About this property

Alices Cottage - Three Bedroom House, Sleeps 6

Looking for a countryside cottage escape? Check out Alice’s Cottage - a fabulous sandstone property in an amazing location overlooking the beautiful Weardale Way.
This country retreat is one of two holiday homes on a working farm which dates back some 200 years. Think warm, comfortable interiors, spacious living accommodation with electric log effect stove, and TV with satellite channels, well equipped kitchen with dining table and chairs. The three bedrooms are all nicely furnished with wooden beds, wardrobes and chests of drawers. Outside the delightful sheltered courtyard garden is a lovely spot to relax with a coffee or perhaps fire up the barbecue.
Low Cornriggs Farm and surrounding area is registered with English Nature as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the wildflower meadows in bloom from the end of May to the beginning of July - a mass of unusual fauna and flora. Rare rare birds are frequent visitors, look out for yellow wagtails, curlews and lapwings.
This is a great base for walking and cycling, with many footpaths easily accessible and the National Cycle Network routes criss crossing the region. Former mines have been replaced by museums - this used to be a very productive lead mining area and it’s well worth visiting The North of England Lead Mining Museum at Killhope. Another go to destination is the spectacular waterfall of High Force where the River Tees plunges straight down 70 feet, this is the highest single drop waterfall in England and Beamish and Hadrian's Wall are all a short drive. The property is close to Allenheads and the Coast to Coast Cycle route. Walking, cycling, fishing all available locally.
