner!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 3 kids (12, 2.5 and 1.5), dog and myself had such an amazing time at Buckhorn Cabin! There was ample space for us and we never felt cramped. The deck has a view that we could stare at for hours, but with the easy access to many amazing hiking spots we were on the go a lot during the day. Waterrock Knob is only 30 minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway and provided a strenuous but short hike, about 1.5 miles, to incredible views. We also checked out Craggy Gardens but we were a little early in the year to witness the Rhododendrons in bloom which would be magnificent to see as about half of the trail is lined with them. Last, we headed into the Pisgah National Forest to Max Patch. You have to drive up a 15 mile gravel road to get to the parking area but this is a MUST SEE!! Gorgeous 360 degree views into Tennessee and WNC.

The proximity of Buckhorn Cabin to all of these places makes it optimal. Can’t wait to come back and explore the area more!!
